“Who’s idea was this?” Is one of the greatest lines I’ve ever heard in a movie. Earlier in the movie at the grasshoppers home, a grasshopper mentions to Hopper that they don’t need the food the ants lost, so why should they even go back there. Hopper engages with his idea momentarily, only to crush it so he never has another idea again. Hopper explains that they need to drive the ants hard and not allow mistakes to go unpunished to establish his dominance and maintain control. He recognizes that the ants outnumber them 100 to 1, and knows that if they ever recognize that, the grasshoppers will lose control. Hoppers is only able to control the ants because they believe the grasshoppers are stronger. When they rebel, he understands what happened and how it endangers his control: someone had an idea.

More often than not they will still make an example of you to the others. It takes a critical mass of individuals to be disciplined enough to not think of themselves and act in unison. Likely the only way that happens is people rally around a leader (or another bully) to depose the former bully.
When Hopper knocked Flik to the ground, he knew that the ant was right. Hopper’s return to Ant Island was really out of fear of the ants standing up to him and his gang. After the bird and Flik confessed that it was his idea, Hopper knew that this ant - the same ant that stood up to him was trying to be a hero. He originally wanted to set an example by squishing the Queen, but since the bird - he would squish the one who came up with the idea. (Also at 2:50, Molt literally jumps out of his old skin!😂)

"They're just ants" There's also a flea, a caterpillar, a ladybug, a walking stick, a rhinoceros beetle, a black widow spider, a moth, a praying mantis and a couple of pill bugs.
That reminds me of Ice Age 4 when Captain Gutt sarcastically said, "I Asked For Warriors & All I Got is Kitty Cats & Bunny Rabbits!" and then Flynn jumps in and says, "And a Seal & a Kangaroo!"

His little spunky sidekick is Richard Kind, a fantastic comedian. Princess Atta is Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, from Seinfeld. The stick bug (I can't remember the character's name) is David Hyde Pierce, or Frasier Crane's brother Niles. As a kid I never cared, but as an adult and a massive movie buff, I'm realizing that this movie has an absolutely STACKED cast and it's fantastic.

2:56 I love how Hopper gets hit so hard by a rock that's so small, he gets knocked over and on the ground (How can something so tiny/small, hit Hopper so hard, he's on the ground?)
Plus if that was a rock, you also have to remember that Hopper’s an insect so a rock would knock him over no matter the size, unless the rock was big enough to crush him.
I love how it showed that even if he was alone, he was going to stand up for the colony. When he started his speech there was no one behind him. He probably wasnt even trying to start a revolution. He just got tired of being pushed around by literally everyone and finally said what hes been thinking all this time. Hes a thinker. He probably was just too afraid to say it especially since no one ever listened to him. And he chose to use his potentially last breath to say it. He knew thats what it was too. He expected consequences.
He decided to use the one last chance he could to show that he was only ever trying to help the other ants. They just never saw it that way until he gave his great speech
2:20 People of ant island, hopper has persecuted our people ransacked our island and now he’s declared war on the gates of heaven. Will we allow it?! (Hunchback of Norte dame reference)
The thing about hopper is he knew the ants outnumbered the grasshoppers, when Flik stood up to him earlier it made him realise that his dictatorship over the Ants will come to an end if the rest of them do what Flik did and stand up to him.
Another interesting detail I’ve noticed about this film is that Hopper never once called Filk by his own name, he doesn’t say “Well well if it isn’t Filk” or anything like that. It strengthens the idea that Hopper only sees him as a nobody, nothing but an insignificant worthless ant who was the first to truly set him off.
Goes to show us that if it wasn't for Flik, then the ants all still would've been slaves to the grasshoppers for the rest of their lives and even end up executed by them later on.
The scene where Flik gets beaten to a pulp by Thumper reminds me of the part where General Mandible tortured Weaver from Antz. Only thing is that Antz is SO much darker than this movie.
Nope. Moral of the story is Capitalism is Evil, Socialism is the only way to liberate the workers. "It's you who need us, we're a lot stronger than you are... And you know it" "Proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains" - Karl Marx and Engels Unions make Us stronger against.
I think the whole scenario is that if Flik hadn't returned to the anthill, the grasshoppers would have tied and held down the queen for Hopper to successfully squish her while keeping the ants from saving her, then Hopper would have become king and enslaved the entire colony for life even if they outnumber the grasshoppers 100 to 1, forcing them to pick all the food and keeping them from eating at all or leaving Ant Island, which would conquered it into Hopper Island, and would order each grasshopper including himself to squish any ant who gets caught eating, refusing to work, or trying to escape. Basically all the ants would eventually die by starvation or execution. Thanks to that one grasshopper who blurted out Hopper's plan and Dot overhearing it all, Hopper failed miserably and that cost him big
The ants would've died. Remember the guy who was counting the rations said that they couldn't give up any more food or they would starve. And Hopper was planning on killing the queen and taking all the food left on the island. So the ants never would've made it through the winter season. Flik literally saved all their lives

2:56 I love how Hopper gets hit so hard by a rock that's so small, he gets knocked over and on the ground
(How can something so tiny/small, hit Hopper so hard, he's on the ground?)
Those weren’t rocks. That was the rollie pollies. Tuck and Roll. They can accelerate their speed before they hit Hopper. And there are two of them
@@jchandlersabeast i thought those were small rocks, pebbles, I didn't think that was Tuck and Roll until I paused it before Hopper got hit
Plus if that was a rock, you also have to remember that Hopper’s an insect so a rock would knock him over no matter the size, unless the rock was big enough to crush him.
Now what IS funny is he just said “where are you going? They’re just ANTS!!”
Proceeds to get a concussion by severely smaller rollie pollies.
0:20 was a way of Hopper saying alright, you asked for it

Thumper: You’re Dead 😵 Meat 🍖
@@dong.corleoneWhat do you think Thumper was doing to Flik?
If only people stood up to the government like this
Eh, while revolution is a nice romantic idea in fiction, in reality it pretty much never works out well for a country in the long run.
I’ve heard of strength in numbers but this really highlights it
You definitely got that right
This makes me also think of our lions and hyenas fight each other
If there are enough lions to protect the carcass, hyenas will eaisly steal it from them
@@FiFaFan390 from what I’ve heard, a group of hyenas can take on one lion but two lions is another story.
I've never understood how people can say this is one of Pixar's bad movies. Look at this scene!
2:20
People of ant island, hopper has persecuted our people ransacked our island and now he’s declared war on the gates of heaven. Will we allow it?!
(Hunchback of Norte dame reference)
*Hopper:* "Come back here, you cowards!"
_IRONY!_
Perfect example of "Majority is not always right"
Matthew 7:13-14, Matthew 7:21-23 and Mark 8:36 comes to mind.
The thing about hopper is he knew the ants outnumbered the grasshoppers, when Flik stood up to him earlier it made him realise that his dictatorship over the Ants will come to an end if the rest of them do what Flik did and stand up to him.
And in his own rage, he forgot hos own lesson.
When the grasshoppers take off, Hopper yells "They're just ants!" Then he gets trampled by them.
0:44 I Like How They’re Shocked 😮
When you realize that ants are physical strong enough to overpower something of their size, like an ant would brutalize a grasshopper in a fight
0:32 this is why Molt needed to be redeemed
What do you mean
Another interesting detail I’ve noticed about this film is that Hopper never once called Filk by his own name, he doesn’t say “Well well if it isn’t Filk” or anything like that.
It strengthens the idea that Hopper only sees him as a nobody, nothing but an insignificant worthless ant who was the first to truly set him off.
You got a point here
Woody: Good roar, Rex.
Cream: Thanks, Sulley.
Rex: Thanks, Woody.
Sulley: No problem.

NO! BAD GRASSHOPPER! BAD GRASSHOPPER GO HOME!😠😡💢
Flik did something right to correct his past mistakes as a true hero, inspiring others to stand up against others like Hopper.
And what sacrifice half the ants for victory
Goes to show us that if it wasn't for Flik, then the ants all still would've been slaves to the grasshoppers for the rest of their lives and even end up executed by them later on.
@@VampireFan-rf5kb And if they had fought the grasshoppers half the ants would be killed

Viva La Revolution!!
The scene where Flik gets beaten to a pulp by Thumper reminds me of the part where General Mandible tortured Weaver from Antz. Only thing is that Antz is SO much darker than this movie.
"A Bug's Life" is way better than "Antz," though.
Antz was more geared towards the late teens early adults. Bugs life was more geared towards younger kids and pre teens.

3:07 That roar was a perfect timing
2:50 Even though that's his old skin, Molt would've given the description of his soul leaving his body a long time ago.
