I wish the post would have included the continuation. To see if it paid off. Like with one particular instance with Barry Bonds. The Diamondbacks walked him with bases loaded, walking in a run (just like here), and then got the next guy. It worked, Arizona won. Like one of my favorite sayings: If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid.
And what about the preferential treatment of the cardboard people. A real person gets on the field and they are removed from the ballpark. This guy got an upgraded seat.
These are the best baseball oddities videos on TH-cam. Instead of using the same 50 clips that every hardcore fan has seen, they have plenty of recent clips that I've never seen before, and the clips don't get cut off until the viewer has the best chance of understanding what happened. Keep it up!
I understand they made the right call according to the rules, but is the rule itself fair? I dunno. I think they should've at least granted Diaz homeplate. He was 45 feet down the line already.
Rightly so. Streaking on the field is wrong, and just plain stupid, but this was outright dangerous. Even chucking garbage on the field probably isn't that dangerous.
Aside from it being disrespectful and rude to all the players and all the fans, he could have potentially blinded him with the laser pointer, or caused some kind of eye damage. And even if the laser pointer wasn't strong enough to blind someone, did you see what a baseball can do a man's face in the clip right after when the ump got nailed in the jaw? And that wasn't thrown at upwards of 100mph.
Wow @13:35. Ump calls time after the pitcher is in the wind-up; then calls a strike three that’s clearly a ball. Umps are the the worst part of baseball! Especially Angel Hernandez. Edit: I realize after a couple rewatches of the replay that the batter, Odor, called for time and somehow got his hands on the bat for a home run. Not the ump’s fault actually. Baseball is a crazy game. And OF COURSE it’s Angel Hernandez.
13:10 I love the mets booth, far and away the best in the game since Scully retired. Never a hesitation to call out their own players or fans or defend opposing ones. And very good broadcasters in general of course.
While I can see the strikeout being called wrong, it seems like the time out was actually batter’s fault. If you look at the very beginning of the clip, you’ll see the batter put up his hand. It was just an extremely inopportune moment, and Hernandez simply called time anyways, but by that point the ball was coming and the batter still took a swing anyways. If you ask me, the fault is more on the batter than the ump for that one.
@@twelved4983 while I agree the umpire is the ultimate decision maker on time outs. Just because the batter puts up their hand doesn’t mean they have to call it. It’s in their judgment if it warrants it or not. It’s still on him for this he sucks.
I don’t know how I feel when I see Trout still on the angels. I mean I get it he’s honoring his contract with them but every day that goes by and he doesn’t demand a trade I gotta think that’s more on him. He needs to win something before it’s too late.
I want to know how this Seager clip ended. The Bonds one worked. A two run game became a one run game and ended a one run game. The next batter was retired and the Giants lost.
10:56 I dont know how thats not more common honestly. Any doubt or hesitation from the runner could be huge. Even if they were just confused briefly, doesn't hurt to try
The ground rule double never made sense to me. If the ball makes contact with a defender and goes out it should be a home run. How different is it from out fielders messing up a catch and goes out? Just like Adell in the second clip?
Take the fielder out of the equation and you've answered your own question. It is a home run if the ball leaves the field on a fly. It is a double if it strikes the ground. Also the play in question is up to the umpire's discretion. If they believe the fielder intentionally knocks the ball out of play then I think it is next base plus one.
When the ball bounces off the outfielder’s glove (or head) and over, why is that a home run and not an error? At least with the glove it should be an error.
I still don't understand that first clip to this day. I get by the rulebook that's the rule. But what is the difference between what happened there and the right fielder chucking the ball into the stands? Why should intent matter there? Feel like all runners should get an extra base as like what would happen if an errant throw goes out of play
As I understand the rulebook, if the right fielder intentionally threw the ball out of play, two bases would be granted from the time of the throw, according to OBR 5.06(b)(4)(G). Since this ball just deflected off the fielder it still counts as a batted ball, and is thus a ground rule double under OBR 5.05(a)(8), meaning two bases are granted from the time of the pitch.
Guess that's what I mean. The ball deflected off the fielder because the ball went off the wall, in play and the fielder got in the way and it went over the fence. There had to be some player intervention to stop the ball from continuing its momentum. So the player, intentional or not, helped the ball go out of play. Why shouldn't that be the same as if an errant throw goes in the dugout, i.e., all runners move up a base from when the ball left play?
If you were just gonna stop trying then you should have quit after the second video. These past few have been so god damn boring. You could have used 1,000 better clips than these.

I know. As someone who loves the game, but doesn't get to watch it much, I love these
These COVID season clips creep me out still with the empty stadiums.
When the whole net just fell down at once I just burst out laughing.
That cameraman now knows how a fish feels in a net. Lol

That laser pointer incident might be one of the most shameful things I’ve ever seen from a fan. Who in the hell does that?
