Switzerland Battles Flooding and Power Outages After Severe Storms.
Severe weather wreaked havoc across much of Switzerland on June 26th, 2024, prompting warnings and causing disruptions. The cantons of Schaffhausen and Vaud were particularly hard-hit, experiencing power outages and flooding.
Schaffhausen saw a partial power outage, leaving residents without electricity for a period of time. Meanwhile, the situation in Vaud was more critical. Fixed network outages plagued nine municipalities, cutting off communication channels.
The heavy rain also led to significant flooding. In Liestal and Morges, floodwaters caused damage and required emergency intervention. Firefighters in Morges and the surrounding areas were especially busy, responding to nearly 210 calls for assistance after the severe storm that struck around 6 pm the previous day.
The impact of the storm extended to air travel as well. Geneva's airspace was temporarily closed, likely causing delays and disruptions for flights.
While the full extent of the damage remains unclear, these reports paint a picture of a widespread weather event that caused significant inconvenience and potential property damage in Switzerland.
