Ok I have always wanted to hand forge my own knives but a damascus pattern I have always wanted to see is a counter twist with a ladder pattern added in to the twist but I don't know how it would be done I call it a twisted ladder Damascus
It would be ideal if you activated the subtitles in all languages, so you will have more views, because not all people know or understand English or there are other friends who do not comment, they just do the job and ready!
If you died TODAY, where would you be spending eternity? Have all your sins been forgiven or are you still hoping that you're a good enough person to earn a spot in heaven. Thanks for coming on at the end and giving some comments on the video. Silent videos are cool for ASMR stuff, but it great to have some details from the aftermath. Great work!
I was a pipe welder for 32 years, now I'm a welding inspector. You can definitely weld stainless to carbon with a very strong weld with a 309 rod, or tig weld it with 309 tig wire.
I collect Seaxes, usually of monosteel, and pattern welded ones, but I have never seen a Damascus steel one like that, it’s beautiful. But that style of Seax, is the Anglo Saxon Broken back Seax. Also the handles on most Seax were over long, in fact some of the handles on smaller Seax, were longer than the blade, so a six or seven inch long handle would be accurate for this Seax.
Thanks for the info! I knew it was in the style of the broken back seax but I didn't know the handle length was supposed to be much longer. I will keep that in mind for future seaxes.
The entire knife type is of the Saxon tribe it's literally their name. To call this Viking is just rude. Saxon literally means men of the seax. It's LITERALLY their name sake and the name sake of today's Saxony Germany. You dumb boffins.
I actually think that you not sketching your pieces beforehand enhances them in the end. You have a rough idea of what you want and let your creativity do the rest. That’s art! And they always turn out beautiful!
Dude, your work is so nice. Attention to detail and taking it slow when it counts really is worth it, the results are always stunning. Can't wait for the next!

No worries, we still do not know how actual damascus steel was made ;) We just call the forge welded steel that shows fancy patterns when etched damascus steel nowadays.
We actually do know how wootz steel was produced using crystal generators like vanadium and lowest possible temp forge welding. People create water steel all the time today. Google it.

I live in AZ too. I do construction and can say" you don't sweat ,,, much". I would be soaked like I just jumped into a pool with all my clothes on. Nice job on the Viking Seax. In the garages , they use a thicker 5/8ths drywall for greater fire resistance . But I wouldn't press your luck as it is meant only to buy you some time to escape the inside of the house if a fire breaks out in the garage. I guess they figure there is a higher chance of fire in the garage due to the vehicles and possible chemicals storage. Keep in mind that the heat transfer to the framing above you could melt any wires you might have laying across the framing causing electrical hazzards ..... and although not very common, it could also spontaneously combust in the attic and you may not catch it till its out of control. May i suggest you roll the forge out the side door until you can get a proper hood to draw the heat outside. Keep up the great work. Stay safe!
Thank you Jesse; I am going to love having this blade in my collection. I knew this was a blade you could more than do justice to and I knew I wanted you to make it when I saw you on FinF.

@@BennyCFD For at least 200 years, the term "Damascus" has been applied to high layer count pattern-welded steel that roughly emulates the look of traditional high Vanadium content "Wootz" crucible steel from Damascus (and India) that gets its "watered" random pattern from the carbon nucleation sites created by the Vanadium. I believe it was a German knife merchant who first recorded the distinction in the 1800s, listing blades of both methods as two separate types of Damascus... so it's not the ignorant misconception that you think it is: it's been standard nomenclature to refer to pattern-welded steel as Damascus for centuries. And it's specifically because it was done, in conjunction with etching the finished blade, to try to replicate the look of traditional crucible Wootz Damascus steel, which was a misnomer in itself because a great percentage of that "watered" crucible steel was made in India, not Syria. So if you want to be pedantic and say that pattern-welded steel isn't Damascus... then most of what you'd call "real Damascus" isn't actually Damascus, either... but is instead Indian Wootz. Or you could just go along with what has been the global standard terminology in the worldwide blade market for centuries, and refer to this type as "Pattern-welded Damascus" and the original type as "Crucible Damascus."
Honestly if someone told me I'd sit and watch a 30min welding video I'd never have believed it but I fw your vibe so much it kept me here, and I learned a few things myself too. Great video 👍🏼👍🏼
Honestly wasn't sure how the pattern was gonna turn out but damnnn! I love the honesty of these videos.its not like "this is how you make a knife" it's more "this is how I make a knife" I dig it
It came out looking cooler than I expected as well😅I try to be as honest as possible, I’m sick of watching TH-cam videos that lie under a film of dishonesty, I’m sure many other people as well.
For the nerd neck comment, I had REALLY bad nerd neck from years of gaming, its been about 6 months since I started going to the gym and working out, I used to have 2 days of back days a week very spaced out but i've noticed 1 a week is better for recovery as long as your back workout is very intense, trust me, I *promise* you, if you wanna fix your nerd neck working out your back completely fixes it, ive seen a HUGE improvement in mine already. I started out at home with dumbells and a bench but cables offer alot at the gym, maybe you could afford your own cables for home if you dont like the gym, either way, it wont solve itsself on its own over time, it will only get worse, beautiful build by the way, just thought i'd offer some advice, if you need any more I'd be happy to help. Thanks for the half an hour of entertainment homie.
This is incredible work! Not only are you skilled, you are very entertaining. I've never watched long forging videos before, but this was really entertaining the whole way through. I appreciate the narration and humour :)
I just saw your Forged in Fire episodes. WOW...... I wonder why they didnt ask you to become a Judge. You are a clear example of Talent (Gift) Vs Experience. Still With experience your talent will make your blades immortal!!!
Great build :) To answer your questions, I'd say that power tools are for rough shaping (disc cutter, course grinding) and final finish (polishing). Filing would be great for precision work followed by hand sanding, and you'd still need to buff it up with a power tool, but hand tools do introduce less heat in the process. This will differ slightly between wood and metal, but the basic gist is to use power tools in such a way that you only need a minimum of final shaping, with in your case also keeping heat treating in mind. It's an order of steps kind of deal, and whatever helps you minimise the steps at the best quality you can deliver brings more food on the table.
If you haven't already, here's an idea for a jig: install 2 fans in the corners of the room, near the ceiling. Position them to create a vortex in the room, so that the airflow prevents any one spots from collecting too much heat. Bonus: cooling effect in the room.
I recently discovered your videos and I enjoy them a lot. Your craftsmanship and creativity are excellent in my humble opinion. I like your narrative and that you don’t include any tacky music. Lastly, I think your watch is very nice.
Hey kid! I love your work. I am really impressed with the craftsmanship. Brushing the scale away, grinding till clean metal, squaring up etc. Also, and most importantly you do seem very safety oriented! But I do not see any hearing protection and you could certainly use an exhaust hood. That Seax is absolutely amazing, WOW!! I have never seen better. Good Job!
My grandfather showed me this video. I'm amazed that someone as young as you are, can create something so professional and beautiful. You really are an artist. And I like your personality too.
You really need a milling machine, there are plenty of low cost milling machines that are not really expensive. Ill let you know the cost soon. So far you are the best forger I’ve seen on youtube.👍.
At 29:36 when you are doing file work for the guard, you can mark the depth with a hacksaw and the file guide, widen it with a triangle file, and then use the round one to finish it. It's easier and faster than manually trying to do it all the way with the round file.
I don’t know if you know this trick yet but to get jewelers rouge out of the grains of many woods, cut a 1”x1” square off of a magic eraser and put some mineral spirits on it and wipe down your handle with it and it takes the rouge right out of there. Do this before you put any oil or finish on it. Learned that a few years into my knife making ventures. Very nice vids.
Beautiful blade, hell of a total build. I did subscribe, just due to your comic relief and skill while making the blade as well as you being a young person. On the young person side, i don't see many with your kind of skill set. Forge Long and Prosper.
For your heating equipment, you might consider placing hoods over them, you can combine the system to evacuate & greatly reduce the heat. Not to difficult.
Having watched several if your videos now, I see why Alex speaks so highly of you. We have very different ways of going about things, but I have to say, I deeply respect your craftsmanship and your respect for the craft. Can't wait to meet you and shake your hand at Blade next year.
I asked for a custom knife to be made for my father on Father's Day. The blacksmith said it would take a FEW MONTHS. Until now I didn't quite understand what went into these blades. Thanks for your educational/entertaining videos!

As A Saxon , may I just say that the term “Viking seax” is ridiculous! It’s an Anglo Saxon Seax. We made ‘em and were NAMED AFTER THEM.
dude you are now my new teacher that was insane bro its getting me ichy to get started making my own knife

Nothing is more important than your eternal destination. Please, don't say, "When I get older I'll get right with God' or 'I'll get serious with Jesus one day when I'm ready.'
Don't wait any longer, today is the day of salvation. Get right with God today, for tomorrow very well might be too late.
We invite you to REPENT and accept that Jesus Christ is Lord of your life by praying this simple prayer out loud right now...
'Heavenly Father, I turn away from my old life and repent for my sins. I believe that Jesus came for me, that Jesus died for me and that Jesus rose again for me so that I can be forgiven and receive eternal life. I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life from this day. Through Him and in His Name, receive the gift of eternal life. I ask you to fill me with the Holy Spirit and lead me for the rest of my life. In Jesus name - Amen.

It's not Damascus it's layered forge welded.
I can't accept that you have this small amount of subscribers. You 100% deserve that 0.5 of a Million.
I feel like with only 4 high effort videos I don’t deserve 0.5 million yet😅, I gotta pay my dues first
Beautiful!!! One of if not the best ive seen. Respect!! 👍👍❤❤
I love the high contrast of this pattern. Can't wait for the video.
It does have amazing contrast, I’m excited to show it to you :D
Definitely a masterpiece and I did witness a master in the making.
Low layered Damascus is more beautiful than a 1000+ layer because it is easier to see 👍
Agreed, at some point high layer patterns just look gray
Totally agree, favorite spot is right around the 120 mark.
@@stephenadair8356 Yea, i would say 100 layers is perfect for me 👍
I’m officially down the blacksmithing rabbit hole. Thanks Jesse!
@@jhublades well love the videos.looking forward to more!
First time watching... for being ADHD myself you kept me focused the whole time! Keep it up! That acid etch blew me away!
This is why we find this so satisfying. Adhd and some ocd unite for the greater good 😂
A TRUE MASTER OF HIS CRAFT ..BRAVO SIR BRAVO...
It might be an interesting idea to use some of your old belts like ray skin in a handle wrap.
Hehe I’ve thought of that before, maybe for a future project
That... that was honestly one of the coolest freaking knives I've ever seen. I want one now.
This is incredible work! Not only are you skilled, you are very entertaining. I've never watched long forging videos before, but this was really entertaining the whole way through. I appreciate the narration and humour :)
Thank you so much! I'm honored I could deliver an entertaining video.
Dude that pattern is AMAZING!!!! 😮😮😮😮
Fantastic result, great work!
I've never seen Forged in Fire, but you've got a new subscriber here anyway because of your skill and sense of humour :)
Thank you!! Glad to have ya here. If you’ve ever got the time, it’s a fairly interesting show :D
I just saw your Forged in Fire episodes. WOW...... I wonder why they didnt ask you to become a Judge. You are a clear example of Talent (Gift) Vs Experience. Still With experience your talent will make your blades immortal!!!
Oh this is gonna be a good one!
It sure is :D I left a few Easter eggs in the video as well

A seax is probably my favourite blade.......this deserves a sub 👏
This blade is a work of art.. the pattern almost looks like a snake..
Thanks man, it does look kinda snakish😅
Wow!!!! That is one of the nicest blades I have seen!!! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!! I appreciate it my guy :D
Glad to see a new knife maker on youtube! Brings me back to the golden days of slavik tely!
You put in so much effort into this good job 👍
I have to give thanks to the almighty algorithm for suggesting your videos! Thanks for the content! It's all excellent 👌
Great build :)
To answer your questions, I'd say that power tools are for rough shaping (disc cutter, course grinding) and final finish (polishing).
I enjoyed it💪 anytime I'm able to watch a craftsman play his trade💪💪
Best Forged winner ever. Seriously looking forward to everything on this channel.
I just found your channel today and I have to say the narration is amazing can't wait to dive down the video rabbit hole
This guy's cleaned house on forged in the fire and now he's at his home forge making Beautiful art.
I recently discovered your videos and I enjoy them a lot. Your craftsmanship and creativity are excellent in my humble opinion. I like your narrative and that you don’t include any tacky music. Lastly, I think your watch is very nice.
You’re like a wizard with metal. Great channel thanks.
Good Job!
Love the damascus pattern on the seax!
You definitely deserve every dollar you get. Well done!
You got my subscription. Beautiful knife. Very well done.
This channel is gunna explode soon
Fingers crossed 🤞
My grandfather showed me this video. I'm amazed that someone as young as you are, can create something so professional and beautiful. You really are an artist. And I like your personality too.
Excellent work! You don't know how wicked this blade shape is until you hold one!
Quickly becoming my favorite channel
You really need a milling machine, there are plenty of low cost milling machines that are not really expensive. Ill let you know the cost soon. So far you are the best forger I’ve seen on youtube.👍.
I don't know jack about blade smithing but man are your videos relaxing
that might be the coolest looking damascus I've ever seen. Thanks for the teaching lesson.
Got to say, that was cool. Very beautiful weapon.
I actually shouted Jesus Christ! When that blade was pulled from the coffee treatment!!!
Absolutely amazing
Another ridiculously awesome project. Nice!
Beautiful work. My condolences on being in AZ. I'm an AZ native and bladesmith that just moved to the frozen north at the beginning of the year.
Having watched several if your videos now, I see why Alex speaks so highly of you. We have very different ways of going about things, but I have to say, I deeply respect your craftsmanship and your respect for the craft. Can't wait to meet you and shake your hand at Blade next year.
... you videos is loaded with passion. So awesome.
I remember you from Forged And Fire. Congratulations on your victories. I would love to see a match between you and Ben Abbott.
Yeti snowball. Incredible work by the way.
make more videos like this, you gonna go viral
That's the plan, more on the way!
u are my favorite youtuber by far not just you but your videos are formatted perfectly, please keep making them
I asked for a custom knife to be made for my father on Father's Day. The blacksmith said it would take a FEW MONTHS. Until now I didn't quite understand what went into these blades. Thanks for your educational/entertaining videos!
I'm 70 years old the best thing in the world over the age of 50 is stretching😮 stretch your muscle fibers out or you're going to have trouble when you get older with joint aches and pains and all other problems
Whenever I see forging videos I can't help but to think of Knights in armor and Excalibur.
6:15 Thats literally the heart rate of any working man
I would love to watch you make a knife using steels like M390, s90v, s110v. Those are my favorite steels and what I look for when buying knives.
This man will hit 100k subs by next month, mark my words
Hehe that would be amazing if it happened, I’d gladly welcome some success
I love your shop. All the good toys.
Bro even plays BTD6 he is the definition of down to earth ( love BTD btw )
You could always hang a suspended fan behind the forge (aimed at the door, of course). That would definitely move the heat away
Typically it takes two to make Seax, but this guy can do it by himself in his garage!!!!
Very cool! Wow you have a ton of equipment! But the tools you use and your skills make beautiful work! Enjoyed the video very much! Thank you!
That water bottle obviously had it coming... great video! Really good narration
Good work and while I haven't seen any of your past works yet, I can confirm your accoustics are fine!
I am glad that the TH-cam Gods delivered me this video. I like your style and commentary - you're the same flavor of broken that I am. Subscribed!
I'm not a big fan of damascus steel in such a pure blade form, but the workmanship here is exceptional in its refinement. Really awesome job.
The man strikes again ❤
Gotta strike when the metal’s hot💪
