I still think that Smart is the right coach for Marquette. He has already gotten the program back to the level where the team is expected to challenge for conference titles and stay ranked. Last season, the Golden Eagles were on fire but lost Kolek to an injury at a very inopportune moment; this season they had an offensive nightmare against a team that they had every opportunity to beat. Smart is going to have a hard time replacing Kolek but I think that he will keep Marquette relevant going forward. He just has to translate one of these high rankings into a deep tourney run at some point.

Hopefully, the National Title Appearances in April under Shaka Smart and bring it back to Marquette University badly!!!

Wolfpack fan here. Impressed by Shaka’s comments. Appreciated that he acknowledged that their opponent might have had something to do with the outcome - unlike the Oakland coach. Marquette’s in good hands

Too many NCAA tournaments exist for the Marquette Golden Eagles men's basketball. One of those years I want to see us win the National Title under Shaka Smart and bring it back to the Fiserv Forum really bad!!!!

If Rick Majerus had stayed at Marquette, I think the school would already have another national title banner. Smart is the best hire that Marquette has made since Majerus left eons ago and he definitely has a bit of Al McGuire's moxie in him.

Probably the worst shooting night we had all season, yet it still took NC St’s guards making some really tough shots late in the shot clock to stave us off. Really sad about today but proud of our team and where our program is headed.

Yup, 33% shooting and 4/31 from 3. So many open shots just did not fall and NC State did not play that tight of a defense. Sigh.

Yea the shots weren’t falling for a reason. Nc state was the more physical team and just the better team. Would happen 7-10 times easily

MU was #2 for a reason, beating Kansas, Illinois, Creighton and Texas along the way. This was just an extremely bad shooting night against a very hot team. Anyone can win one particular game; not many can win 27 games in a season.

NC State Fan here, that first question was the most ignorant and insensitive question that could have been asked after losing a game. "What legacy are you leaving behind?" Good Lord. That reporter was obviously a diversity hire.

4/31 on threes. MAny of them wide open. That's pretty much the story of the game.

Based on the official shot quality metrics for both teams, the most likely outcome was Marquette winning by double digits. Credit to NC State no doubt, but the Golden Eagles dug most of their own grave in this one. NC State's defense was pretty good but it clearly wasn't THAT good.

The VCU Card is over Shaka. You couldn't bring it to Texas or Marquette.

As a UConn alum, was rooting for them. What a bunch of frauds. Will never have an ounce of fear when playing these losers.

As a MUSOD grad of 1961, I would like to have them go further, but as in life everyone has a bad day. I am extremely proud of the team and sincerely believe coach Smart is a breath of fresh air bringing Marquette bb back in the forefront.
