AREA 51 NEEDS A NEW BLACK MAILBOX

- This is a video showing the drive from Las Vegas to the Tikaboo Valley on Groom Mine Road. Please don't worry if you don't like the music it's just in the beginning. I'm sorry I haven't been posting videos, but I've been very busy. I still have a lot of video from August thru November, but jumped ahead to new video. I can tell you for certain that there is no sniper on the so called sniper hill. I hiked the hill to see if I could get something on video. As I was trying to get as close as I could on a very very steep mountain. I noticed that I had accidentally crossed over the line, and more then just a few steps.
As most of you know the black mailbox has been missing for years. Tour companies have been putting up plastic black mailboxes. Only to have parts of the box stolen. A person who lives in Rachel built a black mailbox very similar to the original one, but out of wood. The bottom part of the box is already broken off, and stolen. I am going to build a heavy steel black mailbox like the original one. I'm going to set the post with reinforcing steel welded onto the post deep into the ground then cement it in. The box to Steve Medlin, and the other box to the aliens will be out of 1/4" plate. If you would like your name welded onto the new black mailbox under people who helped put this here. Go to my PayPal account in the description or on my homepage. Donate 50 dollars or more, and I'll weld your name on the box. If you donate more then 50 I'll put your name on the top. Everyone that gives 50 I'll put in alphabetical order.
Please don't think this is a way for me to make money because it is not! I have to buy a 4'×8'×1/4" plate of steel, and a 20' length of 4"×4" heavy wall tube for the post. Cut the plate to make 2 boxes fully welded that have slots for mail, and a hinged side on each box. Then drive my service truck that gets 10 miles a gallon there, and back. Dig the hole then mix the concrete on site, and set the mailbox. Then of course PayPal has to take their cut. I just thought some of you would enjoy having your name on the new black mailbox. Let's not forget about the broken Area 51 pointer sign!

Christian, you rule, I love the black mailbox idea and just chipped in - I love that you take the initiative to provide the tourists to Rachel who want to see the black mailbox something better than the vandalized one. You showed those cool letters that people put in the mailbox in the past - that mailbox is really neat! Let's keep that part of the Area 51 lore alive!
The highlight of my Vegas vacation a year ago was renting a car and taking a drive out to Area 51. That was a sweet drive. I love going out and exploring. Thanks for the ride. Please make more videos.

Just GO! You will never regret it, it will give you memories for a life time. I crossed the ocean last May to go to the Nevada desert. What a truly special place. It is incredible. Took the Las Vegas-Death Valley-Area 51 and back to Vegas route.

Chris, what was the deal with the guy that got shot out there?
He drove past the guard shack at Mercury, and drove about 8 miles. From what they say he got out, and had something in his hand. They said he wouldn't get on the ground, and they were worried what was in his hand, and shot him.

Love the views, keep em coming. I think what you referred to as a lake, is actually a flood plane that hasn't flooded in ages. In fact, in the early 70's I was traveling with my parents on 395, (could've been 375) and there was a panorama of water on the desert floor almost reaching the highway. Water as far as one could see; I don't think it has poured rain like that since then. Outside of locals to the area, not many have seen large swaths of desert covered in water.
There is actually many places in the desert that flood as far as the eye can see, but it's only 5 to 6 inches deep. The area I showed was part of the lake system at one time. The worst rains we've ever had was in 88 when Lake Mead went over the spill gates.

Hey Christian, I'm headed out to area 51 tomorrow and every time I go out there I always binge watch your videos. I miss the new videos man. I don't get to go out there very often cause I'm in SLC. Yes you could use Neon Vacation. I thought of waterjetting the names in then welding a plate behind it. Then I think people will just stick their stickers over it. If I weld the names on then it would be really hard to put stickers over a 1/4" weld. I'll be keeping an eye on it also. Hey Christian, I've been a fan of the vids for a little while now. Me and a friend did the Mormom Well road run late at night late last year that connects 95 and 93 when we were in town for work. I didn't realize how close we were to A51 until I was looking at Google maps later on, and now we are planning on coming back out that way to hopefully do a bit more dirt driving, and hopefully see the back gate, and visit Rachel. I have two tickets to the Saturday NASCAR race at LVMS that are yours, as a sort of "thank you" for the entertaining content you post. I do TV broadcast work for NASCAR so I get free tickets all the time, and would love to offer you some sort of token of appreciation if you would be interested.

I did some digging into what the specific model of the combined flir and optical "ET" cameras located at various border gates is. It turns out that those cameras are the Ranger DefendIR made by FLIR. (Capital i in the name and not a lowercase L) You can find the specs for those cameras online. Supposedly their range of view is ridiculously far.
