I get where you're coming from guys. I'm not calling his vulnerability weak. I'm just acknowledging that the people who aren't afraid to show human emotion are always one of my top tier favorite characters

If she calls him that after all these years of absence, she really values him. You can't expect someone to pick these feelings up right were they ended after all what happened
I think at this point it's clear that they aren't a good match. It's that conflict in view points I think. Same thing with John and Abigail although most don't see it. Both guys seem to have outgrown their teenage sweetheart relationship and really need a woman who isn't always trying to assert her dominance for desire of material gain. They both seem a bit like golddiggers in the sense that they want a perfect life and perfect house and money and a strong guy to take care of them. It's definitely sad they couldn't have settled down together somehow tho, john too. If there is another rdr I'd love to just start over with a fresh new character from a teenager and follow their story up through adult hood and possibly "retire" in a sense. (Settle down with a wife, and you know, not die)

True. I just turned 32, I've loved the same person since I was 14. When I first saw him I knew I had to meet him, and for some reason for once I didn't let my fear/shyness get the better of me and I went right over and introduced myself. We we're together for a little over 7 years and it broke my heart and it's never fully recovered. He's married now, kids... still kills me. I still hope for maybe one day... And I think about if I had done this or that differently maybe things wouldn't have ended how they did. Sometimes I think maybe we were too young and needed to experience life apart but my life has not been so pretty since then. Stories like this always sting. And I'll always dream of maybe one day.

Arthur is a reflection of who’s controlling him, He can either be as nice or rude as you as the gamer makes him. There’s no denying that he’s made some bad choices, but he was a soilder til the end. Arthur never made excuse for his actions, and didn’t want those around him to pay for his actions. That too me is honorable.

That Guy and it’s like I said, I realize that Arthur made some bad choices, but he was decent enough to accept the consequences, and didn’t want the ones he cared for to go down because of his decisions. Just like he told a pastor that he wasn’t a good man, he also told his ex that they couldn’t be together due to him being a wanted man. I’m not trying to make excuses for him, but I do think it’s commendable of him for not allowing others to go down with him.

Don't get me wrong, i finally got to that point and saw the complete 180 despite how we may play him, but it came off as disingenuous as if one of us were straight evil but suddenly started to change after the dr tells us we have brain cancer and 3 weeks left to live. Even Arthur knows it is based on what he says to people who call him good. He just wants to help at that point and doesn't care about being hypocritical.

I really love the Mary and Authur ship. Honestly, I wish there was a romance ending where Authur leaves the gang and run away with Mary to like Australia or some foreign place with loads of money. Have a beautiful cut scene with him and Mary living a normal, healthy life with a child in paradise and he thinks about his time with the gang but sees his life with Mary as more fulfilling. Would’ve been a wholesome ending that I’m sure any and all fans would’ve loved.
This is super old so maybe you've come around to the endings given or you've changed your mind, but that is not the point of Red Dead Redemption, it's about complicated people who live complicated lives not being able to have good endings because of the bad things they've done.
I predicted that in the end Arthur was gonna somehow run away with Mary and that would setup the next rdr game. Then he got tuberculosis and that killed my world.
Arthur didn't die of TB alone, it was the beatings he sustained from Micah that his TB infested body couldn't handle. It was also because he couldn't go to the warmer areas. I think if he was stranded in a colder place rather than Guarma then he'd of died in chapter 4/5.
Sigh I remember my first playthrough of this game. Me in chapter 4: more Mary side quests cool. I think they’ll finally get together at the end and run off once the gang somehow falls apart. and that’s why Arthur isn’t in RDR1. Cuz Rockstar wouldn’t kill off the main character AGAIN right? Tbh after going through somewhat long-distance on and off relationship quite a bit like this myself I actually understand Mary and why she left. It's kinda annoying how people dismisses Mary as a manipulative bitch and then proceed to gloss over how this is by far one of the most grounded depictions of complex relationships in a videogame. She does TRULY love Arthur, but she HATES constantly worrying about him as he is in a gang whose line of work is robbing and killing people. Considering how long it would take for someone to communicate how they are doing at that time I understand how it's crushingly difficult to wait for months or even years living in fear thinking about what happened to the most important person in your life. It's not about Arthur being a cutthroat, no-good thief who's not worthy of her class; it's about the fact that he could end up dead anytime and every time he goes out with his gang. Even if they both elope and live together in the camp the risk is still there. In the letters she said that she had told Arthur to leave the gang bc of how much it worries her but he refused because he can't. It is evident in this scene how much Mary had pleaded for Arthur to leave the gang back when they were together as she cynically told him that she knows he can't leave. This is why it irks me when people say that Mary is a basic bitch who only wants Arthur's help and nothing in return. She does love Arthur even in that time we were playing the game and Arthur has his faults on his previous relationship with her.

I think, that although it’s sad Arthur went down the way he wanted to. He was able to save and help many people even until the very end and got to see the sunset like he dreamed of. If anything I see Arthur randomly disappearing which is either to see his son, Issac or Mary. (Which depends on what year. And I say randomly since we'll won't be playing as him). I also feel like we won't be playing as Mac or Davie since Arthur and John died by themselves with the disease or people who killed them. And Mac is with Sean and Davie was with the gang. Also I feel like RDR3 would be placed in the beginning of the end of gangs aka when the Pinkotins (however you spell it) to come in. Plus I feel like when we get to play as Arthur I feel like in the fist chapter of the Epilogue it'll be years after the death of the Protagonist and the end of the first chapter ends with Dutch bringing Micah. Then Epilogue chapter 2 is about Blackwater since John's Epilogue takes place and shows it's right before Ross comes into play. And since the gang had just ran away from the events of Blackwater it's most likely about Blackwater in the Epilogue

As gamers, we spent at least 60+ hrs with Arthur's character; WTF is wrong with RockStar, lots of players were pissed when they killed John Marston in RDR1, People were bitching about it making petitions against it and then they go and kill off the main protagonist in RDR2 WTF! RockStar should've given Arthur a choice to go with Mary Linton, I mean why tease us with Mary asking Arthur to run away with her and have no option, he could've gone with her, then like in GTA V, you could switch to another character in this game John Marston and finish the game?

One of the most used words in the whole game is "loyalty" and Arthur feels that for the entire game, his loyalty changes from one person to other couple of people he called family towards the end but still he remained loyal and so he simply couldn't leave them alone, especially when the gang having a fallout like this.. Even without the illness, Arthur would sacrifice himself for Marston family and all the others he can help (the ones he believes deserving a second chance).. That's why i believe he was lying to Mary AND himself that one day he'll get away from all this with her Also i think we loved Arthur this much because we saw him fell like a badass, fighting for his beliefs and friends at the end. Don't get me wrong we would still love him regardless, but not this much. His death added too much depth to his character and all of his dialogues/relationship with others. Rockstar made a nice move with John and Arthur. But i really hope they won't do the same on the next title and made all of these sacrifices "cliche endings"
Asgard Ninja looks pretty nice either way but by this point in the game I was maxed out 10/10 on the hair, makes him look sicker and goes with the whole tb thing
I am not going to lie I cried after completing. Mary looks very very similar to a girl I had met we had a falling out. So it hit much closer to home very sad indeed. Edit: eleven months later I still haven't solved the issue i've been so desperate to solve. I knew this may not mean much but it's so close to the one year mark of release that I wanted to voice my concerns. Have a wonderful October slash holloween.
Those aren't entirely pre-recorded cutscenes. They are just Animations and Triggers that play during Regular Gameplay. These type of cutscenes are called "Fluent Cutscenes". GTA 5 also had them. These allow Smooth Transition between cutscene and gameplay. When in a cutscene, try noting the background, You'll see NPCs going on their regular routine.

And every single motherfucking cutscene of a side mission, every voice line, every animation, they have a version with John Marston instead of Arthur
@@Neo2266. I know, The Arthur ending happens in Chapter 6, I'm at chapter 7/Epilogue Part 1. I see, Now I understand what you meant by two versions of every cutscenes.Even All the Traveling dialogues were recorded twice, one time while riding on horse, second time for when on foot.
I always saw arthur as a father figure he acted just like my dad. He looked like my dad and sounded like him too. My parents were never really a healthy couple, and my mum looks almost exactly like mary linton when she was younger. Its a bit uncanny valley how similiar they both look to my parents but honestly thats what helped me relate 10x to the characters. It felt like I was watching my parents be friends again, and apart of me wanted them to be together so bad, I desperately wanted them to make it work. Because I saw in arthur and mary what I saw in my parents and I wanted a happy family. These scenes hit so hard for me and I was so sad when their romance didn’t work out I felt devastated like Arthur. i had never played rdr1 so I wasn’t aware of what was going to happen so I had hope for Arthur. But unfortunately we all know what happened
While I do think she asked a lot from Arthur, I do think she truly loved him. We can see Arthur regrets choosing the gang over her a bit in during the "Sister" cutscene. She knew he was better than that and probably knew him more intimately than anyone else ever did in the gang, so she had every right to be worried. Personally I think she's a fine character, ultimately her quests are optional depending on the player and that makes them more endearing.
Mary: "I should have ask someone else, but-" Arthur: "But I'm the best guy you know a frightening decent people." Just shows that he knew that was his whole life, being the 'Go to' tool that gets the job done. Sad he finally come out of his insecure shell to do the right thing when the TB bit him in the ass at the last minute.
Man, I feel kinda bad for Arther. Him and Mary had a decent life when they were younger and tried work something out and just didn't work. That goodbye letter she sent was just depressing. It really wasn't his fault that he was like that.

The amount Arthur was willing to sacrifice for John and his family was unreal. His loyalty to his friend goes so far beyond helping him escape at the end.
When Arthur said one more job and I’ll run away with you, it hurt my soul knowing it won’t happen as she’s part of a side quest. The main story never introduced her. Then I got the end and yeah...
It's kinda sad that, even though most people would prefer Arthur and Sadie, we both know that even if he survived, he would still say no to Sadie, he was too stuck on Mary, and you can see in the end that Sadie actually loved Arthur, she cared about him, and she was willing to kill and die for him.
I just did the mission where Arthur tries to find Mary’s dad it was lowkey kinda romantic. I loved how after the theater Mary wants to run away with Arthur, kind of like Romeo and Juliet but Arthur has to stay loyal to Dutch and the gang. Loved how he said he would run too if it wasn’t for not having money cause some fool left it behind in Black Water (Dutch) The ending credits were sad when Mary visited his grave. Makes me think what life would’ve been if they ran away..
The part where mary pulls him back and they just stand there facing eachother and the controller starts gently vibrating heartbeat rythem in that brief silence. I was like woah man there is some serious sexual energy between these two 😅
But she still loves her eventhough she is kind of that way...arthur really has a soft spot for her and both of them wanted to run away with each other but arthur couldnt coz of his situation. Its really sad.
I still love how Mary still have a heart with Arthur despite she did actually married to another man(who died because of disease), even when Arthur died and burried, Mary still visit and moarn at his grave. Now that's what i called a good love story.

Arthur is a reflection of who’s controlling him, He can either be as nice or rude as you as the gamer makes him. There’s no denying that he’s made some bad choices, but he was a soilder til the end. Arthur never made excuse for his actions, and didn’t want those around him to pay for his actions. That too me is honorable.

@Liam KOP Yeah but at that point it's more like an end life crisis. Don't get me wrong, i finally got to that point and saw the complete 180 despite how we may play him, but it came off as disingenuous as if one of us were straight evil but suddenly started to change after the dr tells us we have brain cancer and 3 weeks left to live. Even Arthur knows it is based on what he says to people who call him good. He just wants to help at that point and doesn't care about being hypocritical.

I really love the Mary and Authur ship. Honestly, I wish there was a romance ending where Authur leaves the gang and run away with Mary to like Australia or some foreign place with loads of money. Have a beautiful cut scene with him and Mary living a normal, healthy life with a child in paradise and he thinks about his time with the gang but sees his life with Mary as more fulfilling. Would’ve been a wholesome ending that I’m sure any and all fans would’ve loved.
This is super old so maybe you've come around to the endings given or you've changed your mind, but that is not the point of Red Dead Redemption, it's about complicated people who live complicated lives not being able to have good endings because of the bad things they've done.

Arthur didn't die of TB alone, it was the beatings he sustained from Micah that his TB infested body couldn't handle. It was also because he couldn't go to the warmer areas. I think if he was stranded in a colder place rather than Guarma then he'd of died in chapter 4/5.

They are all criminals. Relationships with criminals either end up in death or the weaker part/non criminal running away.
Tbh after going through somewhat long-distance on and off relationship quite a bit like this myself I actually understand Mary and why she left. It's kinda annoying how people dismisses Mary as a manipulative bitch and then proceed to gloss over how this is by far one of the most grounded depictions of complex relationships in a videogame. She does TRULY love Arthur, but she HATES constantly worrying about him as he is in a gang whose line of work is robbing and killing people. Considering how long it would take for someone to communicate how they are doing at that time I understand how it's crushingly difficult to wait for months or even years living in fear thinking about what happened to the most important person in your life. It's not about Arthur being a cutthroat, no-good thief who's not worthy of her class; it's about the fact that he could end up dead anytime and every time he goes out with his gang. Even if they both elope and live together in the camp the risk is still there. In the letters she said that she had told Arthur to leave the gang bc of how much it worries her but he refused because he can't. It is evident in this scene how much Mary had pleaded for Arthur to leave the gang back when they were together as she cynically told him that she knows he can't leave. This is why it irks me when people say that Mary is a basic bitch who only wants Arthur's help and nothing in return. She does love Arthur even in that time we were playing the game and Arthur has his faults on his previous relationship with her.

If anything I see Arthur randomly disappearing which is either to see his son, Issac or Mary. (Which depends on what year. And I say randomly since we'll won't be playing as him). I also feel like we won't be playing as Mac or Davie since Arthur and John died by themselves with the disease or people who killed them. And Mac is with Sean and Davie was with the gang. Also I feel like RDR3 would be placed in the beginning of the end of gangs aka when the Pinkotins (however you spell it) to come in. Plus I feel like when we get to play as Arthur I feel like in the fist chapter of the Epilogue it'll be years after the death of the Protagonist and the end of the first chapter ends with Dutch bringing Micah. Then Epilogue chapter 2 is about Blackwater since John's Epilogue takes place and shows it's right before Ross comes into play. And since the gang had just ran away from the events of Blackwater it's most likely about Blackwater in the Epilogue

RockStar should've given Arthur a choice to go with Mary Linton, I mean why tease us with Mary asking Arthur to run away with her and have no option, he could've gone with her, then like in GTA V, you could switch to another character in this game John Marston and finish the game?

One of the most used words in the whole game is "loyalty" and Arthur feels that for the entire game, his loyalty changes from one person to other couple of people he called family towards the end but still he remained loyal and so he simply couldn't leave them alone, especially when the gang having a fallout like this.. Even without the illness, Arthur would sacrifice himself for Marston family and all the others he can help (the ones he believes deserving a second chance).. That's why i believe he was lying to Mary AND himself that one day he'll get away from all this with her
Also i think we loved Arthur this much because we saw him fell like a badass, fighting for his beliefs and friends at the end. Don't get me wrong we would still love him regardless, but not this much. His death added too much depth to his character and all of his dialogues/relationship with others. Rockstar made a nice move with John and Arthur. But i really hope they won't do the same on the next title and made all of these sacrifices "cliche endings"

Those aren't entirely pre-recorded cutscenes. They are just Animations and Triggers that play during Regular Gameplay. These type of cutscenes are called "Fluent Cutscenes". GTA 5 also had them. These allow Smooth Transition between cutscene and gameplay. When in a cutscene, try noting the background, You'll see NPCs going on their regular routine.

I always saw arthur as a father figure he acted just like my dad. He looked like my dad and sounded like him too.
My parents were never really a healthy couple, and my mum looks almost exactly like mary linton when she was younger. Its a bit uncanny valley how similiar they both look to my parents but honestly thats what helped me relate 10x to the characters.
It felt like I was watching my parents be friends again, and apart of me wanted them to be together so bad, I desperately wanted them to make it work. Because I saw in arthur and mary what I saw in my parents and I wanted a happy family.
These scenes hit so hard for me and I was so sad when their romance didn’t work out I felt devastated like Arthur. i had never played rdr1 so I wasn’t aware of what was going to happen so I had hope for Arthur. But unfortunately we all know what happened

God I love their story so much as tragic as his ending was.. their cute banter teasing each other back and forth; best love story of all time ❤️
While I do think she asked a lot from Arthur, I do think she truly loved him. We can see Arthur regrets choosing the gang over her a bit in during the "Sister" cutscene. She knew he was better than that and probably knew him more intimately than anyone else ever did in the gang, so she had every right to be worried. Personally I think she's a fine character, ultimately her quests are optional depending on the player and that makes them more endearing.
Mary: "I should have ask someone else, but-"
Arthur: "But I'm the best guy you know a frightening decent people."
Just shows that he knew that was his whole life, being the 'Go to' tool that gets the job done. Sad he finally come out of his insecure shell to do the right thing when the TB bit him in the ass at the last minute.
He had a lot of good in him before he got diagnosed too
Man, I feel kinda bad for Arther. Him and Mary had a decent life when they were younger and tried work something out and just didn't work. That goodbye letter she sent was just depressing. It really wasn't his fault that he was like that.
This was a bigger heartbreak than when my crush denied me...

The amount Arthur was willing to sacrifice for John and his family was unreal. His loyalty to his friend goes so far beyond helping him escape at the end.
When Arthur said one more job and I’ll run away with you, it hurt my soul knowing it won’t happen as she’s part of a side quest. The main story never introduced her. Then I got the end and yeah...
It's kinda sad that, even though most people would prefer Arthur and Sadie, we both know that even if he survived, he would still say no to Sadie, he was too stuck on Mary, and you can see in the end that Sadie actually loved Arthur, she cared about him, and she was willing to kill and die for him.
Sadie only respects Arthur, she still loves her husband.

I just did the mission where Arthur tries to find Mary’s dad it was lowkey kinda romantic. I loved how after the theater Mary wants to run away with Arthur, kind of like Romeo and Juliet but Arthur has to stay loyal to Dutch and the gang. Loved how he said he would run too if it wasn’t for not having money cause some fool left it behind in Black Water (Dutch) The ending credits were sad when Mary visited his grave. Makes me think what life would’ve been if they ran away..

I still love how Mary still have a heart with Arthur despite she did actually married to another man(who died because of disease), even when Arthur died and burried, Mary still visit and moarn at his grave. Now that's what i called a good love story.
