Thanks for the tour Mitch! I'm very much looking forward to upcoming updates and learning more about the lodge. Having flown helicopters I'm curious who's going to use the helipad, is going to be air-taxi, private or emergency use? Also, I would be interested to know the elevation and if you have a clear approach from down the river or if you might have to clear some trees? It's usually preferable and safer to make a level approach rather than a vertical descent and departure. Cheers!

Thanks for the interest! The helipad is for all those purposes, as we've offered the local authorities the opportunity to use the facility for medical evacuations (MEDIVACs). We see the possibility that future electric aircraft (vertical or short take off) can be accommodated for transfers from/to the airport, or scenic flights for guests. As for the approach, that's been designed as a Point-in-Space (PiS) instrument flight procedure compliant with PANS OPS international standards to an Annex 14 compliant pad. And yes, the trees have been trimmed to ensure a clear approach from the direction of the Areni village. In summary, the approach will hopefully be as close to 3 degrees as possible, but of course we need to have the design validated.

I'm not instrument rated n rotor-craft and not personally familiar with current helicopter Instrument approach systems and procedures but used work in the Oil and Gas Industry a long time ago and had some experience setting up MLS systems on offshore platforms and remote facilities, and a few MLS approaches as a passenger in 412s, and I would expect that today, rotor-craft GPS approaches would be a fit for your location. I'll have a look on google earth to get a sense of the area and, if there's an airstrip nearby. I've been watching e-VTOL developments, and having worked in electrical systems, electronics and FAA aircraft certification, It's fascinating to see where the e-VTOL industry is, and is not going. In the U.S. at least, the certification cost associated with even a conventional aircraft design are restrictive for most large corporations, and prohibitive for start-ups and mid-sized companies. I worked on Burt Rutan air-taxi design certification project years ago and the original FAA estimate for their portion of certification of 8 million dollars quickly ballooned to 20 million and up from there, several times the aircraft design and production costs. That design was pretty conventional and had a flying prototype with flight test data, so from from a certification standpoint, I expect it's going to take some pretty deep pockets and time before we see certified e-VTOL passenger aircraft. Getting commercial heliports approved in the U.S. is also pretty tough, largely due to noise and risk footprint of Heliports, but VSTOL airports might be easier to approve as VSTOL aircraft can have a much lower noise footprint than VTOL. I've been talking with some friends in the aircraft industry about some hybrid fuel-electric VSTOL concepts that could offer good payload, range and speed at lower cost of acquisition and operational cost than VTOL, but as with VTOL the hurdle is not so much technical but regulatory. If you have time I'd much appreciate your take on such things, and if e-VTOL certification might be something more feasible outside the U.S. and EU, possibly in Australia, NZ or Asia and your background in Aviation? I've spent time in Australia and Asia and looking to again escape the U.S. and been looking into Armenia, Georgia and Turkey from an ex-pat and business standpoint and find you and Mitch's videos and work there interesting and informative.
