  • What are the best things to do in Vancouver, Washington? Yes, you read that right. Vancouver, Washington… not Vancouver, British Columbia. As far as most of the world is concerned, there is only one Vancouver. It’s in British Columbia and is Canada’s third largest city. It’s also that place you see in countless movies pretending to be New York, London, or even North Korea, like in the hit comedy, The Interview, starring Seth Rogen. But no, that’s not the Vancouver we are talking about.

There is in fact another Vancouver. Just 300 miles to the south, making up the second half of a metropolitan area with Portland, Oregon, is the oft-overlooked city of Vancouver, Washington. With a population of around 175,000, it is by no means a small city. Yet for over a century now it has been almost entirely overshadowed by its Canadian brother. According to American Vancouverites, that’s all about to change as the American city has officially launched a re-branding campaign. The re-brand will refer to itself as the “original Vancouver”. This isn’t entirely inaccurate as it is in fact historically older. Of course, that’s a task that may be easier said than done. Both cities are named after the British sea captain George Vancouver, who explored much of the Northwest territory at the end of the 18th century, and who apparently discovered enough to have two major cities fight over who could honor him best.
Safe to say, the Canadian city is currently holding the banner as most popular, but for how long? With the local tourism bureau hoping this will draw more attention to the city, it begs the question, what are the best things to do in Vancouver, Washington? Stick with us as we take a look at Vancouver, Washington and all the great things it has to offer.

I used to live in the Coov and loved it. I just hope that when they replace the Interstate Bridge, they make it beautiful because it's going to frame Vancouver's skyline. It's not just going to be a way to get to Portland's biggest suburb, but Vancouver's big selling point. No dull Sam Jackson or Marquam looking crossing, put up something that rivals the St Johns!
