Sounds good, but some mentors and preceptor are abusive. Do you have a video about the things they can and cannot do? I hear some students working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week because she's afraid of "failing" that rotation.

Other Tips Not Mentioned (will continue to add as they come up in the comments):
    1. Only use your Cell Phone for looking up Information (if a computer is next to you, use that instead)
    2. Pay attention during Rounds / Conversations
    3. Routinely sleeping at rotations is NOT okay
    4. Started yelling at a preceptor during a journal club saying they were asking difficult questions to someone who's "not a doctor"...
    5. Not being prepared for discussion or journal clubs or presentations
    6. Student invited one of the technicians in the pharmacy to a party then drank and almost got in a fight with them at the party
    7. Constantly snacked while working and smacked her lips... is NOT okay

The dress code also applies to guys, as well. I know of students that wore flip flops and severely wrinkled clothes during a hospital rotation. No matter how hard-working the student is, the appearance will completely guide everyone's perception of them.
I think the bottom line for all rotations is to treat it as a 6-week long interview. This includes rotations that aren't in the student's preferred area of practice. I know of a student denied an interview to a residency program because the director was friends with a retail pharmacist that precepted the student and said he was atrocious. Never burn a bridge.

Thanks for the tips! I was not clear in my video but yes I mean this for both females and males.

Just to piggy back on the street clothing things. There may be times when you are allowed but that’s up to the preceptor.
Example I had a rotation at a methadone clinic where part of the rotation was traveling to patients homes and providing them with clean and safe injection kits and take back red boxes for used syringes and be a monitor while the patients shot up heroin to make sure they don’t die of aspiration or overdose.
The preceptor told us to make sure we dressed in street clothes because the patients would be afraid of people wearing professional clothes and that we don’t want to be mistaken for law enforcement.

Protect your preceptor’s ego at all costs

That's the damn truth. I guess it helps fuel their ridiculous egos when they rip into students.

Dont text or access your phone on rotations!

Not necessarily the case. Micromedex or drug reference apps are handy to have on your phone. Just ask your preceptor before using it and let them know that you're using the app and not texting.

Good point! I have heard from many colleagues this has become worse as each year passes by.

Not necessary unless you have a task at hand in the retail setting.

This is very helpful and could also apply to work in general (not just rotations). Thank you! 😊

in regards to the dress code, describing showing cleavage and wearing short skirts as “looking like you came from the strip club” was very misogynistic. men can’t take women seriously if they show more skin? women should be taken seriously regardless of what they wear. why do women have to accommodate for the lack of self control by men?

It's not about men taking women seriously. It's about showing respect for others. Dressing inappropriately shows a lack of respect for others in the workplace. I'm female, straight, and in no danger of losing control around some boobs, but I still would having trouble taking someone seriously with their bits and pieces popping out. If you've got it, flaunt it, but maybe not at EVERY opportunity.

    Things I've heard/seen
    1) Person was routinely sleeping at rotations
    2) Started yelling at a preceptor during a journal club saying they were asking difficult questions to someone who's "not a doctor"...
    3) Thought HIV was an autoimmune disorder
    4) Did a journal club on a single drug and didn't know what the BBW was for the drug or that the drug even had one
    5) Student invited one of the technicians in the pharmacy to a party then drank and almost got in a fight with them at the party
    6) Constantly snacked while working and smacked her lips...
Yeah there's a lot more but students please don't do these things

    Hi Paul !
I am a pharmacy student. Do you think that pharmacy jobs are boring ? I have heard many negative things and started to have doubts. Are there any jobs that are not so much routine or that are rewarding ?

One of my fellow students literally WALKED through the laboratory holding a vessel with concentrated phosphoric acid just to make sure he got the color and texture and what not right. Let me tell you... my professor LOST IT. 😂😂😂 she’s an elderly lady who’s really intelligent and kind but that one time... I was so scared 😀😀😀 Don’t think he will make it to even experience any rotations but yeah.. thats my Story 😂
