    Buakaw has naturally 'rooted' body structure - you can see it from how he just stands firm against his opponents strikes which are much less connected to the ground. It makes Buakaw's 'presence' in the ring so much more dominating. Like some body builders' genetic predispositions to muscle gain, some people are just born with that connected structure - making their power 'a profound mystery' to other fighters. And even when they open their own gyms to teach others, they find others just can't reach their level. Chinese MA originally cultivated that connection with zhanzhuang posture practice. But it takes hours per day and meditative mind sets (which are the greater challenge than the mere physical training aspect), so Chinese fighters don't tend to train anymore - and especially not the most competition-oriented guys.

    • @gurugeorge
      @gurugeorge ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah you could tell his "root" is great from the way he just accidentally bumped into the ref. and the ref bounced back into the ropes. It can be trained, so it makes me wonder if he got some "jin" training, maybe from one of his teachers, in which case one wonders whether it's like a bit of high level esoterica within the Muay Thai tradition itself? Perhaps they have their own version of standing/breath/pressure exercises, as like the cherry on the top for more advanced students?
      On the other hand I haven't seen that kind of root anywhere else in Muay Thai (although granted I have only watched MT occasionally and casually so I might have missed it). Or it could be as you said, he's just naturally got a rare knack for being rooted. Potentially it's also something he could have learnt from his family, if they're farmers or labourers (sometimes a kind of economy of movement is taught by "old hands" in various forms of hard labour, that _could_ potentially shade into jin training a bit). Or perhaps he's one of those ultra-competitive people who looks all over the place for an edge and came across those things by himself (theoretically you could simply read up about it and connect the dots yourself and train it on your own, if you're smart enough, or just watch others and sort of reverse-engineer it if you're both smart and have and a _really_ good kinaesthetic sense).

    • @Erime
      @Erime ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gurugeorge lol, yeah, I was gonna say - the way the ref bounced off him almost as if electric shocked, that revealed his powerfully connected posture.
      As you say, he could've trained it somehow, but it can kind of slip into place from standard training it seems. Some Western boxers like Tyson or M Ali seemed to have it to a degree, for example, and perhaps even McGregor - with his famous left hand. Often even they don't know why their own punches do more damage than their opponents' that are swung at the same speed and in the same style. These warriors seem to often find some more mystical explanation than 'root', also. It all looks the same, pretty much - that is, until they accidentally walk into the ref 😅.

    (before i forget- after or while you might be looking into buakaw, theres another thai legendary fighter thats had more then 200/300 fights and deemed to be impossible to hit. he was dodging close to every strike or kick and punished everyone for it. i cant recall his name, ill find it though)

      @@someboi4903 if you watch the k1 04 fight buakaw landed the most affective blows a lot of ppl feel that buakaw won the third round with his overwhelming knees in the clinch and that he shoulda been awarded the victory then and there. the japanese judges scored it a draw and they had to go to an extra round. Buakaw still won, but its been well documented that K1 immediately had a rule change after they saw buakaw ragdoll masato in the clinch (effectively taking away buakaw's best weapon at the time,). Remember at this point Masato was japan's golden boy in their promotion. When they fought again, masato won, and was credit to have "outworked" buakaw with punches. That second fight def showed that buakaw's style was hurt with the rule change. Hence the controversy, if they kept the rules masato would have lost for sure again.
      K1 had a lot of shady stuff going on in the background due to gambling and even the japanese yakuza somehow being involved. Something else that happened around this era was buakaw withdrew from a fight like a few hours before while he was getting prepped. Bc they had told him it was standard rules, then all of a sudden changed it that night to no clinch. Just food for thought.
