ya I hope to get a build video done soon. Well a good one that is, I've made two build videos in the last couple of months but never released them because the flight controller I picked had issues so I didn't want to put out videos of me using a flight controller that I would not recommend. Two Iflight sussex- D F7 twinG V2.1 flight controllers in a row had the worst gyro noise I have seen in 6 years of FPV. Funny they insisted it was my fault for bad tuning, then 2 months later the gyro type in the flight controller has been changed.
I hope your vibration analysis is going well. I was super excited to hear you & Chris Rosser are in contact. I'm not super keen on any current 7" frames, definitely looking forward to what you're working on.
What a beautiful part of the world. My heart is beating pretty quick jist watching so can only imagine what yours was doing at the snowy peaks 5km away.
That was SERIOUSLY impressive! And I cannot believe how stable your video was. Must have a lot to do with flying in the absolute middle of nowhere? Maybe I just need to update my gear, lol
fantastic stuff, that was smoother than my reelsteady vids hehe. chris rossers vids are interesting, i'm especially intrigued by the damping grease, i've often thought this carbon is as smooth as glass and tightly screwing it together must be bad for vibration and mechanical energy in general. i've just spent 3 days wrestling with nano diversity... i use the nirvana and it was just endless fail, in fact i may have cooked a caddx vista trying to get the nano to bind, had to give up and use the normal nano.
Hey there Valley, I've been watching a few of your videos lately. I'm finding the trick with line of sight is to always know exactly what direction to go if I lose video. Like in this one I started losing video a bit before the rock and rool song comes on and I knew a head of time that getting video back would mean tilting left and hard on the throttle. Also with the cinematic style low rates I'm using I'm finding it way easier to control the quad through a few seconds of blindness or poor video without over correcting. Ya it helps that I've memorized this entire valley of mountains as well. I get far more nervous pre-flight when I fly a new location.
@@FalconRadFPV Thanks for the tips. I am pretty much going down the same learning path you have done although about a year behind you. So much to learn.. I had my first fail safe a couple weeks ago and nearly had a heart attack.
The more I learn about this FPV hobby, the more I realize that what you've done with your new build is pretty excellent the way you dialed in the mechanics of the frame and hardware, reducing vibrations plus fine tuning the filters and PIDs. If you can get the video looking this vibration free natively imagine how nice it can be sweetened in post. Like they say "make it beautiful in camera and amazing in post".
3km is pretty good for a 4" setup, nice work. 3km is the furthest I've pushed my 4" also. I know the batytery can go further but I don't trust the rssi going so low, I might try a vertical crossfire antenna on it.
@@FalconRadFPV Yeah, I only used a lipo 4s 850mah.. that is why I was hesitant to go further. Yesterday I tested with a full sized gopro. It can fly 7minutes on 4s 850mah.
Simply awesome. My heart was pounding when i saw land now and voltage less than 3.0V. I was wondering how do you set up gps rescue- in case you trigger it while diving will your quad go up to the highest altitude during the flight and then decend? I will appreciate any suggestions regarding gps rescue settings. Thanks 😊
i would suggest dumping the gopro and going for something like a loris which can do 2.7k and also 4k. that will save a ton of weight and bring your amp draw down.
The video quality is much better with the gopro. I have a SMO 4K camera for a light weight option but it also doesn't look anywhere near as good as my gopro so I don't even use it.
Old video, but I recently found your videos, and I'm loving it. You're doing exactly what I want to do, but you go even further that I had no idea you could do from miles away. I had no idea that you could get below the canopy and right down to the forest floor. Just curious, but have you found any caves? I love exploring and you can get into places with a drone where people can't without a helicopter.
Wish I had locations like this to fly in New Zealand! Going to try get some mountain footage when I travel to the south island, but a lot of places are no fly zones.
Good luck on your trip! Ya same thing here in Canada. All the best mountains are in provincial or national parks and of course no flying in parks of any kind here. So finding mountains like this that are not part of a park can be hard. Over 90% of the time I see something really cool on google maps satellite view it ends up being in a provincial park.

wow! first off nice flight, i cant get over the fact that over all that distance i was thinking your link quality was not working cuz it was always at 99, then i seen it drop to like 98 and that was way up there. also you must have been running li-ion, not lipo cuz 2.9 v a cell would be a dead lipo. but all in all nice job!
The number represented overall link health. From now on I'm using Betaflight 4.2 and I'll have rssi, rssi dbm and lq all on screen. But gps rescue's very sluggish response on betaflight 4.2 is making me think about going back to 4.1.7. Wooooow incredible, amazing. I would like to know more about the battery you use. How many discharge A is it? I have a 7" deadcat and I use a NCR18650GA 6S2P 7000mAh battery. Thank you
Thanks! The cells are 18650 molicel p26a rated for 35amps. I use 2 packs for 6s2p as well. I was worried about stressing the cells using bigger capacity, lower amp rated cells. My packs come down barely warm after a long range flight and only moderately warm after freestyle type flying.
yes the p26a. I wanted to get the p28a but it looks like they either stopped making them or they have devoted sale of the entire stock to a company for cars or something.
On your build video you were saying you were going to try out 21700 4s packs ? Did you try that setup as I'm building a 2- 4s Setup or do you like the 6s better
I like how it worked with 4s li-ion with a lighter 7" build. I have another lighter frame that I use with a smo4k camera and the 4s li-ion works well with that lighter setup and iflight 2506.5 motors and the new germfan 7x3.5x3 props. Gets over 14km with a 21700 4s pack and weighs about 825g all up.
@FalconRad how do you get 4800 maH at the end of the flight with 6S 2p ??? I have made 2 6s from VTC6 and I reach around 2700mah when I'm at 3 Volts !!! Connected both in Parallel. Am I doing something wrong ?
My guess would be that you are running the VTC6 at too many amps. It is NOT a 30 amp cell like everyone says!!! The manufacturer says It's only rated for 15 amps constant. Stores all label it at 30 amps but it can only handle that for a coulpe of seconds. I'm not sure that the VTC6 is as good as everyone seems to think. At higher amp loads it's mah output goes down more drastically than other cells. It's only well known because it was first to fit 3000mah in a cell that worked well. But VTC6 don't handle amps very well when compared to molicel or samsung cells.
@@FalconRadFPV Thank you very much now is it clear why !!! In fact VTC6 are actually rated wrong for costant Amp draw. Istead what do you think about Samsung INR21700 Li-Ion cell 4000mAh 40A seams like it may handle 30 A Costant ???
Love it man! Great video again! You should make a video explaining some close calls. Do you think a antenna tracker would help for this application or does it just add another layer of complexity?
Ya just more stuff to setup. My antenna tracker is asking my spotter if my head is pointing the right way! A great close call video I made is "Sketch Factor 9" you can find it on my youtube page. It's 2 or 3 close calls in less than a second when entering a dive incorrectly.
How high up Mt. Everest do you think you could get? If National Geographic saw these vids I think they might have have endless amounts of projects they'd like to use you and your drones on, to film stuff that has never been filmed before.
That would be a sweet job! Humm, everest would be a whole different thing, that high up the air would be thin enough to noticeably lower efficiency I bet.
@@FalconRadFPV Maybe you've seen this: th-cam.com/video/BoTDf0W911E/w-d-xo.html At 6:25 they mention an altitude of 7000m. It would be wild to get drone video of climbers at that altitude. Not to mention negotiating some of the legendary parts of these mountains.
Love the content. I am getting into the long range game as well. I was looking at the Chimera 7 with Crossfire and 1300kv motors. What's your opinion on going with that setup ?
I've heard it's a pretty good setup. I myself would suggest waiting a week or two until I release my own 7" frame though 😉. The vibration performance is outstanding. Chris Rosser, an aerospace engineer helped me out with finalising the design.
Do you mean starting at 3.8v? It's because they are li-ion batteries. They sag quite a lot on take off then go down very slowly from there. They are charged to 4.15v or some time 4.2v.
they were very low maybe 380 degree/sec max. When there is no chance of recovering the quad I want to be able to have a jerk reaction to a surprise without over correcting and making the problem worse. It also makes the cinematic flow of the video easier to maintain. I love the flight feel of very low rates with a lot of feedforward.
Nice i was waiting for your video after so long! Have you consider for this long range flights to try INAV? It has more advance features tha betaflight
Your RSSI ? locked at 99% looks suspicious even though your using one of those diversity RXs..I'd like to see the antenna mounting arrangements...The BF direction indicator as you came down the bottom of the mountain was frozen 180 Deg in error...Epic flight path considering you were using 5.8g video IMO..The whole flight was pretty edgy stuff TBH....Well done...🤔😳😀🇬🇧
@@raminatorrammer Agreed, I see he's using a Bardpole on a Nano diversity RX, so yeah. Even so, I guess LQ would give a better idea of what's going on rather than just RSSI. That location probably has zero noise floor...lol...🤔😳😳😀🇬🇧
Ya 20km from the closest house or wifi router. There are 2 mountain top science monitoring devices in this valley and an emergency beacon relay a couple of mountains over. So ya the area is pretty dead for RF noise. Although I quit flying early one day when I saw a dji fpv in the air, thank goodness it didn't fly past when I was up a mountain of I would have lost video for sure! (I've orbited one of the science things while 5.5km out without issue's 😉)
@@FalconRadFPV Interesting, I use iNAV on my quads, it's way more reliable than BF for doing this stuff...22 Sats and Galileo coverage is the norm for me..I'm using 200mw on 1.2g for video which is more than enough and doesn't take out my GPS. I can't use binocular Goggles, so the Rapidfire solution isn't open for me...It's a GS and 5.8 relay..works well...lol .🤔🇬🇧
Is that 99 your LQ or RSSI? Also no matter which one it is, my crossfire shows either LQ 100 or RSSI in 30's to 40's, so how do you get that 99 on there? Is it different flight software or OSD?
no it's BF 4.1.7 using the old way of rssi and lq together. It gives an over health of control link. My newer setups will all have individual rssi, rssi dbm and lq.
@@FalconRadFPV mine does the exact same thing but I failsafed at 3km and I was using 500mw output power. I'm really disappointed in the results I've gotten, 3km is the furthest I've been, video goes out at the same time so maybe it's the environment but it happens the same no matter where I fly in my tri-state area. I'm going to try ELRS.
Ya I just upgraded. I've used my tranis for years now and thought it would be better to use my much less worn xlite transmitter instead. Also the new nano tx (crossfire tx v2) is a cheap upgrade. It only costs a bit more than a good vtx or a couple of motors.
And btw, I was able to turn off the gyro lowpass completely and motors are still only barely warm. It does have some low freq bobbles tho at midthrottle that I might try and get rid off with the braces you designed
Oh that's great to hear! I was worried that it might have not have worked out for you with the thinner arms. The newest version I've beefed up the arms to 8mm think by 10mm wide!
@@FalconRadFPV When trying to flex the arms by hands there is quite some play but in the logs it looks surprinsingly good. I'm still not finished tuning it but can tell it's much better than the previouse frames I tried. Going to 8mm is definitely a good thing. I think I'm going to work on a 7inch frame with vertical Y arms to minimize tortional movement as I think that is the major issue with long 7inch arms
Thats insane the reception you got up the mountain from the bottom 😳
Thanks to good antennas!

I have 4s molicells on my 5 inch w easily removable 18650s. Cheaper than lipo.
yes the p26a. I wanted to get the p28a but it looks like they either stopped making them or they have devoted sale of the entire stock to a company for cars or something.
@@FalconRadFPV Last week the 26a was $3.99 at the 18650 batt store online. Hoping the samsung 40t 21700 goes on sale soon.
Hi, can you share your gps rescue setting when you fly in mountains?
I'll try and do a video about it after I get my frame finished up and released.
@@FalconRadFPV thanks!
@@FalconRadFPV yeah I agree, I tell my friends that my neck is my antenna tracker lol
How high up Mt. Everest do you think you could get? If National Geographic saw these vids I think they might have have endless amounts of projects they'd like to use you and your drones on, to film stuff that has never been filmed before.
Agreed!
That would be a sweet job! Humm, everest would be a whole different thing, that high up the air would be thin enough to noticeably lower efficiency I bet.
@@FalconRadFPV Maybe you've seen this: th-cam.com/video/BoTDf0W911E/w-d-xo.html
At 6:25 they mention an altitude of 7000m.
@@FalconRadFPV will you be doing a bind and fly or just the frame?
Hello why your flights coming at 3.8V?
Do you mean starting at 3.8v? It's because they are li-ion batteries. They sag quite a lot on take off then go down very slowly from there. They are charged to 4.15v or some time 4.2v.
What were your rates on this flight?
they were very low maybe 380 degree/sec max. When there is no chance of recovering the quad I want to be able to have a jerk reaction to a surprise without over correcting and making the problem worse. It also makes the cinematic flow of the video easier to maintain. I love the flight feel of very low rates with a lot of feedforward.
Hello bro, what is the maximum range you got from this drone.
23 km with two 4200 mah 6s packs and a full size gopro. Not up a mountain though.
@@FalconRadFPV waaoo, 23km, great bro by the way what was the flight time you got with those battery packs and what was your Cruise speed.
Greetings. How did you enable 4k 60 fps 4: 3 mode on gopro 6 black? I don't have such a mode on this camera.
Post process:
"-Recorded at 4k 60 fps 4:3 and exported at 4k 60 fps 16:9 " - This is mistake?
sorry mistake, recorded at 2.7k 4:3 60 fps, exported at 4k 16:9 60 fps.
Nice i was waiting for your video after so long! Have you consider for this long range flights to try INAV? It has more advance features tha betaflight
I'm not fond of changing things much and I'm so used to betaflight already.
Your RSSI ? locked at 99% looks suspicious even though your using one of those diversity RXs..I'd like to see the antenna mounting arrangements...The BF direction indicator as you came down the bottom of the mountain was frozen 180 Deg in error...Epic flight path considering you were using 5.8g video IMO..The whole flight was pretty edgy stuff TBH....Well done...🤔😳😀🇬🇧
RSSI went down to 91% at one point. Nothing suspicious here.
@@FalconRadFPV Freggin' DJI, i'm surprised one made it out there at the same time, especially FPV.
Amazing again ... thanks for sharing! ¶ :-)
Glad you enjoyed it
epic
Thanks!
My rssi drops to 40 at 300 meters or something but then holds out to 30 at a few km's away.
@@FalconRadFPV ok thanks for explaining that, I've always wondered why mine was different than others.
How oh earth did you get that range on your goggles? I can't even get a fraction of that.
Rapidfire module and good antennas.
Did you have direct line of sight all the time?
N1 Bro'
Thanks!
Upgrade to TBS Crossfire nano TX V2👍
Ya I just upgraded. I've used my tranis for years now and thought it would be better to use my much less worn xlite transmitter instead. Also the new nano tx (crossfire tx v2) is a cheap upgrade. It only costs a bit more than a good vtx or a couple of motors.
ok you must be my twin bro....i am not developing anything new but where w3e fly is exactly the same terrain !! tell me you live in BC or AK
Yup BC.
@@FalconRadFPV okay best guess you are flying west out of the columbia drainage into the eastern side of the purcell mountains......am i close
Wondering where you been hiding.
🙂 Thanks for all your comments! I'll be posting more often again now. Hopefully at least once a week.
Awesome, Got mine in the air 2 weeks ago. Look up my Facebook: Ruben Dietrich for some short clips. Will upload full edits to insta and youtube later
@@FalconRadFPV if you want, you can use some of my clips in the frame release video
