It's hard to believe Yume 2kki is my favorite game of all time. I've played through classic RPGs like EarthBound and Chrono Trigger, experienced critically acclaimed masterpieces like Symphony of the Night and Super Mario RPG, and my favorite game is a fangame to an already niche horror title.
How exactly does 2kki differ from the original? I tried playing Yuumi Nikki a few years ago and spent hours just walking around confusing environments with absolutely no goal or direction. I hate the feeling of bumbling around in circles waiting for something to happen. It's perfectly possible this game just isn't for me, but I love the RPG maker style, and some of them, like Hello Charlotte, are my favorite games of all time.
@@OperatorError0919 it's the same gameplay. unlike games like Hello Charlotte, a game which i thought was dope, it doesn't really have direction. The whole wonder to it is just getting lost and lost in this massive world and just exploring like crazy. I've spent my Sunday morning doing a long walk. I love wandering around aimlessly while looking at my surroundings, thinking about stuff, enjoying the moment... This time, I've done it while listening to this entire playlist. With the calmness, the silence due to doing this early on a Sunday morning, it most certainly made this a nice experience. It made me feel at peace... There's still stuff going on in my life around me, but that moment, those hours of walking with this playlist in my ears... Those were my little adventure in my own little world, away from everything around me. Even though it was just for a little while... that felt good :)
yume 2kki is such a crowning achievement. a project made by a bunch of completely separate, independent creators that comes together as a cohesive whole. a fan project that in my opinion transcends the original in scope and quality. for me yume 2kki shows how one of the most compelling parts of videogames as a medium isn't even gameplay, but the ability to create spaces that a player can explore and have agency in, immersing themselves in an alternate world. the gameplay systems in 2kki are paper thin, but it doesn't matter, because the environments and music ARE the game, and deeply immerse the player.
The very first song man, at first it made me uncomfortable cause you're usually alone in dreams, then I began to love it cause that very same feeling became cozy somehow...
God... this is such a good freaking mix. I love everything about it, especially when the picture becomes underwater-esque. It's such a fever dream of a feeling to wake up to that part of the video when I fell asleep in the gloomy, grey & rainy terrain.

Thanks for taking the time to put these all together, and thank you to all the talented creators who made these songs!
