I saw a theory about Xaden getting Violet to ask the right questions because he thinks she a truth sayer and I loved it. Then the new bonus chapter dropped and I was 85% convinced and now I am 98% convinced she’s a truth sayer. I will gladly accept being wrong but I don’t think so. I AM SO EXCITED!!!
I see people saying this, but what would being a Truthsayer entail I wonder.

I don't know If any of you watched Supernatural, but there was one ep when I think Jack (Lucifer son) made people to be unable to lie. Like literally when someone tries to lie it comes as a truth (even tho someone wanted to say lie) and no matter what, no matter what someone intends to say he'll always say truth to Violet.

This potential gift, whether linked to her second signet or the life-and-resurrection dynamic we see with Brennan and Naolin, could manifest as visions or communication with deceased characters like Liam. The trauma surrounding Liam’s death resonates deeply with me, and I wonder how such an ability would add emotional depth to her story, allowing her to explore unresolved storylines from the past. -- The repeated mentions of "recovered correspondence" in the books pique my curiosity as well. It suggests more than simple communication; these documents or messages were likely lost, hidden, or intercepted, hinting at deeper secrets. I can’t shake the thought that they might contain critical knowledge exchanged by key characters, such as Violet’s father or others involved with the venin, which could shift the narrative significantly. I imagine these correspondences might reveal insights into dragon history, venin origins, or betrayals within the rebellion. -- And then there’s Andarna. Her delayed hatching after six centuries feels significant, hinting at her potential importance in hidden leadership among the silver dragons. The more I think about it, the more I realize how Imogen’s ability to manipulate memories raises doubts about Violet’s perception of events. It makes me question how much of her experience-especially regarding her father’s death-might have been altered without her knowledge. -- Naolin’s resurrection of Brennan also stands out to me, suggesting a deeper connection between power and sacrifice. I can’t help but wonder if we’ll see more resurrections or divine transformations in the future. Xaden’s struggle with his transformation into a venin captures my attention, as it introduces the recurring theme of control versus corruption. It’ll be interesting to see if he can find a cure or if he’ll ultimately accept his transformation. -- I’ve been thinking a lot about Violet’s father lately. The theories about his involvement with the venin intrigue me, especially the speculation that he might still be alive, transformed, or corrupted. The sage figure Violet encounters in her dreams feels like a potential connection to him, raising so many questions about his true fate. His missing research on dragons and venin implies he held vital knowledge-perhaps even meant for Violet-that never reached her. I find myself wanting to unravel this unresolved mystery. -- The head venin’s identity looms over the narrative as well, and I can’t help but speculate that it could be someone close to Violet, maybe even her father or grandfather. If that’s true, Violet may have to confront painful truths about her lineage and the venin’s leadership. This complexity adds such an emotional layer to the story that I can’t wait to see how it unfolds. -- Overall, these intertwined threads of memory, sacrifice, identity, and trust make me excited for Onyx Storm. I feel like the next installment will delve even deeper into the characters’ relationships and the hidden secrets that shape their world.
I think "commanding the power of the sky" is the fact that she can speak to ALL the dragons and they understand and answer her on their way and she understands them. She spoke to the 2 green dragons and that was before threshing, she spoke to Codag, she asked him if he will help and he "said yes in his way", she spoke to few dragons. So I think that is her power of command
JFB saying to Violet “some of us have things to do on the other side” when they were crossing the parapet in Fourth Wing has me thinking this conspiracy is SO deep & they infiltrated who knows how long ago!!!

I missed these Empyrean episodes! This and the Xaden pov chapter episode made me so happy! I am rewatching the Fourth Wing ones as I go through my latest reread, and I am loving every second of them. January can’t get here soon enough 😅
My immediate thoughts from reading the blurb sent me in a TOTALLY different direction to you guys 😂
My immediate thoughts was that the ‘secret’ that could destroy everything is to do with Xaden and what happens at the end of Iron Flame. The leader of the revolution being venin is pretty HUGE.
So I assumed Violet would be journeying by herself or at least, without Xaden, since he doesn’t want to leave the wards.
BUT she can’t bargin, can’t promise anything to the isle kingdoms as a dead generals daughter, or as Xaden’s girlfriend. She’s going to have to be bargaining as somebody with actual power. Probably, maybe, his wife. The Queen of Tyrrendor

In as much as Andarna is effectively a chameleon why do you think she can only gift Violet one signet. Maybe Andarna could gift Violet the signet that is needed at the time? This could also be the reason why Andarna's den left so that humans could not exploit their kind Andarna was left behind so she could hatch when a rider with the necessary moral character was available to be bonded.
Could also be why the first 6 only bonded the known dragon types
I really like this theory. I've always thought Andarna and Violet are too much of a special pair for it not to be something other worldly.
Also, Violet has an offensive signet when it comes to Tairn. I'm thinking Andarna's contribution will be the balance too; defensive magic. Imagine the powerhouse Violet would be? The greatest of her generation.
But the signet is related more to the rider than the dragon

30:37 Maybe a little unhinged theory but... On a re-watch of the podcast I realized that venin are always said to draw power from the Earth, riders draw magic from their dragons. But Violet can command "the sky". Earth/sky is perfect opposite for the "nature wants things in balance" notion going on throughout the book. While, yes, this is her dragon given magic, I think there is something special about commanding the sky and the sky potentially turning out to be it's own source of power (just like the earth and the dragons). We already now lighting can kill Venin. But is this all that the sky can represent. What if there is also a side to the sky power that can not just kill but also heal Venin. I feel that Violet's second signet is some sort of intensic ability (hello throne scene) however, we haven't seen the full potential of her first signet yet, as we've been so distracted by what her second one might be. I wonder if Violet can really heal venin by the end of the series or mend their souls somehow. And while she won't be a mender or a healer that can repair her own body, she would be able to heal others that are so utterly broken. Literally their souls were broken. I find that poetic, making me thing of the myth of Chiron - the wounded healer. Possibly, if she learns to commend the Sun (another symbol related to the sky), which is so often symbolic of the very substance of life. Just a theory tho.

My theory about Vi’s signet is that she is a MINDWALKER!
Vi needs true, untampered facts and knowledge and what better ways to get that than by entering someone’s mind and read their thoughts, experience their feelings and anticipate their actions? and it fully matches the inntinnsic type of signet theories! It happened 4x in iron flame, the first time with Xaden during the throne scene (and Xaden was freaked out! So not part of their normal mental bond) and 3x during the battle of Basgiath with Violet being in Tairn’s head and Tairn overseeing the battle field, Xaden feeling like he has ran out of power and dying, and finally Sgaeyl and the taste of sour blood in her teeth. She was in no way communicating with them, so how did she feel and taste and see what they were seeing? Mindwalker it is, I’m 90% sure… it would be such a powerful signet to have, so related to her need for information, and a very good defensive power as she already has a powerful offensive power to help her in battle!
I never cued into how she did that in battle because we’d already seen through Andarna and Tairns eyes before. I always assumed it was because of their bonds, but maybe it’s just easier for her to use this type of signet on them because of the bonds
@@lf1257exactly! Her signet developed easier with the ones she was already bonded to, but Sgaeyl RARELY speaks to her through the bond so how did she know the taste of « sour blood » in her teeth? Sgaeyl would not send that down the bond, especially not to Violet. And when Xaden ran out of power, Violet felt like SHE was the one dying, she fully absorbed Xaden’s conscience into hers and « merged » or « mindwalked » with him

@@lf1257all the dragons can share memories or visions with their riders like how tairn was able to show the other dragons the amber mavis kill attempt and then they were able to share it with their riders. So I didn’t read too much into that scene.
@@yuvangel8672 Right. She sees through Tairn and Andarna’s eyes when they show Violet her relic and when Xaden is fighting the general, Violet points it out when it’s happening. Tairn shares the memory of Amber in Vi’s room, and of Resson when they were convincing the cadets to leave for Aretia. But in IF ch. 64, Violet gets overwhelmed by the “pathway” after she drops her shields and then gets information from the bonds like she hadn’t before

I’m so torn about the throne scene because after she hears Xaden’s thoughts he says “I should not have done that” and I always took it as a foreshadowing of him being an intinnsic and accidentally sharing his intention power with her somehow by losing control, but now I don’t know if this can be seen as his intentions or if it’s too specific and therefore more like mind-reading exact thoughts. Before this I thought she might be a truth sayer in the sense that people feel compelled to tell her the truth and can’t outright lie to her because Xaden withheld truths but said he didn’t actually lie.
I don’t feel like the “I should not have done that” comment fits with the intention type of inntinnsic. He does mention some people intend in clear pictures, but I wonder if he figured out she’s inntinnsic here and is trying not to freak her out. He did know about the lightening before she did so it would fit the pattern.

@@cillaheydenreich1320 exactly! She’s been shielding so much for so long that it would make sense that she hasn’t caught on to it, because Xaden has to drop his shields to use his signet. She only drops them to allow conversations between the bonds which is why we’ve only seen it around them. I think Xaden was taking a minute to calm down and shield against her to not throw her off and have her freak out. And she didn’t know he was inntinnsic at this point. I compared it, all of this was italicized in Iron Flame but when he sent the images after the “should I get the wing leader” comment in Fourth Wing it was not.
@@lf1257I also feel like she’s intinsic and Xaden was curious about it (like he was thinking is that a possibility?) and when he let her read him he got scared for her because he confirmed to himself once again how awesome and dangerous she and then he was like ooopsie bad move, like now he knows that that’s her second signet it could mean immediate danger for her life like if he ends up tortured or something other people find out about Violet and want to kill her even more than now

Theory about Violet 2nd signet: she's not only a truth sayer but people just can't lie to her, they have to tell her the truth. Maybe that's why Xaden said in his pov on chapter 27 that lying is harder around Violet

I agree with Lexi. if FW was the beginning of the W and we started to head down at the end of that book (Liam dies, Violet almost dies, She finds out there’s a revolution happening and a war coming), then IF must have taken us all the way to the first trough of the W (Lilith Sorrengail dies, everyone knows about the venin, Xaden turns venin). So that would mean that OS starts off bleak, but towards the end it takes us to the second peak of the W.
My theory is that "magic" as a counterforce to Venin magic from the land is actually power from the sky! Like I'm pretty it was told somewhere in the series (maybe Papa Sorrengail told that to Vi? Like I'm not sure I'd have to do the reread) that "you should not touch power from the ground but the one from the sky" or something along that line. I'M WAITING FOR WHAT'S ABOUT TO HAPPEN
I wrote a reply to the story but I don’t think she’s a truth slayer. I think she’s more of a decoder. And it starts when she starts to pull from Andarna’s power for the ruins. And the first hint is when Sloane starts talking about direct descendants. Because she had heard this before from Quinn but didn’t piece it together. And then the prime example is when Jessyna tells her about a possible second dragon and Violet realizes that Andarna isn’t a black dragon bc of when Andarna was hiding and she blended in.

I just read fourth wing for the first time and I am obsessed. I cannot wait to learn more about this world , and just listening to some of your theories and thoughts. I’m so excited to continue the series. I’m going to try to read to catch up to Onyx storm but I have to wait several months for the audiobook of iron flame .

Here my dumb butt was thinking the venin were literally "in the walls" and I was like . Well that's overwhelming!
I do think it’s a possibility panchek is or will be venin. I was just listening to fourth wing recently and after parapet when they are gathered in the courtyard and Vi is talking with Rhi and Tara, Tara says she heard that panchek was using the commandant position as a stepping stone to Lilith and then Melgren’s job. And Vi says that wouldn’t happened because there is no beating Melgren’s signet so no one would replace him. Pancheks power hungry, he’ll probably get Liliths job now but if he can’t go any higher I could totally see him turning venin for more power.

Cliffsbane was already overthrown and it was attempted at Badgiath, which in essence succeeded in taking out Lillith. I believe Panchek it working with the enemy and he's the mastermind behind setting the lures and dropping the wards.

W pivots seem to occur at the end as cliffhangers
Book 1: Brennan is alive
Book 2: Xaden turns venin
Book 3: tbd at the end
All of the other plot twists seem like regular parts of the story.
About the truth sayer -
1. Violet is the most powerful rider
2. Xaden has shadows and intinnsic
3. She’s got to me something more…truth sayer + power lightning doesn’t seem to be a combo significantly more powerful than Xaden. Seeems about on par. So she’s got to have something else- ie 3 signets or something like that
I know that everyone is talking about the islands but beyond the failing Aretia wards appears more like Krovla, at least to start with.
Maybe Violet is able to find the truth in information. Like when she realized the venin we’re going to attack Basgaith
Once we have the book in hand, if there’s a map of the isle kingdoms in the front we will know it for sure
You mention how she could be a less powerful intrinsic than Xaden because it’s not affecting her the same way it affects others with that signet. But honestly, I could see her being so much more powerful because her brain works differently. Remember “mind of a scribe” she literally thinks differently than other riders. I think she only seems less powerful because the entire book focused on her shielding. Xaden has to lower his shields to use his ability and hers are always up
So not sure if it’s been said but at the convention that Rebecca was in at the Library of Congress like a month or so back she said that if she were to have a signet she would want Distance Wielding, because she would want to wield across Space and Time! Idk if she meant to let that slip but she did.
Here is a crazy idea. What if Mira turned venin when trying to raise a ward to save her siblings and that's how she achieved something that was imposoble for her.
The part where andarna is a special dragon so violets signet would be special. Signets don't depend on the dragon but what the rider needs! Violet needs the truth most of all. Also I think the elevated truth sayer will be that people can't lie to violet
Okay- this is kind of a wild card theory but it is what it is. What if “not everyone will survive” is really talking about someone turning venin- like Mira when she can’t get her shit together after their mom’s death. More like she can’t survive the temptation.
I love the theories you guys share and the banter is always fun! But I have to admit, Nicole’s loud moments can be a bit much for me. I find myself constantly adjusting the volume just to keep up. I really want to soak in the theories without having to take my earphones off every few minutes. Just a thought!
I think the books keep repeating the balance thing… so Vi has a powerful destructive power and when it comes to need she might get a a second signet based on the NEED to safe “fix” “heal” “resurrection” like the ying yang balance of things idk im going insane😂
I think Violets first signal “commanding the power of the sky” doesn’t just mean lightning but even the sun to heal the earth. Her second signal appears on the page as truth in her greatest need for truth, the truth about xadens second signet, andarnas heritage, and this is where she’s the only one to get the truth from papa s research. Just a thought since Rebecca is telling us it’s already on the page… is it January yet?!?!

I am leaning towards the Uno reverse card theory, makes sense for the throne scene, and this was solidified for me during the last chapters, when Sawyer needed help, Violet bended metal herself and thought it was weird… It also makes sense with Andarna, as she is a chameleon, Violet gets to be a chameleon herself when needed
Currently still thinking that speed is violets second cygnet. Violets need to be faster throughout the first half of iron flame, multiple mentions of damn your fast, xaden telling Garrick to get faster and Garrick saying it’s not like I’ve got a choice, referring to his speed, violet being faster than everyone when Mira arrives at Aretia.
And running to the ward chamber in Basgiath. I wonder if this plays into the 10 second breakdown when she was watching the dagger pass between Ridoc, Rhi, and Sawyer
I agree on part. I think she's withheld a part of Andarna’s gift in that she can manipulate time. If she's slowing time, but still moving in real time, it would in essence make her faster. There are also 6 separate chapters that she observes that time appears to slow. When Xaden was hurt, the typical 12 hour flight was made in 8 hours, which is just one example of several.
The amount of times they say “I’d hate to be an only child” I really do think Mira AND Brennan are fair game for dying but I think Mira would be first since we kind of just got Brennan back
also because we need a showdown between Brennan and his former lover turned Venin 👀 keep forgetting his name
Why is everyone so fixated on the “truth” part of the wording of that sentence? What I find more alarming is “ONLY VIOLET CAN FIND”. I think those words are the key to her second signet, and not the truth part. I think the “truth” there in that phrase is a BIG red herring that RY is throwing our way. Her second signet is going to have something to do with finding but obviously, in a more mystical and powerful way.
Ties in with everything we know so far:
1. Her signet just being “she’s a Finder” would be underwhelming at first glance
2. Based on what we’ve gotten so far, she might be the first of her kind with this signet so she would be the ONLY ONE to have that signet and find the truth
3. Xaden’s insistence that she asks him questions, because that would trigger her need to FIND answers
4. At her core as a person she’s always trying to find answers, find explanations, find sources, find solutions
Tldr: Violet Sorrengail is a damn good Hufflepuff xD
To your remarks on magic, if you recall Jack made an unhealable mark on dain like it drained him right? I think on a small scale either at the tail end of onyx storm or the beginning of the next book, something will heal dain on the sly. Violet will notice this and that will be a focal point to return magic back to the land in poromiel and the barrens

(Chapter 30-35) you were talking about the brothers calling the power from the sky and destroying the jealous brother at a terrible price, my thought on this went to wyrven dying when the venin that created them dies. What if when the general eventually gets destroyed it causes all venin to die like the wyrven do and that is the terrible price as this kills xaden ( slash brennan with his venin subduing rune tattoo)

I’m thinking either an “all-knowing” thing BUT with a limitation that she only knows before anyone else (she seemed more pissed in FW that she was out of the loop than X lying. She took his intinsic thing much better cuz she realized she wasn’t the last to find out this time)
ORRRRR time slowing/super speed. She spent all the first half of the book running because she NEEDED to be faster, to survive the venin draining the earth she stood on, to be fast enough to get to her friends in time during battle.
My biggest fear in Empyrean is that Violet's second signet is going to be more underwhelming than I thought and disappoint me in a sense that I wish it were something else.

I'm curious if her second signet has anything to do with her eyes. It's mentioned so often, especially in the bonus chapters, that they keep changing (kind of like Andarna's color?). At the beginning of FW her mom says they're pale, Xaden describes them as hazel at one point, then all of a sudden they're bright blue. I wonder if that's something her connects to Andarna's color change. But I also like the idea that you can't lie to Violet. That Xaden played this stupid, “ask me” game through the whole second book to test that....
When I read the blurb, I also connected the secret that could destroy everything to Xaden being a Venin. That's actually a pretty big deal for the rebellion and all their connections with their (potential) allies.
Following the intinsic theory: what if the reason Violet doesn't go mad with everyone's thoughts because she's constantly shielding? Xaden can't use his abilities if he's shielding
Don't forget when Liam almost died when Violet saved him earlier in FW... just because something has happened to them and they survived initially does not make them safe!!
With regards to who travels on this “quest”, I don’t think it’ll be Rhi/Ridoc and the usual Scooby gang. I think Violet, maybe some higher ups from the revolution, Mira, and Cat. I think they will want to present “delegates” from each “faction” (so Marked ones, rebel leaders, Poromish leaders, gryfon flyers and dragon riders) alike.
I definitely think they’re going to find a way to bring up wards in Aretia that allow griffon riders to use their powers

My theory is violet can walk in peoples mind when they have their walls down. She can see from their eyes and hear their thoughts because she needs information. I don’t think it’s same as reading peoples thoughts. Its based on the throne scene and her saying she needs information to ground herself.

Zoe could see what someone was going thru and then need to help them thru it, maybe Violet will be the same as she is the only one who can see said truths? Violet has a unquenchable thirst for knowledge her NEED is knowledge to base all her decisions on. She has Pure Power that she chooses to wield as lightening. That untapped pure power is infinite that thrums through her.. she doesn't have one signet nor just 2 signets... she wields ALL signets whenever she may choose. I believe that is Andarna's gift and why she is without a doubt trusting Violet to wield. Andarna is the Unicorn Pegasus of Dragon kind and I bet is the Royalty of Dragons. Andarna is a Empress Hense the name of the series.. Empyrean.

“They need an army, they need power, they need magic” (Venin have army, power, & magic). We know Xaden is great at playing both sides (secretly being in the revolution before that was revealed.) What if he does the same thing with the Venin. Surely he’s not the only Venin that doesn’t want to be Venin. Violet finds a way to “control” the venin. Maybe in papa Sorrengails research. Then what if he creates a Venin army to help battle against the Venin.

I think Aaric or Halden will have to go on this trip. They will need someone to speak on the half of crown to make any deals. I think if xaden goes we will see Garrick or Bodhi to go with him. Xaden is going to need one of them at least on this trip.
Nicole - I will die on the mountain with you. I think Violet is full Inntinnsic. Since chapter 1 of fourth wing Violet needs information. Andarna says I choose you because you have a heart of rider but a mind of scribe. And of course that throne scene. Lexi make a good point about Inntinnsic losing control and even Xaden had hard time holding his shit together, But it took weeks for Xaden to build shields. By the time Violet second manifest she had made shields to block varrish and Dan. For Xaden use his Inntinnsic signet he needs to let shield down. He shielding from everything is also Shielding her second signet? I think she going to be full Inntinnsic, not only see the truth , know what they feeling, what people want do ( goals). I think she going to be more Rhy form acotar , a Daemati can enter, control, destroy and read peoples’ minds. What I think a full Inntinnsic could be capable.
A lot of people think the storm part of Onyx Storm, is bad thing. Yes Xaden said what they build needs to withstand a Storm. But Storm’s have been a theme since forth wing chapter 2 - “ Violet Sorrengail,” I answer as thunder cracks above me, the sound oddly comforting. Then at the end of iron flame Lilith summon a storms to in power violet. Imbuing her favourite weapon.

So I am definitely hoping to see her get more violent and show the world why she deserves her nickname.
