Hi David! Since purchasing my Stanley 10-049 two and a half years ago, I have had a reliable tool that I use daily. Even though I bought some blades when I picked up the knife, I have yet to replace the original blade. It sharpens up well on the Smith's in just a minute or two. Again, I really appreciate all the good advice you share on the channel.
Bought one with a sheath and two blades used borrowed my sons work pro sharpener it move some metal now sharpened up the back and it works like a dream ,i also bought a used "finn wolf" by cold steel aus8 steel scandi grind i had to sharpen the edge a lot looked like a saw lol and squared up the back so far its a fine blade and not too pricey for what you get you should grab one i think your going to really like it thanks for all your cool videos David i do enjoy them and told my son to have a look .
I finally found a smith’s sharpener, it was the last one they had. I noticed a similar one in the cooking utensil section. It might or might not be as good.

That’s a tough little knife. I almost bought one of those at ace.
I’ve bought 3 or 4 at Ace over the years then they discontinued them. I had to start buying them online.

Staring.
clean that hone with a red rubber eraser.
How long does the blade last you before you have to replace it?
I use and abuse it everyday. About a year. Before I got into bushcraft though, it lasted for years.
