The 1998 version was bad Godzilla didn't have his iconic radiation beam and Godzilla died to 3 F18s when in the Japan version he was unstoppable I kinda liked the 1998 version but for its effects and "at least you tried" effort and I'm glad they reboot it and from what I see Godzilla is HUGE and they did do a sequel to this it was just an animated television series which brought some justice to the 1998 version sorry If this offends you just my take
