It's funny you bring up Dwayne Guthridge and his notch back. I remember seeing that car at E-Town quite a few times and it launching so hard that all 4 tires would leave the ground when the rear bumper hit the track.
As an owner of a muscle truck. I can firmly say the nitto nt555 r2 is the "worst" drag radial in terms of all out drag time and grip. But it is the "best" street radial. Ive been caught in rain storms (above 60 degrees f mind you.) and I put about 10k miles annual on them they last and they do well. Even drove in sub 40 degree weather and they do fine. A mickey t can't do that. However a nitto won't trap like a m/t will. For me it's the nitto all day. Should I get some side money though? I'll get another set of rears for those bracket days!
@@SrtifiedHawk slower than shit. Moved to Georgia in November. Before then it was in Cali and I had a stock lq4 swapped with 4l80e. Check out the build @nomadic.wheelman. Got a L92 on the shelf now. Ran a 13.4 @ 98 cause I left too softly. Stock 10 bolt 3.73 gears
@@ZackNakazora1 well I think you need to get your suspension right because I've put down some big power on those nt555r2 on a street 20" wheel setup. I was pleasantly surprised with them. They're literally my favorite radial for street duty but yes the et street r is one of the best at the track.
@@SrtifiedHawk I certainly do. All I have are stock springs. No traction bars and belltech shocks with shock extenders. I got some vikings on the shelf and a shock relocation kit from Vas and looking at caltrax
I race a Vega that's not tubbed, so I have very little room for tires. Hoosier 235 DR2's are so far the best I've tried (including M/T street SS, street R, and Hoosier Quick Time Pro). Also running 1.5 60'. I got used to changing when arriving and leaving the track when I ran slicks, so not being able to use them in the rain doesn't bother me.
The one in the video and that is currently on the Silver Bullet is the Mickey Thompson ET Street R which you can find here: www.steeda.com/mickey-thompson-et-street-r-drag-radial-tire
You guys just delivered your trident wheels to me and a set of Nitto 555RII drag radials to me this weekend. Can't wait to get to the track now and try them out. I am tagging you guys on my channel with them. Great content guys, thank you.
On a stock suspension car with no adjustment would you recommend a radial or slick? I know with radials you want separation, which I assume would definitely require adjustablility?
A radial. Yes, a radial would prefer separation but you're still going to be faster with a radial in compression on stock suspension. Unless your car is making a ton of horsepower, a slick is going to take a lot of the speed away. Our drag car has been 8s on a radial just fine as you're not going to see as much separation on an IRS car.
Everyone says Bias-Ply for manual transmissions...I tried the Nitto NT555R2 drag radials at the track with my MT82 and they hopped terribly. I'm lucky I didn't break parts.
Disappointed Guys ! Your Head-Line sort off indicated a back to back which is what i have come to expect from you guys, more of a sales pitch type off assessment.

enjoy the video thanks for putting Dwayne out there had a chance to meet him back in 2003 Wonder nice guys ever met in Bowling Green Kentucky
Always enjoy these vids! Great as always!

Never heard of the term muscle truck. Is it new?
Good video, but you should have gotten into the wheel/tire sizes and how the radials give you those larger wheel diameters.
I like the Hoosier DR2 28" x 16" They dead hook on the track(1.5 60')and drive perfect even with lower tire pressures. Just not for when it's raining.
Same here i wish i could post a picture of my truck with those but they work amazing awsome 60 ft and very stable on a heavy truck 💯💯

At what point would you switch from radials to slicks? I mean as far as I know there are no radials in TF, FC or Pro Mod.
Exactly what I was looking for in a tutorial thanks
You say the mickey thompson drag radial is best. You point to the one in the video. Well which model? They have 4 different drag radials
The one in the video and that is currently on the Silver Bullet is the Mickey Thompson ET Street R which you can find here: www.steeda.com/mickey-thompson-et-street-r-drag-radial-tire
What would you recommend for a no prep tire?
I would guess, just a super grippy tire?
What air pressure do you run in the drag radial
different for each car
Might be good to start around 15psi and remove 1psi at a time til you find what works best for the car & tire combo. Hope it helps!

Here it is Sam. A huge thank you to the whole Steeda team.
For a dedicated no prep car should I be on slicks or radials
Slicks for sure. Your gonna be dealing with plenty of different obstacles while no prep racing. I suggest slicks for no prep racing !!
My car was tuned by big daddy guthridge
. He knew how to make a car sing!

Would the micky Thompson do well with an mt82 car

If you wanna run a radial in a manual car you need to slip the clutch! Use the clutch to manage power off the hit.
