The reason why its sounds better when Noel sings this is because he is the one who wrote it. He is tied to it emotionally and lyrically. It's about his life of drug addiction and then being saved by a girl who cleans him up...then divorces him. That's why Noel refers to her as his "Wonderwall" who saves him. Noel wrote this song about his heroine who then gives him a divorce that he doesn't want. You really got to feel for this man.
Yea i heard it was about an imaginary friend as well... and he just said it was about his mrs because you cant write a song like that then tell your mrs it wasnt about her... i read that from noel gallagher quotes but your story is a little deeper lol

However I did see a movie from the 60's called wonderwall and it's about a guy who spy's on a girl through a hole in his wall and ends up saving a her from dying of an overdose so it could be about that partially
Noel has said in the past that Liam was given the choice of singing Wonderwall or DLBIA - and Liam chose Wonderwall. I love Liams' voice and I love Noels' voice - but I think that Noel should have sung Wonderwall - it suits his voice better. This song should always be acoustic and I love this version. This and the Canada 1995 versions are the best - I don't care as much for the Ryan Adams inspired one that Noel sings now. Liam should have been given Don't look back in anger to sing. The song is better when with electric guitar (listen to Maine Road DLBIA and Knebworth DLBIA) and Liam would have nailed it perfectly.
