    Been driving flatbed about the same amount of time. My advice is stick it out for a full year. Adverage your weekly pay then decide if its worth your while. I was in a good spot to get home but because i lived near the Delaware and Baltimore areas, i always got loads for monday that didnt pay well, and had long stretches to deliver on Sunday. So it was a struggle to make what the average TMC guy got. Then i did some research and found out local guys, eapecially tanker local guys, make bank, so for the best interest for my family i had to go local even though i loved doing flatbed.

      Are "premium" or "paid parking” options at truck stops worth it?

      @Joseph-fl8uw You can park the truck wherever it's legal and you have written permission to do so. Don't park anywhere where you'll get towed or booted. You'll have to pay the fee if the truck gets impounded.
      Premium parking is only worth it if you have no other options, are about to run out of hours on your clock, or live in an area that does not have reliable truck parking.

      I've been with TMC with 9 weeks of experience. Their training is militant and you can't walk on the grass at any terminal. They beat you upside the head with safety and have a lot of tests. They spend a ton of time and money into training you. Maybe they don't pay the most but you aren't going to be paid much better and with any other company and get this kind of training. TMC even has CDL classes.I for one am not going to use chains because if it the weather is bad enough to use chains you shouldn't be driving in it anyways if you ask me. I hear MacElroy does just as good with training too. The best thing to do is focus on building your skills more than the money for now.

    Make sure you keep those floor mats spit shined, huuuhhh!! Expect hard long labor intensive work next to driving… for free! Freight rates are in the toilet! As mentioned in the video, you have to keep your truck detailed. They don’t pay you for that. Any labor I Gotta do I Gotta be paid for I won’t do it. I run with my dog. I have a small dachshund and he is my buddy. I can’t have him in the truck. I guess I don’t drive for the company. On the note about tarp pay many companies pay one price for tarp in the truck but if you have multiple stops and you gotta keep removing and re-tarping the remaining load you don’t get paid extra for that. I worked for one company that paid $13 every time I move the tarp, but that was back in 2002. You will never know the exact cost to the truck. All companies hide that info and also do not pay you for all miles! Average is 12% less than you drive. Piece work sucks and truck drivers are often cheated one way or another. I work now hourly, with overtime, with bonuses every month. Freight loads and unloads itself, home every night, paid full on vacations, (currently 3 weeks a year) and home every day. Last year gross was $124k. This is the job you shoot for. 10 years OTR and I’m done. Good luck to everyone who is starting out.

    • @EruditeTrucker
      @EruditeTrucker  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We do drop and hook on preloaded trailers. Sometimes, you'll still have to still place your securement on the preloads. Other than that, you'll swap trailers and equipment with other drivers if you breakdown while loaded and are down for more than a day waiting for the repair.
      Lastly, you may swap loaded trailers, if you or another driver need to get home and the trade aims both of you in the direction of your homes.

    • @EruditeTrucker

    What does 33% translate to in dollars? Average pay on loads?

    • @EruditeTrucker
      @EruditeTrucker  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's difficult to say. Every driver's pay varies based on multiple factors, such as where you are in the country, the type of freight that you're picking up, the time of year, etc. Three drivers all getting paid at 33% but in different corners of the country could be earning different amounts of money.
      The annual average pay for a first year driver is about 65 - 70k based on company averages. You could make more or less your first year. As you get more efficient at the job earnings increase.
