I just want to tell you that you are my favorite UK vlogger! (I’m in the US). I watch several vloggers from around the world, and I usually watch yours before anyone else’s
Hi Ruan. You are such a lovely person which really comes over in your vlogs. You have a lot of common sense which also comes across. Your life is busy but a lovely one with family at its core. You’ve really inspired me to sew in small chunks like this as haven’t much time at the moment. I think you do really well to do as much as you do with work, the family and your vlog. You cheer me up no end if I’m feeling less than and you make me laugh. I love the theatre too. We’re going to see ‘Ballet Shoes’ at the National on the 19th. I read the book as a child and ballet is another love. Well done Ruan 😊
Sewing with sequins… I used to make costumes - some advice : sew in the direction of the sequins (so they lie flat). If you need to remove sequins in the seams do so. Or bind the seams. Or both. If the sequins are sewn on in continuous stitching, tie the ends together if you remove the sequins, or use glue/fray check. Try to avoid sequins in the armscye or crotch area, as they rub on each other and you too.
What a beautiful venue! Thanks for panning up and around to show us. Dinner looked wonderful too. Cute fabrics for future projects. If you make a skirt from your silver sparkles and then wear a top in one of your colours it will work just fine... next year😊
@theyorkshiresewgirl you could always do a dress with a waist seam and use two different fabrics. A bright red velvet top part and glittery bottom would be awesome. Even just a colorful yoke or neckline would be fab.
Talking about the theatre took me back to pre retirement days when my hubby and I would go fairly regularly and I miss it. Hey ho mustn’t complain as we are not exactly impoverished - just need to select our luxuries carefully these days😅😅😅. Enjoy your trip with your son- very special times. Loved the shots of Leeds - many years since I was a regular visitor (part of my job) but always loved it - and the theatre looked wonderful. Thanks for sharing. 😊 Lynne
What a lovely evening! The theater is stunning. I have season tickets to the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle, Washington. It is an old (by Seattle standards) refurbished theater. It is beautiful, but the theater in Leeds surpasses it.
Your Mia dress is beautiful! Lovely fabric-you may want to save a killed me label for the sequins. Haven’t sewn with sequin fabric, but have heard about it being tricky. Looks like such a lovely evening out. Happy day 10, Ruan.
Oh I really need that killed me label! I’ve just finished the 4th toile of the Sew Different Tulip dress as I’m across a few sizes🤪 Your Mia is looking lovely and your fabrics are fab😍
I agree you are my favourite blogger as well. I was also brought up in a service family. We moved back to the North West when I was in my teens. Eventually I met my husband but lack of work in the area he joined the RAF so I have also had my adult life in the forces. We live a couple of hundred.miles from family and friends. But my children and grandchildren are here so this is where we stay. So I understand about distance friends. Leeds is so big. Living in the countryside in a small village we are only used to market towns, which are basically mini towns, so cities would actually be too overwhelming for me. But nice to see via your blogs. Xx
Today's my birthday & it's off to a good start.i had to laugh when you said its you that needs the needle threader, I apologise to my late mum every time I try to take the top of a bottle of bleach😂. Great Video Ruan, thank you.
AHH the theater. We moved away from Stratford Ontario 11 years ago. I miss going to the Shakespearean Festival. Our neighbor there worked as a set designer and would give us a free pair of tickets at least once a year. It was the only way we could go financially. Those were the days.
A fab vlog . You pack so much into your day Ruan ❤. Ha ha my head torch is a winner in my dark sewing room 🤣. I sewed lots of sequins in my Irish dance dress making days . My only advice is to not use your overlocker . Binding your seams is a good way to limit the scratch! I’m still traumatised by our overlocker at work getting damaged by sequins .. & they go everywhere , I used to find them in the shower .
I love the theatre too- we’ve got 3 children and it makes me sad that it’s so expensive! Need a second mortgage for all 5 of us to go 😢 I’ve just bought tickets for Hamilton for me and my eldest to go next year. 🎉
I am exactly the same - when you're buying for all of you its extortionate! I save up each year so we can book the pantomime every year but it still makes my eyes water when I press the button to buy!
That's too funny Ruan - you are saving to come to the US and I'm saving to come to the UK! We could just swap houses like in that Cameron Diaz Christmas movie! Lol, except I don't live in a gorgeous big LA home and I'm already married, so I wouldn't meet 'your brother' and fall in love. Haha What a gorgeous theatre for the musical! Could you please remind me again what the dress pattern was that you used for the black dress? I'm making a dress for my best friend and I think this would also look amazing on her. Thank you!
As a girl whose Dad was in’t Royal Navy and who married a chap from the Royal Air Force, and then a Police officer, I know exactly where ,you are coming from with a scattered group of friends!!! But I’m sure, like me, whenever you see them you just pick up where you left off!!! 🐾🐾

This really made me smile - thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind words - they mean a lot. Enjoy your show 🤩
That head action when you’re feeling your packages just cracks me up 😂😂
🤣🙈
I love it when you walk around England! Looks like a great production too. Yayyyy..your dress has sleeves. Fun new fabrics as well.😊

Thank you so much - that's really helpful x
What a beautiful theatre! Looks like a wonderful birthday outing, good job mum and dad.
Thanks honey - was so nice to spend time with my eldest in a more grown up setting 🤩
That restaurant looked fun and the food 🤌. Thanks for sharing your evening. 💙🌈🧶🍓
Ooh it was so lovely - a restaurant that has been there for years so you know it's good!
Love snowflake fabric 😊
It's cute isn't it!
Haha! I feel like you now have enough labels to patchwork them all into a Jarrah sweatshirt 🤣
Best comment I've read today 🤣
You ask Bec. She makes a jumpsuit of the same velvet/sinqouin texstile.
Hope you have had a nice evening with your two boys in Leeds.
Love from Norway
Thank you lovely xx
What a beautiful theatre, I love visiting Leeds. Your M&S is fabulous, I'm so envious as ours is very small
It really is a lovely theatre 🤩

That's such a good idea for the skirt! I don't really wear skirts but maybe I need to experiment!

I used to work at M & S in my teenage years , here in Canada.
The Christmas baking was wonderful.
So cool!
What a beautiful theatre.
I really is!
Wow what an awesome theater, love the dress, can't wait to see you wear it.
Thanks so much x

I know exactly what you mean Lynne - the prices are crazy expensive these days!

Oooh that sounds lovely though!
Great vlog!
Thank you!!
Super, thanks Ruan. Hope you all enjoyed your evening. x
We really did thank you 🤩

Thanks lovely - yes I'm a bit scared of sequins 🤣
Oh I really need that killed me label! I’ve just finished the 4th toile of the Sew Different Tulip dress as I’m across a few sizes🤪 Your Mia is looking lovely and your fabrics are fab😍
Ooh - hope the toiles are helping you get it just right 🤗
Your dress is looking fab Ruan 👌... Your going to look a knock out 🖤. What a beautiful venue that was and to see Bad... very envious 🙏😁🥰
Thank you so much lovely xx
Sequins and needles 🤪

Oh thank you!!! Yes I do love going into Leeds but I don't think city life is for me!
Dress looks great Ruan ….I just love Leeds …💞
Thanks so much xx
Loving you sharing your advent calendar with us. When do they go on sale x
I think it differs for each of them - I bought the KATM one back in August x
Today's my birthday & it's off to a good start.i had to laugh when you said its you that needs the needle threader, I apologise to my late mum every time I try to take the top of a bottle of bleach😂.

Ha ha - not just me then!

Ooh ok - thanks for the tips lovely!
I haven’t seen with sequins yet either! I do have some in my stash. It scares me 😂
Dee has seen with sequins a few times with great success 🎄
Blooming auto correct - sewn not seen 🙈
Yes I was chatting to Dee about this fabric before I bought it!
Congratulations on your productive day. I really love your new fabrics, and silver is my preference over gold, just saying.... ❤ 😂 🇦🇺
Thank you so much!

Great vlog as always hasn’t Becs just made a jumpsuit in that fabric? ❤❤
Yes it does look like the same fabric but from different shops!
Your definitely gonna win the competition 😂
Ha ha - mine's done ✅
🎄❤️
🙂
Becs from what Becs sew say that sequin fabric is scratchy so it might be worth lining what ever you make with it. 💕
Yes I did thank that - the fabric looks so similar!
That's too funny Ruan - you are saving to come to the US and I'm saving to come to the UK! We could just swap houses like in that Cameron Diaz Christmas movie! He he! Yes of course - it's the Maison Fauve Mia Dress 😘
@@theyorkshiresewgirl That you so much!!
Ruan, we don't need you to murder our language/ accent. We manage fine all by ouselves 😂😂 Dinner and the theatre looked great Hope Jack liked it.
That made me giggle!
America?! Where are you coming? If it’s Florida I’d love to meet you!
We are hoping to go to Disney Orlando 🤩
