Thanks for this video... last time I renewed my Passport was 10 years ago and sadly I can't recall how I've done it. I just know it wasn't this complicated! I can't remember having to create a profile but your video confirmed it that it has to be done. Sad to say I didn't finish, because my Mastercard won't get through, don't know why 🤷🏼♂ I have to go to the bank to solve the issue. I believe last time I just mailed the money together with the application and there was the amount required in Euros lol

thanks for the info, very helpful. For those renewing from the US the mailing address will be to the Passport Program in Gatineau Qc, full address will be listed on the renewal application form. Do not send to the nearest consulate/embassy in the US

Thanks a lot for this video, very helpful, in section C about Canadian Citizenship, section C asks to submit certificate of Canadian Citizenship original?, did you submit it, I am fine with submitting a copy of it, but not my original?
Hey! I just found your video, thank god. I am a Canadian expat in Italy and currently going through the steps to renew. I have a few things that are messing me up LIKE yes, it says I can be my own guarantor BUT that someone else must sign the last 4 boxes...so how does that work? And as for a piece of ID to support my identity, what can be used? Am I able to use a Canadian driver's licence? I don't have a lot over here with me. If anyone can help me out, that would be awesome.

Great vid. My daughter's passport expires in 4 months. She's 6. Her mom and have I recently divorced and we live in the Netherlands Antilles. This whole passport ordeal looks like it's really going to be a tough road being divorced.(all the divorce paperwork is in dutch). Is there any passport company that I can just pay to do all the hassle?

Great Informative Video! I'm about to embark on this process and have a quick question I'm hoping you can clear up. For my current home address, should I be putting my home address back in Canada, or my UK home address? Cheers.
For your home address, you should choose the address you currently live at - for me, that's my address in the UK. I live here. The address details don't show up in your passport either way.

Definitely renew it BEFORE it expires. Once it expires, you have to apply for a new one and that's way more difficult. I renewed mine about 2-3 months before it expired.

Hi is this video for me also? Like I had a Canadian passport when I was 6-7 so I had a child passport but it expired so now I'm an adult I need a new passport so should I apply for a new one? And does this video apply to me???

This only works if you have a valid Adult Canadian passport. If you don't have a passport, you need to apply for one which is a different process.
I am holding Canadian passport since I was adult which was issued in august 2015. The passport will expire in august 2025. And I have been living in Japan for last 6 years. I am assuming that I can apply for renewal of my passport before it expires. I used your "renew Canadian passport form link, it describes: The passport must have been issued in the last 15 years. I don't understand what exactly this mean.
On the other official Canadian website, it also says: You can only renew your Canadian passport if your last passport:
- was an adult passport that was issued
- when you were at least 16 years old and
- within 15 years of the date you apply for your renewal [New]
I am not sure, If I qualify for the renewal my passport instead of applying for fresh adult application. Would you mind commenting on it, please?
From my understanding, "If your passport was issued more than 15 years ago, you need to apply for a new passport." The old passports had different requirements. I think you would be fine to renew your passport - just make sure to do it before it expires.

Oh no! 😩 I've never been in that situation before, but you'd hope they'd contact you to send your passport rather than just out-right rejecting the application and making you start again. Fingers crossed for you!
How do you travel when you have sent in your passport for renewal???
You can't travel internationally until you hear back - thankfully mine only took 2 weeks.

If your passport has expired, you'll need to apply for a new one and cannot renew it. Also if you were a child before, (but aren't now) you'll need to apply for an Adult passport.
Hi! I am on a work visa in the UK from Canada and my passport expires April 28 2024. I am planning on going to Spain until January 16. Do you think I will be allowed back in the UK considering my passport expires in 4 months? I am trying to contact the Canadian embassy but nobody seems to give me an answer. Have you experienced this? Let me know!
Ahh that's really tricky. I've not been in this situation myself. If you got pulled aside at customs because your passport has less than 6 months, you could explain that you're about to renew it from the UK - they'd be able to see you have a UK work visa so it's obvious why you're coming to the UK. If it was me, I'd probably try but I can't say it would work out 😅
Sorry, that's a lie! Last time I came back to the UK from Canada my passport had less than 6 months (I think like 5 months left). Didn't have anyone question it.

Is it ok to go around a country without a passport?
What do you mean? If you're waiting for your passport to be renewed, you can still travel within that country but not abroad.
@introvertedexpat I just feel really exposed without my passport on me is all, so sending my old passport by post fills ne witb so much anxiety
Yeah I was worried, too. But send your passport to be renewed with tracking from the post office so you know that they've received it. I didn't travel while I waited to get mine back, mainly because I was working but I also didn't want my new passport left in my mailbox when it was sent back.

thank you for the reply so just your old passport the forms and 2 passport picture? no copy of the birth certificate or other picture Canadian ID, sorry for the hassle just so much different info out there @@introvertedexpat
