They were spawning or getting ready to, that’s why they act like this, i’ve seen it before and in much larger numbers, Nassau grouper though but is pretty much the same fish.

Back in the early 2000's maybe 2002 we were diving lobster of the marquesas, I grabbed 2 red grouper that day, think noodling just with red grouper and I thought those 2 were the dumbest ever until 10 minutes ago when I watched this masterpiece.
That was my favorite pair of gloves of all time until they ended up shredded. I sewed them back together until there was nothing left. Any chance you can tell me where I can find some? I’ve searched for years and can’t.
Curious if all those reds get together and create those big beds/ low spots in the sand. Very similar looking to what the freshwater bass tilapia and pan fish make before spawning. Could grouper be doing the same thing
I've always thought Red Grouper would be a good candidate for aquaculture as it's not uncommon for them to have no fear of humans like this even in areas where they are hunted. I definitely think they were getting ready to spawn based on how they were acting and having witnessed a number of grouper spawning aggregations over the years.

When a diver is directly under my boat it just fills the screen with what looks like a giant school of baitfish from top to bottom. It just reads the bubbles.
I have a question maybe you Dan or someone can answer. Why do the groupers loose their color when you spear them so fast? Been wondering that for a lot of your videos. Thanks again
Some fish and other animals have what are called chromataphors in their cells which give off coloration . So think of it when you turn your TV off what happens....when there is no power controlling the TV no color. Same as in these cells. They fade out or shut off.

He is diving under a Commercial license to collect fish for a Fish Market that sells to high-end restaurants so there will be fresh FISH on the menu when you show up for dinner . He cannot keep any of what he gathers as they all MUST be sold to the Fish Market .
@@drostly3220 He fills his own tanks , and not on the water . He uses different breathing mixtures depending on the depth of the dive , and the setups are ready to be used when he leaves the dock . He carries enough on-board for a 3-5 day trip and has 2-4 other divers working with him .
It is a hard rubber block from Harbor Freight used for the back end of big trucks that he cut a chunk off of and drilled holes in the proper places . Be sure it is wet when drilling and measuring to get a snug fit wet for the outside of the Powerhead blanks .
Rich has an interesting breathing technique...reminds of when I hadn't enough fiber in my diet.
Or he was on a heavy creatine diet and forgot to drink lots of fluids.

during this dive, the breathing can not deeply, look there is pressure layer pushing out inside, this always happen in the deep dive, don't know why.
