    Hello friends! Yes, There are so many ways to flag and in this video we are focused on one type of flagging just to keep it simple and get the hang of it. Note, this will help SO MUCH when climbing overhang ;) Love you guys and have a good day!

    This is an amazing training video for a new climber. I love to see your videos that speak to new climbers. We all have to start somewhere! And I'm having trouble finding people who can teach at my gym. So, I'm learning by watching more than anything. You are a very good teacher!!!!!! Excellent style in teaching. Love that you show both what NOT to do compared with what TO do. Thank you so much!

    Excellent. That does make a lot of sense for me as a beginner. If I have my foot underneath me, that's my pivot point and also the point where most of my weight it being supported. If I reach out with my left hand, then I am taking my weight left which means I'm tilting off my foot hold. If I reach out left but counterbalance with my right, then my centre is still over my hold and I'm not tilting off my foot hold.
    Then if I smear as well, the fact I'm not perfectly balanced over my foot hold won't matter as much.
    And if I rotate my hips to bring body closer to the wall, I am a little closer to being over my foothold, although on an overhang you can't actually get your force directly onto your foothold.
    Excellent stuff. I need to take a notebook in my climbing bag now so I can remind myself. I always forget once I'm on the wall.

    Very good explanation for beginners. I was anticipating for you to also mention what activates your hips to come closer too the walk. Which is a crucial point to add. The drop knee! You have visually show this, but also mentioning it would also make a difference for beginners to grasp the whole hip rotation. The drop knee must also be used with caution due to injuries. Warming up your legs/knees properly before attempting any drop knees is a smart thing to also practice.

    With all the positive feedback you are getting from newish climbers, it might help if you created a video where you demonstrate the difference between flagging in backstep (demonstrated here) and flagging with hips square to the wall (toes and knees turned out). You may have already done this. Learning a lot from your videos, thank you for taking the time to create them!

    great video. when you were explaining flagging on the wrong side, it's more about balancing center of gravity to prevent barn dooring, rather than the smear stopping you. your stable axis is on the right side because only your right hand/foot hold you to the wall, your body weight is dangling on the left side, so the barn door occurs because left side wants to move towards the stable axis

    • @rockentry
      @rockentry  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! Agree it's more about balancing center of gravity to prevent barn door. I could flag the same direction I'm reaching and get to my hold but it wont be as controlled as if i had flagged out on the right side, in this case. But I do agree sometimes you could flag same direction but all depends on hold position/type and footwork, where is your center of gravity etc...
      Great point, thank you!

      @tristanreid 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rockentry Speaking of balancing: there's a yellow V5 at the back of Cliffs of Id right now, kind of walking sideways, low to the ground at first. It has some balancing components that I'm struggling with. When I try to hug the wall and move, I fall away. I try to go very slowly, but I still fall back from the wall. I'm wondering how I can build my sense of balance, or maybe learn some techniques for handling this better?

    • @rockentry
      @rockentry  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd have to check out that problem but when it comes to balancing it is all about patience and slowly stepping or reaching for the next hold. Body position is very important as well depending on the situation. Here is a video I did in the pass hopefully it helps you, I hug the wall on this one too hehehe

      Let me know how it goes! remember keep the climb simple and focus on working the flagging technique, go up and down the climb. Good luck my friend!

    Hey Os! Great flagging advice, you should make a video on how to use the system board, or the training room in general! Is there an app for made up routes or do you just design them as you go? Tips and tricks would be much appreciated for training board newbies like myself!

      I did start working on the system board and it wouldn't be a bad idea to share some tips, great suggestion. I usually just design my own routes for training on certain moves that fit a project I'm working on. I'm sure there is an APP where you could make up routes ill just have to look into it. Thanks for the suggestion William, I'll see what I could do!
