Dwayne Johnson can be a ranged character, but it comes down to a few things. If he was given the role of a character that was fully fleshed out instead of one dimensional to begin with is key. In a Marvel Studios movie, he is unlikely to have as much sway over how his character is portrayed, so if his vision typically results in one note, that wouldn't work under Feige (unless he's chosen to play a one-note character- which again, would have nothing to do with his production clout). It's not like he's the story writer or director, so in an environment as tight as this, any input or assurances about how a character he plays comes across would have to yield to the movie's vision, or he'd have to step out of the role - which really means, if those things clash, they'd almost know that going in and prevent it from ever being the case of him having the role anyway. I'd never worry about the Rock being in the MCU, but I do think people would be crazy if they thought he'd ever be a consideration for characters that are Doom-caliber.
I think Mahershala is holding this film up, for some type of quality reason. Based on how he’s spoken on the project, it wouldn’t surprise me if he had the most creative control in this scenario. Whether that’s good or bad, we’ll have to see.
Possession (1981) is a truly perverse and unsettling nightmare. Isabelle Adjani, for me, gives one of the rawest performances by a woman on screen. It's comparable to Charlotte Gainsbourg in Antichrist (2009). Glad that the film is still recognized today, but sceptical if a remake could ascend to those heights
I’m sorry Jeff but HOW MUCH MORE FUCKING TIME DOES BLADE NEED it’s been in the ‘oven’ for FIVE YEARS NOW, DO WE NEED ANOTHER FIVE YEARS ON TOP OF THAT that’s a tone deaf take
I like the Ti West pick for Blade, especially because he's already worked with Mia Goth, who is supposed to be in this movie as well. If she hasn't already silently bowed out as well or is planning to. 🤔
Athither film podcast speculated that Marvel was holding out for the John Wick director for Blade I think. I may be wrong but I thought that’s what I heard.
I think that 1944 synopsis is intentionally misleading. I think 1944 is going to be the direct sequel series to 1923 with Matthew Mcconaughey playing the older version of Jack Dutton (Nephew) and Kurt Russell playing the older version of his uncle Spencer Dutton. That was my initial speculation. It's only a 20 year difference in time and based on that timeline in the Yellowstone universe there isn't enough time for a "new" PATRIACH of the Dutton family to arise because they already exist as Jack & Spencer.
There aren't many "superheros" left in the Marvel catalog that haven't already been cast or that would fit Dwayne Johnson. There are some villains though. The Rock would make a great Apocalypse in the MCU, like the older-final version of himself not the young teenage version. I could see him playing a villain to the X-Men in future movies. As far as Star Wars, he would make a great muscle-bound alien, put prosthetics on him with some CGI and he won't even look like himself but definitely not a Jedi, he doesn't have that vibe but you could absolutely cast him as a random alien.
Black Gambit is pretty funny john, lol (could alternatively have gone for black Black Adam ha). I am confused how they are throwing away (quote unquote) the newest blade script but they just hired *the* *same* *guy* to write midnight sons (i can't remember if officially or rumoured but lets assume its validity for now)? What a... bizarre thing Also I am starting to have a long term prediction, i think we are going to see a whalberg in uncharted situation where I'm gonna guess Ali is going to end up playing Whistler and they bring in a younger actor for blade himself. No guarantee, of course, but i could see it happening.. EDIT: Totally happy if we have some black talent behind the camera for blade but quick reminder that chad stahelski threw his hat in the ring would be an easy win. (EDITED AGAIN actually brought up later in the episode; also reminder, as you john also brought up, it's Ghost of Tsushima that chad is directing *that* as well)
@@JohnRochaSaysfair (though does feel like we are about to get some level of channing tatum in deadpool 3 which... eh, i'm not really excited about, but whatever [I'd rather just get a real cajun gambit at this point and paired up with a Rogue, that's what I want]).
1:02:35 John... You think she was "running away from him"?... I think you need to watch that CCTV footage again. It was the opposite of that the WHOLE time. The whole entire time. He got convicted because she was relentlessly pursuing him and he finally turned around and tried to physically place her back in the car after several times trying to run away from her, and when he did that, she hit her head. He wasn't in the right, but she was DEFINITELY NOT running away from him.
I can't wait for Cavill Highlander directed by Stahelski!!
Horrible idea Dwayne Johnson in the MCU. He will come as a one dimensional character
So are most of vilains in the MCU anyway

That theme is sick. Let it run longer.
I just rewatched Deadpool and I think Tim Miller could crush a Blade movie.
Jeff pulling out Mario Kart got me good too

I actually really like the Gina Prince-Bythewood pick for Blade !!
JOHHHHNNNNNYYYY BOIIIIII
Need some time stamps.
You'll get them when I'm ready and I eat dinner and relax for a bit. Until then, you'll have to be patient with your demand.
No, you don’t need some time stamps, you *WANT* so time stamps… big difference 👌🙃
Rick Famuyiwa is right there to direct Blade
My first son was born on 10/272004, the same day the Sox broks the curse.
I like the Ti West pick for Blade, especially because he's already worked with Mia Goth, who is supposed to be in this movie as well.

🤔
I feel like Ti is the kinda guy who would not handle notes, I can't really see that working out.
The Rock has no business playing Doom. Or Apocalypse. Or any major MCU role. Smaller supporting roles only.
Thanks!

At this point, if I'm Mahershala I make an ultimatum - get Peele or I walk.
That's a good point. Yeah if I was him I'd put in a special request for Peele.
Rock is looking for a home for Doc Savage

thanks for a great show!
Another fun show!
Michael giaccanno (not sure if I spelled that right) but he killed werewolf by night. Have him compose it to, he my favorite composer right now.
What about Ready Player One? Spielberg directed that one. Not considered Live action?
That was March

Who even is a box office pull bigger than Emily Blunt? Spielbergs last films flopped.
Although Spike Lee would be amazing if for no other reason than it would be different which I think is one of the things Marvel needs to survive.
I could see Dwayne as a droid or alien in Star Wars. But yeah, definitely can't see him as a human. Maaaybe as something like Danny Trejo's character.
Prohibition was in the 20's.
People misspeak in life, bud. It’s okay.
I'm fine with no Michael Bay in Marvel or DC. Or Star Wars, for that matter.
How tf is BFG animated lol
The bloody sock dominates!! Fuck the Yankees!! Love you John. 😁😁😁

Black Adam actually got made. It can't apply here. Haha But I do take your other points.

Not excited about the new Crow at all. And I fucking looooove the original.
