I'm just gonna say it: Thrax was too cool of a villain for this movie. Like holly shit, this could have been a pretty awesome dark film if the whole thing had the same tone as Thrax.

From an artistic standpoint, this is an extremely creative film. Gross af… but creative with attention to detail.
Honestly love the (semi-) scientific accuracy of making Frank get sick from dropping an egg in a Chimpanzee cage. They’re so closely related that their pathogens can sometimes easily infect humans as well. There are a lot of little nice nods to actual science and biology in this film
HIV came from chimpanzee SIV.
yeah Ebola virus came from chimps iirc, and Ebola is actually about the closest irl disease to Edgar Allen Poe's "Red Death"
Even if all the cells are anthropomorphized to oblivion there aren’t that many inaccuracies in terms of facts in this movie. Arguably the worst offender of fiction without going into the anthropomorphic nature of the cells is the ending of jones surviving, that was nothing short of divine intervention.
I will admit, besides most of the gross parts, this was one of the best movies, but can we all agree that frank was a pretty disgusting person

I feel weirdly validated that BionicPig also hated the zit scene. This movie scared me as a kid, and I think it's because it was so gross.
To be fair, humans are pretty gross and there are definitely people like Frank out there in the world.

My teacher showed us this movie in anatomy and I was actually interested in the movie. I watched it when I got home. What stuck with me is the fact that every white blood cell on the police force thinks Osmosis did the wrong thing by making Frank throw up the oyster. The oyster had a germ that could've caused harm to Frank. Osmosis did the right thing by making Frank throw up and it sucks how everyone treated him because he made the right decision for Frank's health.

I always thought that Thrax was Anthrax, because they have very similar symptoms to what Frank had, including the order in which he had them.
I even think the whole "Red Death" thing was just a play on the fact that he's colored red and was going was going to kill Frank.

My mom made me watch this movie when I was a kid after I told her I didn't want to takes baths or brush my teeth, you know, like kids do, and later when it got to the part where Thrax was talking about the people he's killed, he mentioned a girl who didn't like wash herself, and my mom just gave me this look and I thought "oh shit". It's hilarious now, but back then, that scared me into cleanliness.

Whenever I had a substitute teacher for science lessons, they used to put on this movie. HOWEVER, the lessons were only an hour long, so I've seen the first 45-ish minutes like 5 time, and the ending only once

My favorite part of this movie was definitely the creativity in its plot. It inspired a lot of animated TV shows including its own, because of how awesome the idea is. Yeah it's a gross movie, but you can't deny how amazing this idea was.

Frank tells Shane that her mom got sick and died because she got sick. That's probably the only clue that's explicitly stated in the movie.

You never mentioned the "Saliva Boat" wreckage investigation scene after Jones meets Drix. (the very thing that caused Frank's "Sore throat".) I don't remember Thrax calling himself "the Red Death". The interpretation I took was - Thrax was dubbed "la muerte roja" by a small (clearly hysterical from fear) multi-eyed germ that has a twice reoccurring flash freezing gag. The only time its revealed that the phrase "The Red Death" is revealed; is when Jones contacts a information center to have the phrase translated from Spanish as "The Red Death".

My sister and I loved this movie as kids, and we decided to re-watch it again, but with our roommate (who had only seen it ONCE in their life)
The mistake we made was that we were eating while watching it.
I only adore the animated bits of the film, but the live-acting, it's like they didn't even try. But Bill Murray really went *nuts-out* on being the "disgusting character."

This was one of the few movies that were allowed to be played by teachers when they had a “movie day” in my elementary and middle school - it was the best one they had so I have probably seen it over 20 times and will forever associate it with school. As an adult it just adds to my fuel for public school needing MAJOR Help. How was THIS the best movie appropriate for children???

My teacher showed us this movie in anatomy and I was actually interested in the movie. I watched it when I got home. What stuck with me is the fact that every white blood cell on the police force thinks Osmosis did the wrong thing by making Frank throw up the oyster. The oyster had a germ that could've caused harm to Frank. Osmosis did the right thing by making Frank throw up and it sucks how everyone treated him because he made the right decision for Frank's health.
Are we not gonna address the fact that at 7:23 , there is a statue of a sperm cell that says Our Founder on it?

Trust me, some of the live action parts feel like a slog to get through. Especially with the beginning with the egg and the monkey. The animation was good, which still makes me wonder why they didnt just fully animate it.
