    Italy had some really pretty ships (in real world), can't wait to see something like Duca d'Aosta or Abruzzi class cruisers ❤

      Italy has a really nice selection of cruiser hulls in the game as well! I shall make sure to focus on aesthetics as much as I can :D

    The Comitato Progetti Navali has done of review of proposals from Midvale Steel Works of the United States and Krupp Arms Works of Germany to replace the use of Harvey Armor from Harvey United Steel Company.

    The first Italian dreadnought, the Dante Alighieri, did in fact have an A-P-Q-X layout. So that could be what this hull is meant for and why it turned out balanced with that layout (though IRL the ship used triple turrets rather than twins).

    Was feeling mischievous while watching this, so wanted to submit an idea for the NEXT campaign. Call it Brother Munro"s Hell campaign. Would include restrictions such as: no gun barrels with lengths that are multiples of 5, if possible multiple smoke stacks must be fitted and they cannot match, no 2" guns (or derivatives thereof) allowed, a minimum of 4" of fore/aft belt armour and 3" fore/aft deck armour on capital ships (hope BM appreciates the funky Brit spelling). No doubt The Community can come up with tons more. Two potential problems loom, however. #1, I fear a multi-volume manual would be needed to list all the restrictions/additions, and #2, would Brother Munro have fun with it?

    Loving the look of the new campaign, and ship building looks much better with the mod. It would be great if we could see a ship/class named Garibaldi!

    Fulminata looks like she could carry two offset wing turrets in the center. one to the aft left, one to the front right front. This would create enough space for a barbette and a centerline turret in the middle. giving her four more guns to fire forward and aft. as well as two more for the broadside......

      Italy is likely to get into War with four European powers but not Germany which is good after running a German campaign. Time for the dedicated to adjust.

    Happy Days! A new Mod to a post-1.4 Campaign!
    Looking forward to seeing what N.A.R. has to offer in terms of content BrotherMunro! 👍
    (Sad to see rework efforts to clean up old ship designs can't be imported to your new series but such is life... I still plan on eventually upload them to the community folder whenever I finish)
    Anyways, the comment I wanted to add was at 25:03 you mentioned the Beam slider changes in 1.4. In Vanilla, the Beam hull stats needs to be visually checked while designing, because a 0.0 Beam for one of my ships actually had as much as a 5% penalty in accuracy de-buffs!!!
    Hopefully for you, N.A.R. is more forgiving, but I wanted send you this heads up (especially for (narrow) light ships (& even CA Cruisers), or capital ships intending side-mounted main armaments).

    I downloaded NAR last night and I have to say it's a brilliant mod, playing on legendary and man the ai punishes your ships if you don't pay attention absolutely loving this mod

    I'm really liking what I'm seeing with this mod. I'd go as far as to say, that if Game Labs had a clue, they'd incorporate this mod whole cloth into the standard game, and heave 1.4 into the dustbin. Not only is it more realistic, it also makes the game more enjoyable and playable, from what I've seen so far.

      Setting aside my personal issues with the modder and his forum behavior, NAR is in general well-researched and excellent work. It makes the game more historical and fun.

      Agreed,@@jabberwock2517. Now that I think about it, combined with the behavior the mod creator displays on the forum, this honestly feels like UA:D's equivalent to FlowerChild's Better Than Wolves mod for Minecraft, that was coincidentally also initially released for it's now decade old 1.4 Beta version. That mod was made purely out of spite and dislike for the devs over the direction they were taking the game, and despite being locked to the 1.5.2 release version, it's still seeing updates over 10 years later with the community surrounding this mod being so huge, it even has its own separate forum.

    You know, I'm liking this a lot. Seems like a lot of rational decisions have been taken during the development of this mod. Especially liking how you can actually build balanced ships so easily. Might this mean an end to the endless barfing of the destroyer crews?

    I like to use the 9-inch guns on heavy cruisers. Not only are they punchy, but they are the smallest of the big guns, where as 8s are the largest of the small guns, so the 9s are the first large gun to upgrade and 8s are the last small turret to upgrade.

    I've been able to get those dreadnought hulls up to 28 knots when I unlocked oil 1 without sacrificing armaments (4x 13.5) you could keep in mind for a future refit.

    Standardized Engineering Plant for New Ships.
    12 January 1908
    The Comitato Progetti Navali has reviewed the proposed standard engineering plant and steering plant proposals provided by the Corpo del Genio Navale. It is the decision of the Comitato that the standard plant for construction in 1908 and 1909 construction shall consist of the following.
    The engines will be steam turbines. Other than on experimental ships this has not been used before in the Regia Marina, but the reduction in weight, noise, and simple mess in the engine compartments recommends it. Engine efficiency is a problem at less than top speed, and hence range is reduced, but the turbine engines provide the same power output at only 75% of the engine weight, and have vastly superior acceleration.
    New boilers will be able to handle the burning of fuel oil as well as coal. The Regno d'Italia does not at this time control any sources of oil, but the additional cost and weight of the boilers is balanced by the versatility of them. This will require the bunkers to be able to handle oil and coal. In general when engine efficiency is sufficient the boilers will be naturally aspirated, but if necessary additional mechanisms will be installed to induce the boilers and create more heat to generate more steam power.
    A new shaft and propeller form, also tested on smaller platforms, will be installed. This will increase costs and weight but also improve acceleration and turning rate. An auxiliary plant fueled by petroleum will provide secondary power to pumps, turret turning engines, rudder turning, and emergency propulsion.
    We will continue to use balanced rudders as this provides the best balance in capability. The turning engines will now be a system of electrical and hydraulic machinery that can turn the rudder more effectively.

    I just started an 1890 Italian campaign on the new patch, biggest issue so far is that I can't make a CA with an engine efficiency above 30% due to the displacement limits lol

    Could you build multiple ships on the same hull, with different displacements and outfits? So theyre still handcrafted but you can get more out.
    Something like what the French did with the dantons in real life.
    A class of ships in which each one was a unique, funky, rubbish bin fire.

    I've actually been playing an italy campaign that I started in 1890 (becuse I hate myself), but I reached 1910 recently. It'll be interesting to be able to compare the mod to my vanilla experience.

    Summary: After extensive testing of available charge and propellant materials, and the latest options in shell design for both armor piercing and high explosive shells, the committee has made the following determinations:
    High Explosive Shell: Common Pointed Shell with percussion fuze mounted in the base. The use of pointed shell improves penetration for this lighter shell. Having the fuze in the base helps the shell detonate after penetrating the ship hull or plate.
    Armor Piercing Shell: Ballistic Capped Shell. The improved shape of the nose cone improved aerodynamics and thus penetration on target. The shell is heavier but has a small bursting charge.
    Bursting Charge: Trinitrotoluene (TNT): Invented by German chemist Julius Wilbrand, this stable explosive is less likely to detonate on impact and only after the fuze sets if off.
    Propellant: High Burn Cordite: Though highly unstable and thus requiring careful powder magazine regulation, this propellant improves the range of shells fired.

    sucks they removed the quads. would have loved to have seen a Lepanto or a C. Colombo from World of warships. Would be nice to see some more historical designs too in this campaign.

    The armor weight differences always bothered me, it doesn’t make sense to have both a weight difference and a change in effective armor. It would be one or the other

      It didn’t bother me until I actually thought about it. Naval armour is just steel. Different alloys and ways of making the steel but it’s still going to be the same density & therefore weight as raw iron (or so close it makes no difference). Only steel’s with high concentrations of tungsten or titanium would have noticeably different weights, and those weren’t a thing in UAD’s time period.

      The vin der tan style ones? In the vanilla game they are impossible to balance and are really awkward. Have to say though in NAR they are much more forgiving and just derpy in a cute way 😅

    Hey so I have a question. He says that an enemy ships with 12s will have to get within 6km in order to penetrate his armor but doesn't he have +80% armor quality? Doesn't this make his effective armor like 21 inches or something? So he shouldn't be able to pen his own belt at all???

      If you want to send in designs for the Community design library that is always open! If you mean for this campaign you can absolutely send them in but you must do so through the discord and you must be using NAR or they wont work :)

    One question does the arms race mod make armor upgrade not worth it anymore since it doesn't drop the weight and don't give more quality now ? Like when upgrading past Krupp dose it still give armor quality ?

      It increases quality and a couple of them increase resistance as well

      It gives more quality. So to have same def you can use less armor. Which is equal to weight drop. But ofc it is not so big as in vanilla.

      @@BrotherMunro Im just not really motivated to create designs If I never see reactions to them. I spend about 30h creating them when the beta started and another 2 fixing them when the update released. not getting any feedback for them / seeing them perform at least somewhere makes me just not putting effort in creating new ones. The reason I dont use mods/design ships with mods is that they are not compatible. An update or a slight change may render all designs unusable beyond repair. I could save about 80% of my pre 1.4 designs but I could not do that with mods- this would make the time and effort I put into creating ships not worth it for me, because there is a high chance of them braking after a few changes. I hope the devs change the game so that mods are not necessary to have fun.
      Sry for that long post, Im just a bit disappointed that i will never see any of my ships.

      Agreed@@Routerproblem . That's why, no matter how much I may like the changes a mod may make to the game, I'll never use any of them that do more than add hulls to the game.

    The barbets on the middle would ad some space for smaller broadside
