Glad I can see some people I mostly seen from comments using game characters portrait as their account images such as you 👍🏻 Isaac indeed is a great character.
Golden Sun 1 and 2 are still my favorite games 20 years later. And the music, man it was way beyond its time. Never had music fill me with adrenaline the way it did when I played it for the first time when I was a kid
Soon as the battle screech echoes, the screen cracks as the Doom Dragon stands before you; this beautiful masterpiece playing behind it. I can also vivedly remember my adrenaline kicking in as well and knowing that shit was about to get REAL. Soon as it Cruel Ruined me and almost dumpstered my whole party... Knew we were in for a wild ride. What a game. Easily in my top 5 games of all time to this day. 10/10
Kraden’s final line before the screen shatter intro starts with the song blaring is absolutely *BURNED* into my mind. His desperation when he figured it out rang loud and clear to me. Greatest RPG final boss I ever fought.
I remember in all my struggles against Doom Dragon, I thought he was begging us not to fight it because of how powerful it would be, thinking we had no chance. But then you defeat it and you realize what he was trying to warn you about...
My favorite final boss of all time... A story that spanned across two games, 8 characters who you grew to love, a story full of twists... all comes down to this battle. Truly a classic moment.
The angelic voice at the background is like telling you that you have reached the top, where place gods are, and they start telling you that you invaded their territory. It’s like declaring this is your final big boss. This is your destiny. That you have to fight this boss in order to reach the ending of all this chaos. And with your previous GS party along with your GS The Lost Age new party, THIS is the greatest final battle of all.
Ah I remember fighting this boss. I only had Felix left out of everyone, no healing items, no Djinn, no summons available and 13 HP. I was on the verge of giving up completely when I decided to just use the final attack and let it kill me - and I won because Felix dealt the finishing blow with his last attack - you have no idea how happy I was, I had tried for AGES to beat that thing x3 I have a strange luck when it comes to RPGs x3
I remember being utterly pulverised, down to having only Garet left alive, determined to go down fighting. "Garet attacks! You felled Doom Dragon!" I have ever since revered Garet as a hero.
i love this ^^ i love EVERY PIECE of the soundtrack of GS I and II , especially i like at them, they have some kind of "main theme" and in the background, they're playing another kind of melody ^^
Doom Dragon: Djinn storm! me: Wut? Doom Dragon: Cruel Ruin!!! me: phew survived barely, lemme just get a pure wish off the gro... Doom Dragon: Cruel Ruin!!!!! me: FFFUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*sets gameshark codes to make all characters HP and PP to 1999 & 999. Doom Dragon: Oh you cheated, eh? Then I'm about to unleash my.....DJINN STORM & CRUEL RUIN SPAMMAGE!
All that time in the first game, all that time in the second game. All that time getting all the best items, all for this final fight. The song’s like, the end of your journey, you’re going to finally going to beat the game. It kinda reminds you of all those past battles, leading up to this one.
Oh hello past me, while i agree with your sentament i must say that was a bad way of putting it. Rather it would be better to say "in my personal opinion while this may be better than some ff games 12 will always have a place in my heart as it was the first game of that caliber I had played so it's special to me"
To me, that part means ''the end of an era, and the birth of another; the heroes on the brink of reviving the Golden Sun''. It feels like the climax of the journey, and fittingly so. The heroes are determined to break this last obstacle so that they may gamble the fate of the world on the Golden Sun. They know how risky it is, but the alternative is to let the world slowly wither and die...Appropriately dramatic.
I have to say, the Doom Dragon took more attempts for me to defeat it than any other video game boss I've come across. It honestly didn't matter sometimes what strategy you used. If you got unlucky with a string of back to back Cruel Ruins, it was over. And grindr only helped so much because the Doom Dragon's HP actually scaled based on your party's levels 😬
Motoi Sakuraba is the true god here, to be able to do such fantastic songs for gba games. No matter how old i become i will make it my duty to hear this song from time to time until i die, it was my first final boss song and it will be my last to hear.
hoo boy, I remember beating him for the first time, hanging on only with Sheba with 57 health left. i suppose i was underlevelled then, but that was a looong time ago.
This boss was one of the best final bosses I have ever foughten. It was tough, he had his own summon!(You can't get much cooler than summoning yourself!) (Then again, when I fought Iris...this boss was put to shame)
Golden Sun is the best example of how to do an RPG completely by-the-books and get great results. It lacks personality (Character-wise. It's very classic in that regard, and it is in no way worse for this), but more than makes up for it with awesome gameplay, an amazing score by Sakuraba, and, something missing from most RPGs of the modern day: An adventurous spirit. Definitely one of the best modern RPGs made in the style of the SNES classics.
hard or not, this was an amazing final boss for the original golden sun games... to this day hearing this theme gets me all fired up like few boss themes since!!
dragons, gods, demons etc , in many games and stories are beings of incredible power imo it is a good choice of final boss to be someone who is or turns into a dragon like that
Yeah lol i take that as a yes. good o'l gba summer days of me bashing this in my 6th grade. From time to time i still play the golden sun series. Summer memories ftw.
Yeah I learned the hard way too. I love that about the boss though, you deal with him his way or he'll just decimate you anyway, it's what a last boss is supposed to be like. We really don't see bosses hard enough in newer rpg's.
Epic! I never played this game, but I like to hear epic video games music. Final Fantasy, Romansing Saga, and now Golden Sun final boss (among other good GS songs)
@Xendarbletz i've just started on emulator and the graphics- the graphics.... are... OVER NINE THOUSAAAANNNDDDD!!! seriously the graphics are way to good for 2001.
@boogiepopdarf The main two things that kill the challenge of Doom Dragon are 1) the second party, and 2) sol blade. Take them out and give DD some better psynergy than quake, and it'd be a genuinely challenging boss. Still lots of fun, even if your party is OP.
@bigmike3192 not holiday season, it comes out November 29th :P and issac may not be playable in the game, its a possibility, but there is a chance he might not be
I've... actually never played The Lost Age, but I know all the spoilers and whatnot. I've got an emulator file for it, though. But I'm currently playing through the first game on the emulator (for pretty much the very first time, and after having not touched the file for about a year), so I've gotta beat that first for the password stuff. Also, even though I've never played the first two games in their entirety, I have beaten Dark Dawn approximately 4 times. ...F***ing cliffhanger, unresolved plot threads, and sequel hooks... EDIT: Also, when I had started playing the first game a year ago, I actually managed to beat Saturos at the Mecury Lighthouse on my first try, without any Adepts dying...
+The Real Jarkes Saturos at Mercury was actually relatively easy to defeat. He hits like a train, but usually only one member at a time. I think the point of that fight was really to drive home that the party still has a long way to go to defeat the two Proxians, hence why it's one of the more manageable boss fights.
There are final bosses and their special attacks which often you can prepare to tank it barely and then heal avain And then there's doom dragon, where from its first cruel ruin, you know you wont heal fast enough to keep up.
@MrSCSchan How epic would that be? I can just picture using it on those friggen Mad Demons in the Anemos Sanctum... That would defs make for good times :)
@TwilightKun4 Just save in front of the blacksmith in yallam. If you dont get Excalibur from the Gold Bar then just quit. But your right it is kinda hard, even if you spam summons. I even had Iris.
Not even this extract of pure awesomeness that is this piece of music can prevent the Doom Dragon from being ripped to shreds with a triple unleash from my Excaliburs. >:)
Ah, what happy memories "Flashback, WTF?!?! DJINN STORM OH GOD *DOOM DRAGON USES CRUEL RAIN* FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!" Ah good times, good times
Wise One: But what if a miracle were to happen...? Yes... Only if you defeat a mircale, then you shall be able to cast in the Mars Star... That quote made me feel evil, cuz, you know, all the GOOD guys get the miracle.
Doom dragon is child's play, Dullahan on the other hand was quite a challenge. I assembled my party of the strongest Piers for healing, and Isaac, Felix and Garet I think, god this was so long ago....this was the best gba game hands down.
@Jeromdehond Somewhat true, using that requires that one skill book and makes the char rather weak in everything else... they'll have less HP than normal, they themselves may be one hit. With that also being said, I'd typically use a Jupiter class to use the RNG method to my advantage or to use supports, but normally I roll with Isaac/Felix/Piers/Mia, and normally never need to switch, even on Dullahan. Managed to kill him with that + no summons :D @ lvl 40-50 too! (Noob summon rushers!)
I had the same moment with Piers against Dullahan. Summoned an attack water djinn and just admitted defeat. Motherfucker dies against a sub 200 damage attack. All hail Piers.
You know, I honestly think that Golden Sun can hold a candle - no forget that - a flame thrower to Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy VII. I don't mention the other FFs because VI and VII are the best of them.
What makes Dullahan actually easy is the fact that he has a set pattern but can start at it at 3 separate location (one of which being the dreaded Djinn Storm right on the first wave of attacks). I beat him on Hard Mode with my main team at level 50 or so with this. Plus, having the Tomegathericon is necessary since you still have Revive after Djinn Storm. Unfortunately, Doom Dragon is still cake if you can take on Dullahan.
Seeing the message "You felled Doom Dragon" is the greatest feeling ever
Then you find out what (or rather, who) the Doom Dragon WAS, and you feel really horrible...
It's much better when "You felled Dullahan" the most satisfying feeling ever
Beating dullahan is way more of an accomplishment
@@lettucememe3390 yeah you're right

Isaac indeed is a great character.
Oh wait!

*ALL HAIL LORD ISAAC*

Both in Golden Sun and The Lost Age, i ADORE the effect of the Boss basically breaking the screen of the GBA when it appears.
It's the best, along with the sfx *chi-chi-ching... KABLAAAAAMMMM*
Also seeing the party sprites are tiny in comparison was a cool detail. I dont think ive ever seen another game do that
Here lies the spirit of the Golden Sun series. As epic as it was in life. Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P.
There may still be hope. Pray to the Elements and The Wise One so that the Golden Sun may rise again

This happened to me like 12 times in a row, no joke it was painful
The pain and suffering that inflicts is nothing short of insanity like hell closer you get to winning the more inclined he is to do that crap

Such a fitting song for a final boss. The first time I heard this when I was a kid, I got chills.
This is my favorite boss theme ever. Bring tears to the eyes.
