    Evan, Our family really appreciated this video. We were encouraged by the videos you made while we were on trail back in 2018 and thoughts YOUR takes on social media and it's power and how we can mitigate it is really important. Glad you appreciated the book. - Ben

    I work with lots of cute kids everyday but Ranier reminds me of my brother at that age that it's crazy. (He's turning 13 now, typical teen) . I am living through this journey as I have always wanted to do this but my body had other plans and yave me kidney failure amd am on dialysis 4 times a week at the age of 27. Hike my hike for me too amd even though I'm late watching. It's so cool knowing you did it!!!!!

    I has the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Ben twice when I was on trail in 2018 as well as meeting you in PA for some trail magic. Amazingly, Ben and the family got off trail for a bit just to run a marathon. As we followed their 2018 hike, there was quite a discussion as they got into Maine about summiting only to learn that the Baxter Park officials would refuse to grant the family permission to summit so their hike ended part way up the mountain. It was an amazing family journey and if I were to guess, I believe the family received more support and trail magic than any other family in history which made the trip all the more memorable.

    Evan, on this video you stated “the ‘Family’s’ achievement will never be surpassed!” Well I should let you know that it was surpassed last year by the Trout Family from your town of Nashville. Their Tramily family consisted of husband, wife, 5 kids, brother and a labrador retriever. I ran into them 10 miles south of Caledonia Park on my a SOBO LASH I was doing on May 2021. I took a group photo of them and exchanged info with the mom (who later texted me an image of them from Mount Moosilauke). They didn’t vlog their hike so they aren’t famous like the Crawford’s, but they definitely surpassed their record. - Sugar Bear.

    Great job on this video Evan. I watched this family's through hike and was amazed at their parenting abilities. I followed their whole hike on TH-cam, stumbling upon their first videos and the horrible weather they encountered in the first days. I was stunned that they had a toddler with them and was fairly confident they'd have to bail out. I enjoyed watching their journey and every time Rainier smiled, it was like the sun came out and shown brightly. I almost crossed paths with them, I believe, in Connecticut in June 2019. Two things I did not feel comfortable about, however. Their not filtering water, which Ben did a whole unconvincing video about and which I'm guessing he discusses in the book, and not taking Rainier to see a doctor for a crusty eye infection when they were in Maine, I believe. While his infection did get better, I thought it was irresponsible not to have him seen. I'm sure the book is great.

    • @FightforTogether
      @FightforTogether 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure us not filtering water is not comfortable to many people but our goal has never been to convince anyone towards that practice and I don't think it ever comes up on the book. WE do discuss mindsets of openness that creates dialogue which I think was the point of my video on water filtering. - Ben

      Thanks Chris! I was the oldest of 5 kids all spaced about a year apart. We wouldn't have lasted very long on the Appalachian Trail, although our family of 7 did make it all the way from St. Louis to Phoenix a few times all trapped together in a little Datsun. An achievement in itself I suppose. Plus my siblings and I got pretty good at dodging my mother's hand, which could strike at any moment from somewhere toward the front of the car . . . [added later] and I don’t blame her at all for trying to keep us in line!

    "The debatable utility of using trekking poles.." great line! I'll admit to being a bit ambivalent about the Crawfords in some respects, but admire their attitude towards family. Watching the video they posted that described government agents descending on them and threatening to remove the Crawford children from their own parents made my blood boil. At the end of the day, they're wonderfully eccentric in a lot of ways, and that's refreshing in a conformist, cookie cutter world. Good job highlighting their achievement on the trail with your video here, Evan.

    Serious question to you Evan as a lawyer...
    It seems that CPS who "interviewed" the family could have been seen as harassment, perhaps even false imprisonment, and even kidnapping... it seems child protective services get away with a great deal thst I dont believe they are legally authorized to. It seems they have ASSUMED certain authorities and legal roles that most people do not fight because of various circumstances, from economic to actual guilt, etc
    I'm looking for a strict legal answer, generalizing where there may be jurisdictional differences, definitely not trying to get a political opinion, like I may have just inadvertently given (yes I'm a socialist libertarian).
