I was told hula with grass skirts is not true Hawaiian hula. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

the skirts you see them wearing are ti leaf... lau ki... or la'i skirts... with the big leaves shredded... it's very hawaiian.

The dancers are interpreting the chant. That's also very Hawaiian. Their costumes and adornments, too, as mentioned just upthread.
