23 years old, just got my email today to test to strt my journey in the local 3 in the NorCal region. Kinda nervous. Coming from a sewage bypass / pipe fusing program!!! Let’s get it
I Found your video. I"m a 50 year old Dad tryint to help my son pick a career. I use to design Survey equipment at Trimble when i graduated as a Mechanical engineer. I"m trying to guide my son either getting a geomatics 4 year, 2 year, or find a job and be an apprentice. We are up in San jose Ca. Your videos are helpful. I would be curious what your thoughts are of Fresno's 4 year degree? He has no experience, but works at a golf course. He had a year off from high shcool, so maturity is slowly increasing and now realizes he is being left behind. Either way, videos are helpful.
If I were to do it over again, I would go for the 4-year degree and get my LS and retire early from caltrans. My dad was a surveyor and worked in the field. Never got his LS. I've worked in the field only in the union. my older brother worked in the field. My younger brother is who I work for and he started in the field and got his LS because he saw some advancement opportunities.. So, I would if I were to do it again I would definitely get my license because there's a lot more opportunity now as a licensed land surveyor as opposed to a party chief. In my opinion. Only because our crews are getting smaller and smaller technologies getting better and better. And I'm not saying we're going to be put out of a job but the guy who holds the license is going to have the job longer than the guy in the field.
Following from NorCal, grass valley area. Any resources you could give for the NorCal region would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the info. It’s very much appreciated.
Great. Thank you. I just called today and they told me that the application process will be open in January. What should I prepare for? Should I study anything while waiting to apply? Completely green. Also, where are you based out of? Whats you company named? Thank you. -Christian
Im here in socal looking to apply this upcoming January of 2025. I saw that they provide a study guide as well as a reference book called mathematics made simple. Would you say these two pieces of information are all i need to be successful in the exam?

Congratulations. Good travels on your new journey
I'm starting out as a technician. I'm a car guy. This is completely different for me. Setting up the robot on the stand is so difficult for me

To join the union, you have to pass a basic geometry test. The main office of the joint apprenticeship in Pasadena can send a sample test.
How in demand are land surveyors here is socal. Would you say i have a high chance of joining the scsjac as long as i get a good exam score?
We are in demand, but when the economy slows down, we are the first to be affected
