The technique, the confidence, the showmanship - it is pure joy to watch this young lady play the drums. I’m 60 now - I’ve been playing the drums since my early teens. I’ve never seen anybody like her. The power of her hits. The perfect kick technique that does not choke the head. Thanks for sharing this Yoyoka and may you always be this joyful as a musician. Amazing!
I have never seen someone so young with such a fundamental understanding of music and timing. Videos like this are usually of children doing what the song requires, not what it feels. They follow a pattern, or a blueprint of sorts without understanding what the song is supposed to be. I've watched countless prodigies hammering away at notes on a page and never once felt like they knew what those notes meant. This girl feels the music. She loves it. She embraces it. What an absolute treasure. I can't wait to see where the future takes her.
@@akule3430 She is impressive indeed, but not as creative as Yoyoka. And she kind of appears unnatural when playing the drums - more focused on how she would look and behave on camera, rather than trying to play in her own style
mirotech I agree like you said she is good very good but, it when it comes on the camera playing it’s like she’s showing of. To me it just feel unnatural about her.
I've played drums since 1982. The maturity of the playing of Yoyoka combined with her happiness is unreal. I can not do what she does, hence she just got one more fan.
@Michael Srite Thanks for the question. I would definitely call her a prodigy. I have taught a few kids play drums, but never met anyone this talented. Her technique is very good and is beyond what you would expect from a 9 year old. The way she plays is what you would expect from an amateur drummer taking weekly lessons and playing a couple of hours 2-3 times a week for at least 10 years AND playing weekly in a good band. Many who do the above unfortunately still never reach her level. In addition the emotional embracing of music that she displays comes with years and years of playing live gigs with good musicians. One could expect this level of musicianship from a 20 year old drummer who started playing at 10 years old and has played with good musicians in a band for most of his youth. No one plays drums this well, practicing at home, playing covers with a background track and being 9 years old. Except Yoyoka.
@Shufei we sometimes forget all musicians are entertainers as well as musicians. The more fun you are having entertaining yourself the more entertaining you will be performing. And she doesn't sacrifice sound for entertainment. She is the total package. I agree with you 100%. I have been around talent my whole life. Some seem to be born with talent that some can never achieve no matter how much effort they put into it. My point is, I am rarely in awe of anyone, but I am in awe of Yoyoka. I would drive long distance and pay good money to see her. If you haven't seen her doing Stray Cat, standing up with only a snare, bass drum, and cymbal, you have to see it! I have to add, very well said, Shufei!
@Michael Srite There is a video on TH-cam of Robert Plant watching her play. He want's her to play with Led Zeppelin! th-cam.com/video/-XYr6H2mGxk/w-d-xo.html
Chus Fernandez 😂Thanks for the laugh! In all honesty, I don’t think you could have picked a greater role model. She’s insanely gifted and has the time of her life expressing it. Comment of the day!
Don't be embarrassed!! I started playing bass 2 years ago... at age 56!!! My inspirations are Toshiya of Dir En Grey and Reita of The Gazette, but also Carol Kaye of the Wrecking Crew, Lemmy of Motorhead...and tons of other bassists... I'll never be in a band, I just play for the fun of it...and I don't read music either! Please, just enjoy yourself!
Good for you! I think that's fantastic. 👍🏼 Having never played an instrument in my life, I picked up an electric guitar in my upper 40s. Even though I only play for myself in my living room, it is one of the greatest joys in my life. Kinda corny, but true.
Embarrassed? Why? I’d say not only have you taken up a very cool and satisfying hobby but you’ve chosen an outstanding role model. She’s doing something she loves, and is damn good at it.
What set Yoyoka apart from just about every other drummer on TH-cam is the way she grooves while playing. A lot of others I have seen look like robots while playing and it's no knock on them. I think its just that her talent is so innate, so inborn that it's just that much easier for her and she can have that much more fun while doing it.
Forget the talent for a bit (and for sure she's freaking talented), she's just having the best time of her life playing drums, what more could you ask about it?
EVERY SINGLE COVER! she does, by the end I am IN TEARS OR LAUGHING WITH JOY - both the same! - its just my brain hasn't caught up with what I have just witnessed and can't figure out how to respond.
Beside the fact this girl is outstanding, happy, inspiring, brilliant, skillful, soulful, mindful... she has made at least 10 thousand plus people smile, but also made them humble. go and read these comments, i bet there are some real talented people who commented and not one of them are negative, and for the love of god, who would say anything negative about her. But that is an accomplishment hard to pull off with so many differences of opinion in this world... not with her. i don't know what would make the 81 people that thumbs downed her happy, but we hope they find it somewhere.
Ridiculous. She’s a gift to the world. Japanese girls are obviously wired differently to the rest of us. They have the funk gene. She plays with so much groove, so much enthusiasm. I love to see it. What will she be like in ten years? My brain can barely process her ability now.
I came home from work, tired and fed up. A friend shared this video and I watched it with a huge ear to ear grin on my face. Commenting during my 5th consecutive play of the video. Still grinning from ear to ear. The joy is totally infectious!! Thank you!
For all you haters out there, get a life. This girl is so good she knows she can also enjoy the moment. Self taught, and started young, because she wanted too. Although my instrument isn’t the drums, I am a musician and I have to say, along with Yoyoka’s incredible talent, seeing how into the music she is and how much fun she’s having, genuinely brought tears to my eyes. THAT is what music is all about! Long may she continue!! Consider me a fan :)

If you see a child around 4 years old, dancing to music in a natural way and obviously enjoying themselves to the extreme. Please buy them a drum kit. The above is the result.
It’s an OMG moment!!!!!! Totally on with timing. What a joy to view! Yoyoka dances when she plays. Totally AWESOME!!! Makes me smile when I watch such young talent. 😃
Whoever thought I would have so much fun watching a little girl play drums? You are awesome and I totally enjoy watching you and listening to you. Keep them coming. The world loves you.
I agree with all of comments about playing what she feels. One reason is, at this time, she didn't even know how to read music. A natural TALENT! This girl has FUNK! My favorite little Drummer Girl!
There is only one thing I love more than watching her crushing these pieces and that’s the pure joy in her facial expressions! She is a treasure and a gift of joy and hope to all!

A shout-out to Yoyoka's parents for exposing her to quality music and giving her everything she needed to fly once they saw that she was ready for take-off.
check out her and her parents doing Rage against the machine i think it bulls on parade....!
killing in the name.
She is amazing. No one lives in the groove like Yoyoka.
I am this girls biggest fan she's the greatest God bless her parents.
No, I am... lol she is great.
I have just discovered this amazing person
I can't believe what she does
SHE IS MY FAVOURITE DRUMMER
I'M 46. FOLLOWED AND PLAYED FOR YEARS
SHE IS SO TALENTED
I never could tolerate that song before. Yoyoka gave me a reason to listen to the complete song. Worth it.
She looks like she’s having so much fun it makes me want to learn drums!
Yoyoka that is better than the original! And I can’t believe how much you have improved over the past year too!
Who doesn't love watching our favourite little maestro Yoyoka Soma!
In this little is probably hidden an extraodinary drummer!😉
Whoever thought I would have so much fun watching a little girl play drums? You are awesome and I totally enjoy watching you and listening to you. Keep them coming. The world loves you.
まさに音を楽しんでる人。
真っ直ぐでほっこりする子だなぁ。
I agree with all of comments about playing what she feels. One reason is, at this time, she didn't even know how to read music. A natural TALENT! This girl has FUNK! My favorite little Drummer Girl!
There is only one thing I love more than watching her crushing these pieces and that’s the pure joy in her facial expressions! She is a treasure and a gift of joy and hope to all!
im back again to watch the snare hits at 00:41 , 00:44 and 00:48 in slow motion
いい笑顔、素晴らしいドラミングです。^_^
Impressive 👏🏻
This Japanese girl is KILLING IT!!!
こんばんわ。よよかちゃん、どんどん進化していますね。9歳になったんですね。これからが楽しみですね。頑張って下さい。応援しています。
Yoyo's talent will shock you. Don't believe me? Just watch.
I am a drummer myself and I can't stop watching Yoyoka's videos. She is amazing.
She's probably the only one to put a smile on my face on one of my worst days 😄
まさに鳥肌もんだな、この表現力、ただの器用なドラマーではない、
海外からのメッセージが多いことから、よよかちゃんの凄さがわかるよ、
音楽ってこうも国境超えて伝わるものなんですね、
I've watched this about 20 times in the last 3 days.
Amazing - what a great kid.
Not only talented but looks so happy - a joy to see in these times of doom.
she is amazing and she is just now learning how to read music, she has learned every thing by her ear which is even more amazing, I just hopes she keeps playing as long as she is having fun because you can see the joy in her expression when she's playing
She is bopping along in the groove like this was written by her from the start.
She is amazing.
いやぁ楽しいなぁ
この曲を知ったのは Super Bowl 50 Halftime Showだったんだけど
よよちゃんがHalftime Showで叩いてる映像が浮かんじゃいましたよ
