I think they're having a hard time pertaining to the other using formal terms and that's why they're inconsistent. (-goon, -ya, -ie, -ssi, etc.) One day, they're close, the other, they're not. It's really a push-and-pull relationship that they have. It must be really hard, especially with those idols who publicly announces that they like Dara or GD. It must be heart-breaking to be forced not to say that he/she is yours.
