Looks like a great kit, I've ordered two. :)
For your information - The Panzer III has six road wheels, and the Panzer IV has eight road wheels, so road wheels divided by two is the type. Alternativly if you look at the Idler wheels above the road wheels (they support the track at the top) there are three on the Panzer III, and four on the Panzer IV, so that saves doing the math. :)

Great review as ever. The whole boxed set is about the same price as the M3 Stuart Company alone. It's incredible value. Perfect as US vs German, and even better if you pick it up after Tobruk to make more British vs German & Italian. Great set, worth buying several copies of it either way, as it comes with all options for all the tanks.

This also works as a British v German starter if you want to go full lend lease.

For the British you get bits to build the Grant and Honey (Stuart), and the M4A1 Shermans. :)

Always an unbelievable deal to get this set! I unfortunately got mine with the 5cm German guns in the light tan color and the plastic was super-brittle. Some of the parts were already broken but I was able to glue them with no issue. Unlike the Bulge American where the airborne minis were 70% broken off the sprues (had to super glue several legs and bodies back together), so be warned when buying the Bulge American starter set, but it's well worth it and Battlefront will replace any broken models.

Difference between Panzer III and Panzer IV: count the number of return rolers. That is the Panzer version.
Unless you have a Panzer IV -J, but those are only in super-late war.

I thought the trick was count the road wheels and divide by 2..

This seems like a great starter box to me. I know a lot of experienced players have complained about not having infantry, but maybe for someone new to the hobby infantry and artillery should come later. There should be infantry in other force box, but they are listed as tank/panzer company boxes. I think they haven't come out with dedicated DAK or Desert Rats infantry figures yet.

They do have some DAK Infantry, GE746 is the code. Not sure on the Desert Rats but pretty sure they have a set as well. These are most likely the old metal range but still great looking sculpts.

@@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall Thanks for your reply. I'll have to check out those models. It seems all of their starter boxes are plastic only. Maybe they would have to charge a lot more to include metal figures.

that they risk to burn potential new players by not including decals that cost pennys is really putting me off. Why would they show the completly labled up tanks on the box when they didnt intend to add any decals? I´m not sure if they did themself any favores on that

  • @durzod2052

Not including decals in this set when they do in the Tobruk set is a bit odd. It could be that they're out of stock for the mid-war US and diudn't want to put in just the Germans. If they'd put in a voucher for the decals when they become available it would've assuaged some hurt feelings.
With production lead times, they may have intended to include decals when they took the box photos and didn't have time to re-shoot with naked tanks (not to mention that they'd have to come up with assembled and painted models).
Usually Battlefront does a better job. Doesn't mean that the box isn't worth getting.

Mine came with the US "Lee" in the plastic British color. Very strange..

It's the same kit and the color of the plastic doesn't really matter once you paint them up. Some years ago I ordered plastic M113s for Nam and they sent me some Arab-Israeli era M113s along with the Nam vehicle crewman sprue. They tossed in a little paper saying that it was the same kit. I later got some Nam M113s and they were right. It literally was the same sprue, but in a different color of plastic. That's just something that they do- they are pretty strategic in what plastic kits they make so they can open a large number of options for future sales.

I really think its kinda stupid. Why would you release a set without decals, knowing full well that your customers cant even get them seperatly. Its a bit of a joke to be honest and I as a new player feel kinda scamed by that because the backsite of the box all the tanks completly labled up. And risking that for a cent product is kind of stupid. I´m really put off by that

Yes it is a panzer 3 … the easiest way to tell the difference is the road wheels 2X model # = model … panzer 3 has 6 road wheels… panzer 4 has 8 road wheels

If you use the units that are shown on box, the points are 74 German and 58 American?

    • @AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall

I guess it depends on what factions are your favorite. In midwar. I like US the best so kasserine pass is a no-brainer.
