To find a squirrel I usually scout a place for a month, get completely scent free, wake ip at 4 am, sneak into a perfect deer ambush with the wind perfect snd just wait. Some darn squirrel will sit over my shoulder and squak and cut until every white tail in the woods will know I am there.
I have never heard anyone do that. I have heard of tapping two quarters together simulating him cracking and chewing, I guess it is like giving the all clear. Thanks for sharing
Same call I have. I've found the baby distress call on it to most effective with the grey squirrel. Also, I believe it's more of a locator call rather than a call to bring them to you as you do with turkeys. Love the video. Thanks Mike.
Hey Mike I appreciate the content. Growing up we were sort of raised to wait until after deer season to shoot squirrel or at least the first frost so there weren't any warbles or other parasites to cut out. I suppose they aren't really a problem once you remove them. Seeing them crawl out of a deer nostril when it's hanging out of a tree doesn't bother me but out of something smaller I guess would give me pause. How often have you dealt with critters inside of small game when harvesting before the first frost? I reckon as long as you cook it well there really isn't an issue. Thanks.
I wish I had my camera on, over the weekend I was wearing all camo just like you and hiking and out of nowhere two squirrels ran up on me and all most came to my feet then stopped and saw me and separated, I know I walk quietly sometimes but not that quiet haha
Ok I have rewatch this video 15 times now.. How the hell do you bark with your mouth?? I can make the long howl that has a 50/50 chance of bringing them in or running them off.. I have the HS squirrel call its a 50/50 also.. years ago I bought a dog trainer whistle that has adjustable tones it makes the best distress call I have ever used and has landed me a huge number of my kills.
Why kill them? I've had a grey squirrel for about a year now. I pulled a couple botfly warbles out of him when he was a pup. He's been the best friend I've had in years.

What brand is that call?
That's right! More of a locator, you aren't hardly going to ever get a squirrel to come to you but you will get them to give themselves up
The hunter specializes squirrel call I bought in late 90's early 2000's is 50/50 on bringing squirrel to me.
That was some nice squirrel calling Mike!
