I learn just as much watching how to draw as i do for the watching the brush work ,thank you for your free time Charles my art has come a long way following you
Your tips are like comfort food. You know I got a watercolor book from the library and the first demo was a sky with 3 different colors wet into wet. My final gray exploded out of control. Your tactics are much more solid building blocks and keep me coming back to what works.
Another great video, Charlie, as always. Those mutts get in everywhere don't they?! For anyone reading this who hasn't got Charlie's books - they are well worth the investment. I have a very battered copy of the 'pocket book' that literally goes everywhere with me in my watercolour bag. Santa brought me the new Watercolour Rescue book and together they cover anything you need to know - cheap as chips, too.
When I first got interested in art it was through watching another reasonably famous artist and he got a big bundle of his brushes and said "You don't need all of these." and threw them in the bin (retrieved them later, I bet.) He suggested - a wide flat brush, a no. 10 sable, a 6 sable, and a nylon rigger. So off I went to the local art shop and asked about the no 10. sable only to find they didn't stock them. They could order one for me at £138, I think it was. With that I withdrew from the shop and any idea of painting. A couple of years passed before I saw Charles in a TV series and that's when I started because then I knew I could afford it and if it hadn't worked out, my loss on the equipment wasn't that much. Thank you Charlie. I have bought other brushes since and expensive ones just to see what the difference was, but in all honesty, they make no difference whatsoever. The difference is the artist using them and the excellent guidance he/she gets from experts like Charles. (I still cringe at the sight of your pallet though. 😝🤢🤮😂)
Hi Charlie, just watched a video of you painting in a hall in 2002. As usual there were lots of jokes and great painting but seeing you do a section on specific brush "strokes" (I use the term loosely) to do different grasses and trees was great. Wish I'd found painting earlier.
Absolutely amazing; well explained fantastic tutorial indeed, love the way you layout the colours with the open brush it gives a real impression even the last leaves hanging on the trees . Thanks so much . Charles , amazing artist 🎨
Hi Charles, another great watercolour demonstration …coupled with your “artist licence” to create a wonderful snow scene. As you explained, once you have your reference drawing on paper you can actually paint any season you choose. Best regards, Wayne 😀👍
Just put the tree up today with my lovely granddaughter, and then a snowy scene from the lovely Charles! now I am definitely feeling christmassy ;) All the best to you and Gail.
Hi Charles! I love your paintings & videos! As a bonus to what I learn from you, I also get to see some of the places up there which my late Geordie friend (from Tyne & Wear) who immigrated here to the USA before I was born, used to tell me about, such as Holy Isle (Everyone should have a Geordie friend!)
Great tip about painting the whole sky and then taking paint out later - even when dry. I didn't realise this was possible. I learn so much watching your videos - just need to put into practice 👍
Hi Charles. Peter from Noosa Australia. Just a quick note, as always great painting. I just wanted to wish you and all your family and friends a great Christmas. Ihave had an enjoyable year watching and learning. For this I sincerely thank you. Looking forward to more next year. ❤❤❤ Still on track to be in England in may, hope to catch up. I promised you payment for all this coaching in the pub. Thanks for now , Remember to be bad, it’s more fun than being good.😊😊😊
Thank you Charles and Gail, i wish we had some snow here as it is so hot, but it is of course summer now….gail please get better soon….much love always from South Africa

I like how Charles focuses on the drawing first, even down to the twigs on the trees. I never underestimate the importance of the initial stages. Some artists draw in the tree detail later with a rigger, but I find that unless you map out where they are, they can look a little ‘clumsy’.
I love following your demonstrations and, because I use watercolour pencils, I bought your ’Quick and Clever ….. ‘ book. The step by step paintings are so easy to follow. After watching this snow scene I wonder if you could find the time to do a similar demo using watercolour pencils? I’ve tried using them to reproduce your wc demos but not very successfully. Thank you 🙏🏼 by-the-way, my mum was a Brummie and my dad was from Surrey, so my siblings and I always use both long and short vowels. I love your accent 😊
I’m trying to paint this because I really love it , but I don’t have the blue cobalt and the light colour you were using here , any suggestion what can I substitute? Or should I buy the appropriate colours, thanks so much .
¡Eres genial! Me encantan tus acuarelas pero ¿Cómo haces para encontrar los colores en tu paleta? Me maravilla que los encuentres y que de esa paleta salgan acuarelas con esos colores tan bonitos y perfectos. Saludos desde España
Charles, in a future video, would you please tell us about 2 of your paint colors that I don’t see are offered anymore. Mediterranean Sea and British sea. What do they look like and why are they no longer available?
Charles how explaine myself ,when you do the drawing first and tape it when it's done could you give us some idea of the size of the overall size of end painting thanks
@@charlesevans7706 no, it's in the transcript, I know it's not been translated right, I just thought it was funny, theres a few bloopers in there, but it made me smile.
Thank you Charles for sharing your talent. I love to watch you paint.
You’re very welcome.

Ahahaha, I’m soo pleased you carried on painting.
Would the artist you refer to be Alwyn Crawshaw? I have his DVDs and he threw a whole collection on the floor, saying you only need a 10 and a 6!
@@Sherlock2022 That's the man. Size 10 sable indeed! 🤣 I'd need to remortgage the house for those, especially the expensive brands that I was quoted.
Ahahaha, my palette is a beautiful disaster!!
