This song was written by Dimash's mentor/teacher/friend who died of Covid. It is a father talking to his daughter who is leaving home to live her adult life. He is happy for her but sad at her parting and growing up. Dimash sang this as a tribute performance during lock down.

The lyrics of this song comes from a poem written by Shomishpay Sariev. The poet’s daughter is getting married and the father worries about what kind of life she will have when moving to her grooms family. He tells her that a whole life without love is like one day with love.
The music composer was Dimash teacher, Kenes Duysekeyev. He died of COVID last year.
Dimash gets very emotional when he sings this song because he loved his teacher.
This is just a short summary of this song.

I understood this performance in such a way that it was for us, the audience, who tried to show the visual embodiment of a person's dream. We see a virtual cube with walls of their smoke that limit the space. With the beginning and development of the song, we gradually begin to guess that, probably, the Hero lost, most likely, forever a loved one. Grand piano. The girl plays the beautiful music of their happy life together. Dimash with a tear, with different intonations, with different volumes turns many times to the girl "My dear " ("Karagym ai"), but the girlfriend is only in his imagination. She really disappears from the Hero's imagination at the end of the song.. Dimash sits down at an empty grand piano, but could not touch the keys. He couldn't play the love music they played together alone.. In my opinion, great drama, just brilliant. Maybe other viewers understood the plot of this song differently..

This is a song about love and beauty of a girl. Sings in Kazakh. The song was written in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Kazakhs have many lyrical songs that were passed down orally by the generation. In Kazakhstan, we speak two languages. The native language Kazakh and the language Russian remained with us after the union.

One of Dimash's mentors wrote the song. His daughter died in childhood. When the time came for her to marry if she were alive, her father wrote this song as an expression of what he would have said to her on her wedding day , had she been alive. "Apples in your eyes" really means - "my dearest daughter, the light of my eyes" .... I do not know if English also says that something is precious "like the pupil of an eye", we say.
So it's a very sad, soul-rending song - words from a father to his late daughter (notice that the girl is wearing a white wedding dress).
This mentor of Dimash died of covid during the current pandemic - Dimash sang this song at a concert dedicated to his memory, in an empty concert hall. Here is the link , if you want th-cam.com/video/HilvUOOPRvE/w-d-xo.html

Thank you for this reaction, Frank. This is my favourite song by Dimash next to Samaltau and Daybreak. Dimash is singing this song in kazakh, a language that not all Kazakhs are able to speak or understand. Kazakh is a turkmenic language, so the most simularities are with turkish. In this version the loss of a beloved person is performed so impressively. Zarina is the girl at the piano, normally she is Dimash`s background singer. She can play the piano, but if it`s live I don`t know. I think it`s okay that you try to understand, wether things are completely live or not. It´s not always easy to tell. I love the complete digital concert by Dimash so much and am very happy, that he is releasing the songs one by one!

  • @zeustn9525

Kazakh language is part of the Turkish family which belongs to a very different language family from Arabic. Arabic is a semitic language along with Hebrew, Aramaic, Syriac, Akkadian etc...
However because of historical reasons, there are many loan words from Arabic that found their way into Turkish and therefore Kazakh. For example Dimash says Assalamu Alaykom which is originally Arabic, and says Allah which is God in Arabic (not a proper name).
You might have been confused because of the letter 'q' which is similar to the letter ق in Arabic but interestingly doesn't exist in Turkish as far as I know.

Kenes Duysekeyev (composed this song) is one of the most famous composers of Kazakhstan, conductor of the State TV and Radio Orchestra. Dimash's teacher. From childhood he showed great ability to learn, and his parents prophesied for him the future of a great mathematician. But he was attracted by music. Thanks to perfect hearing and great love for music, he selected and played any melodies on various musical instruments, among which were: button accordion; accordion; piano; mandolin. Wrote opera, musicals, songs. He died in July 2020 at 74 years old.

👉... and again a completely different version of this wonderful song at the Dimash Digital concert in January 2021 ... brilliant and so touching.
Dimash also sang this song at the 60th Qazaqconcert 2020 (TV broadcast). It was also used for a memorial ceremony for the people who died of Covid-19. Dimash sang this song for his professor and mentor Kenes Duisekeev (photo), the composer of this beautiful melody. He recently passed away from Covid-19. When Kenes Duisekeev set the words of the Kazakh poet Shomishbay Sariev to music and composed this melody, he remembered his sister (one of 13 brothers) who died at the age of 19 before she could marry.
Sariev wrote the poem for his daughter, who got married and left the house and the village. He wondered what her life would be like and wished her a life full of love. Life is short and without love it would be sad and empty.
👉When Dimash sang this song for the first time in 2016 for the composer's 70th birthday, he interpreted it completely differently and the composer Kenes Duisekeev was overwhelmed. You should react to this version: th-cam.com/video/wVfQu1Cd5CA/w-d-xo.html🌼🇩🇪

The Composer of this song wrote it, because his daughter and father died (the lyrics are older). He was also an important mentor of Dimash and died on covid. Dimash sang it to honor him.

It was actually the composer's sister who died at age 19, so he didn't have to time to get married. The composer wrote the melody thinking about his father and sister (from the view of father). That's why it has so much sadness...

Hi, this is the Dimash's digital concert which took place in January 2021, so a direct performance, but through digital tools (due to covid pandemic), as mentioned at the beginning of the video (he released other videos from this event: Olimpico, SOS, Give me love, etc... available on his YT channel)

G plus rolling r's 🙃 The girl at the piano is one of Dimash's background singers, Zarina. She represents the daughter of the lyricist and the sister of the composer who were the Muses of the makers of this beautiful but sad song.

Just a thought, but perhaps the pianist was playing the part of the "apple of his eye," while playing the piano. Then she left, leaving him wondering. How he sat at the piano, delicately caressing the keys she'd recently touched, gave me the idea.

This is my first experience with your channel. LOL, I'll follow Dimash anywhere. Dimash, according to many, is just to perfect to be real. Early on he was often accused of lip-syncing. He developed a movement with his mic - not appropriate to all songs - where he moves it back & forth across his mouth as he holds a note. I think that was to show them that yes, it was live, no recordings.
Nice review. I like your sincerity. We Dears love Dimash so much, some get rather protective, but I bet you understand that. I hope to see you do more reactions. New sub.

Yep! :) this this is his native language, The official languages of Kazakhstan are Kazakh, with 5,290,000 speakers (28.57% of the population) around the country, and Russian, which is spoken by 6,230,000 people (33.65% of the population.) Kazakh is a Turkic language, so that’s why it may seem familiar in some sense in you know any other Turkic sounding languages. Thank you for your reaction, as always! :)

Dimash is an Kazakh his language is Kazakh Turkic not ARABIC .Characteristic features such as vowel harmony, agglutination, and lack of grammatical gender, are almost universal within the Turkic family. There is a high degree of mutual intelligibility among the various Oghuz languages, which include Turkish, Kazakhstan Azerbaijani, Turkmen, Qashqai, Chaharmahali Turkic, Gagauz, Balkan Gagauz Turkish and Oghuz-influenced Crimean Tatar. The Turkic languages are a language family of at least documented languages, spoken by the Turkic peoples of Eurasia from Southern Europe, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Western Asia, North Asia (particularly in Siberia), and East Asia. The Turkic languages originated in a region of East Asia spanning Western China to Mongolia, where Proto-Turkic is thought to have been spoken, from where they expanded to Central Asia and farther west during the first millennium.

Song is in Kazakh. This is Dimash's native language, which is spoken at home, but he is also fluent in Russian like most Kazakhs. Both Kazakh and Russian are spoken in Kazakhstan. Both languages are considered official in the country.
“This is a song about the love of a father for his daughter, who is getting married,” said its author, kazakh composer Kenes Duisekeyev, in an interview. He was a teacher and mentor of Dimash in the master's degree at the Kazakh National University of Arts. Kenes Duisekeyev died on July 9, 2020 from covid.
Dimash Kudaibergen performed this song on 26 March, 2016 on the Concert "70th anniversary of the composer Kenes Duisekeev", Kazakhstan (subtitles). Below the video is the history of the song's creation th-cam.com/video/stEQvFrTA1g/w-d-xo.html
At a concert in October 2020, Dimash dedicated the performance of "Karagym-ai" to Kenes Duisekeyev, the great composer and honored art worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan (there are subtitles) th-cam.com/video/HilvUOOPRvE/w-d-xo.html

Yes it's his distinct language. I had the same thought about the 'gkh' {?} sound! That it was a lot like that sound in the Dutch Language. It was when I was watching Dimash thank the Kobyz Player; Olzhas Qurmanbek, - pronouncing his name - on the 'Stranger' clip, that this similarity was very prominent to me. Also, if you are living in the North of Holland that sound is pronounced very much softer in the northern dialects of Hollans than in the middle or south, For eg; in Rotterdam where it is very much more prominent. But in Kazakh it is far more so. I also think it must have some Arabic language roots. I'm sure a Linguist could tell us.
As for your performance 'enquires' - It's been my observation if the words 'lipsynch' and Dimash are ever placed within a million miles of each other - hoardes of vitriolic dears will come roaring out of the woodwork to shoot that 'Reactor down in everlasting FLAMES! {Just sayin...! } Oh and 'backing track' comes a pretty close second... For the vast majority of time I believe Dimash uses live musicians., bands, Orchestra's, but I think you're right; there is some more recent stuff where it seems he's using backing music. But it's not in the sense that the US, for eg. are used to. It's not all studio created synth electronically blended - but actual studio recordings of real musicians.
(No doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong...) Cheers L

from what i have understood language wise, kazakh is it's own language, but it has both turkish and russian influence. because i am learning turkish and there are some words i recognize from when he sings. not often, but enough to make me think that it's a mixture of at least those two. and since russian is also his second language....it is natural for him to lean towards russian for more native songs.

It’ because Kazakh and Turkish are from the same language group, Turkic which was the language of the Eurasian nomads.
