The YAO are nice and makes great neighbors. Hmoob are more shy but has big heart once you get to know them. Very similar culture for both people.

People in the U.S. is not friendly like this because if you are too nice and let people come around eventually someone will take advantage of you and use you or steal from you. So people in the U.S. are more protective than friendly. In tight communities may be different though.

New viewer here. Old man in North Carolina. Thanks for sharing the beautiful people of Laos. Am much more interested in the people of country and villages than the cities.
I'm living in a town for the first time in 30 years and miss the countryside.
Both of you have good hearts.

I love how the mothers looked happy when you offered to give their kids clothes. So many smiles.
And the business leader of the ladies told you there were 2 kids sleeping and took the jumpers.
You could have got a pullet out of the deal if NeeNee had just said "thanks" and taken it to the truck.
Looking forward to the pig video. I love pork.

Christmas came 2 months early. Thank you for all the gifts to the villagers. When the woman invited you back for the New Year, she was telling you about "ball tossing", which is a traditional way for Hmong young people to meet one another and part of the courtship for marriage.

I watched a video from someone else who filmed a Hmong festival in California (I think it was in San Fransico) and asked about the ball-tossing thing. I never got an answer about what was going on and why so many women were tossing balls around. I thought it had something to do with courtship but, wasn't sure about it. 👍

So glad you got to visit the Yaos of Laos (known as “Mien” in the states). The ladies are sewing (hand stitched, tapestry) traditional clothing used for special occasions & are very pricey due to demand, rarity, labor & time put in making them.
