Agreed. Great story. Good candidate for a series. Nice set of characters. Awesome ugly ship that gets made fun of at every port. The reputation the crew builds with the "ugly ship" despite having good salvage runs. And with each story the crew discovers more and more about how the ship operates. I hope there's more. Thank you!
It dawns on me that they also have pirate boarders trapped onboard. Maybe these can be traded in for bounty somewhere. It could also be possible to reform some of them into joining the crew.
This one Really needs a sequel- hell maybe even a whole series! I loved this story because of the characters reactions to the ship once they realized why it looked the way it did!
Holy shit, I just realized that ship is human. "Four Gas Giants" are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, "Scarred red planet" is either Mars or Earth, "Giant red star" is the sun some million years into the future. Its an ancient human warship.
What a brilliant story. Entertaining, surprising and with a good flowing line. The narration was top notch as all the crew had their own particular accent. You have to have a sequel or series PLEASE!
Considering it's self defense this ship seems to be somewhat aware of it's surroundings; I'd ease up on the calling it ugly... Awareness doesn't imply mood but better safe than sorry, y'know?
Notice how it let the junk dealers onboard but reacted to the pirates with hostility? It is like the ship wanted a new crew but it does have certain standards that they would have to meet. It is possible it would flat out refuse to become a pirate ship.
oh im really enjoying the increase in quality and display of the story even just a few minutes in , voice effects sound effects background noise, really gets you immersed ontop of fantastic VA work. the only thing i could say that would top this production quality is simply having multiple VAs that could dedicate to single characters (not to undersell the talent to be able to do multiple characters side by side that sound distinct enough). just my personal thoughts it would be really awesome to listen to a cast of the starbound VAs in one project hell even series
Good story. Gave it a thumbs up. But I notice most of the pictures don't match the narrative in these stories. Multiple arms. Compound eyes. Mandibles. And what is the narrators name? I like him! Good story teller!
Hi guys! Love the channel, love the narrators. Just want to ask one thing do you plan to write stories too? It would be cool to listen your own stories.
And it has some free pirates wandering around inside its contents :D Anyhoo, I built a machine like this, so I fully relate. It’s a good machine, bits sticking out everywhere to do something last week, something now and some wiggle room for that unforeseen task next week.
37:26 Rippers on a Ship-sized scale?! Yeeks... Quite the nightmare of a Warship. Gotta say, the ship certainly feels like a Razgriz. I mean, it was a ship built for War, and had clearly been put into a deep slumber, likely after the last war it was involved with had ended... And considering it's raw power and prowess, it was likely quite the terror to those it faced, a demon that brought destruction and fear to all who met it. And once it awoke from it's slumber, it was not as a demon... But as a Hero.
Is cosmic"weathering" a thing? "It's been exposed to vacuum too long, the molecular structure is completely degraded". Exactly how does a vacuum degrade molecular structure? No corrosive gases in a vacuum, in space, any corrosive liquid would be frozen and hey, refer to no corrosive gases in a vacuum again. Blithely throwing out a statement that is false is bad writing. Sorry, in spite of the stellar narration, the story is too flawed to continue and I'm 4:22 into it. Catch you on the next one. Get some writers who at have a basic understanding of the natural laws of everyday physics and chemistry.
Yes "cosmic weathering" is a thing. Even in space you have the effects of radiation (this would actually be drastically increased in space as there would be no atmosphere or magnetic field for protection)and even very small particles can cause weathering effects over a long enough period of time. Even if an astroid disintegrated before hitting directly the smaller particles would have a massive velocity difference. Great question though!!
Too bad that you don't have a basic understanding. Space, while seeming to be empty, is not truly empty. Our scientists understand that. Space is full of microscopic particles. Dust. Pushed and pulled by solar winds and planetary gravitation, hard radiation from the red giant, even atoms of hydrogen and oxygen that would combine to form water molecules on the metallic surfaces. Ice, even though it's frozen, is still corrosive, and the stellar dust is abrasive. The decomposition is much slower in space, but, given a million years to do it's work, it will get there. The spaceship? As long as it's power source continues to function, with it's automated self repair and an entire asteroid belt plus a debris field to scavenge the raw material from, it'll just keep repairing itself until the power finally gives out. I'll give you a hint. Ask the question, "is space really empty"?
A vacuum doesn’t mean empty. It means without an atmosphere. Space is filled with 1 trillion elements per square meter. Though molecules from simple to complex are less than 10. Unless you are in a dense asteroid field like in the story. Then you would have millions of molecules per square meter. Stellar weathering results from these particulates combined with radiation, solar flares ejecting plasma and matter at the speed of light and coronal mass ejections spewing billions of tons of energy and matter at speeds of 100-1000 kilometers per second. All of this over time will degrade molecular structures.
Another outstanding story! 👍😁 Narrated to perfection, with an insightful moral. Well worth 5 stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Good story, and a very strong candidate for a sequel. I'd be eager to learn what happens next, to the salvage crew and their Ugly Duckling!
Parts 2 through 5?
Don't stop. Thisssssss, has potential.

Another story that definitely makes a good candidate for a sequel that makes 4 of them now.
This one Really needs a sequel- hell maybe even a whole series!

Yup
love your increased use of background and voice effects, really adds to the atmosphere
We definitely need a sequel look into this story or even an entire series
"The Ugly Duckling" series or something.
What a brilliant story. Entertaining, surprising and with a good flowing line. The narration was top notch as all the crew had their own particular accent. You have to have a sequel or series PLEASE!
Call it the ugly duckling series
I hope this gets a sequel.
Very enjoyable. And I agree with others would be a good candidate for a follow on story.
For their line of work this ship is a perfect match.
Yes lets gooo, this guy is great!!!
Good story! Thanks.
About a thirdthrough and I'm getting mad on behalf of that ship. Sounds like my car; Aesthetically broken but what needs to work works
Considering it's self defense this ship seems to be somewhat aware of it's surroundings;
I'd ease up on the calling it ugly...
Awareness doesn't imply mood but better safe than sorry, y'know?

It likes the wildly varying salvage crew. Like itself they are functional, not designed for aesthetic nicety.
Great Story, thanks Starbound... Good for afterwork when you dont want to think about work...
Brilliant concept..and perfectly narrated as usual, already listened a second time. Would make a wonderful series ..hint hint !! 11/10

One of the best stories I’ve heard lately
Thanks for sharing, I enjoy your stories.
Less disco ball; more support beam. That's the makings of a lasting workhorse.
Was half expecting the ship to be called the Prometheus.
Good story! I hope their story becomes a regular to this channel!
This needs to be a series
excellent story, loved it, Thank you.
A good story. Well read.
Plix’s voice stops being synthetic half the time XD

Captain! How can I do anything? My f-f-f-fingers keep getting added and deleted, and, LOOK! Those two are backwards!
I like the picture of the earth ship, with the :-) that's a funny one, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi guys! Love the channel, love the narrators. Just want to ask one thing do you plan to write stories too? It would be cool to listen your own stories.
All the stories on Starbound are original and are written by us :)
@ that is great to hear. Now I am even more happy and proud to be a member.
And it has some free pirates wandering around inside its contents :D Anyhoo, I built a machine like this, so I fully relate. It’s a good machine, bits sticking out everywhere to do something last week, something now and some wiggle room for that unforeseen task next week.
I love the little detail of that echo filter for the robot's voice.
Strange how aliens wouldn’t get the concept of ultra utilitarian design with redundancy ok maybe not utilitarian, but it is fairly utilitarian
12:38 sorry, do the alien salvagers have cultural ocd?
37:26 Rippers on a Ship-sized scale?! Yeeks... Quite the nightmare of a Warship.

You needed to mention what happened to the pirated that had successfully boarded the UEF spaceship. An ugly failure.
the uss donut lol
hehe
Potential spa opera.
THIS! All Hail King Julien it isn't always pretty ..
The ship sounds like my stellaris fleets.
When I hear “Vrax” I think of Warhammer 40K,…. That’s all. Carry on, y’all.
Niece story one question when we get next freren story
SEQUEL
You should be ashamed of yourselves. How dare you put out a story like this without a link to the further adventures of this crew.
:P
Swiss Army Knives are not sleek or elegant.

Ah yes, the person who drops things because they didn't use the 30 seconds it takes to google it.
This ship looks familiar ( where did l see it)
Did the humans go extinct in this universe
Could be human ship?🤔
United Earth Force
Good story...cut out the They/Them bullshit though.
