Pretty sure cavalry can advance after combat into an infantry ZOC. I remember in my game getting an opportunity to shoot at cavalry adjacent with infantry units. I am also 90% sure there’s a line in the rules that routing/retreating units do not trigger withdrawal fire. I am almost certain it’s only if a unit voluntarily moves out of a ZOC during its activation. Also, you’re not reading the rules with any sort of care. The paragraph about melee requiring you to have the MPs to enter the hex was literally right next to your finger.
Yeah - when things start going bad for me they spiral into hell. I'm not sure why, but these rules are impossible to me. It may all have started with the set-up being just a weird image rather than something I could comprehend. As to the cav, you're definitely right that advance is possible - I think it's more that the cav couldn't have attacked to get there in the first place - although again, I may well be mistaken about that. :P
The videos are enjoyable even when the games aren't. It's a shame none of the games on this topic seem to be hitting the mark. Are there any you particularly enjoy?
No. I've been waiting for someone to address linear warfare for a long time, and they're finally starting to - not just the era, but catching the specifics. And it might be that the specifics make for painful games. I had fun with Banish All Their Fears though, so it comes closest. Just needs to fix the wing boundaries so they're movable.

I live in Piacenza
Looks pretty. I really regret not making it to Italy when I visited Europe.
