Even in Arabic rabb/رب doesn't necessitate worship. For example you can call the Father "rabbul bayt" meaning "the lord of the house" and it's not haram.
Yes rabb is no longer allowed to be used as a form of address. However in Surah Yusuf you can see the way it used to be used for slave masters or the main man of the house.
