If you're talking about at the very beginning of the song I believe it's actually Anita Carter. I saw another video where he sung with her and I think they were recorded together.
This man was eons ahead of everyone in every genre! He was not only the most prolific great songwriter in Country Music History, but he was also Rock and Roll before Rock and Roll was Rock and Roll! When anybody speaks of Legendary Greatness, Hank Williams is hard to beat even today!
I wish they had gotten recommended the raw 8½ minute compilation of all of Hank Williams Sr's live TV performances. The one titled: "Hank Williams-Kate Smith Shows March & April 1952" uploaded by Earl Martin. It's the best quality I've found. He performs multiple songs written by himself, including a duet with Anita Carter. Her sister June Carter (Johnny Cash's future wife) introduces them. Those performances were just 8-9 months before Hank passed during the first few hours of New Years 1953 at the young age of 29.
@@kevinfarrell3121 Yeah. Pains me that we don't have more. There are two rare audio recordings of concerts/festivals he did. One is a very poor quality, but the one he did in Pennsylvania during the summer before he died was great. You hear him telling stories and jokes, taking requests, and interacting with the crowd. I think the recording is roughly around 30 minutes of an all day festival performance he did there. Mentally transports me back there, but makes me with I could physically be transported there. Such a different world, long gone. But in some ways, it feels not long gone when listening to it. Or watching those raw videos of his performances.
That girl with Hank is June Carter who became Johnny Cash's wife. Hank wrote this song in 1951. He passed away January 1, 1953 at the age of 29. Hank, Jr. was 4. Check out Hank's, "Your Cheatin Heart" "Cold Cold Heart", "I Saw The Light", "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry". My dad taught me to two-step to Hank Williams' music.
He died in the back seat of his Cadillac, on the way to a New Year's Day concert in Canton OH. No one is really sure of the time/date of death. It could have been Dec. 31 or Jan 1, since he was discovered when they stopped for gas shortly after midnight. He had a lot of issues with alcohol and pain killers, as he suffered from Spina Bifida, and was never properly treated. He was of very small stature. One of his suits is no display at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
Hank's suit is a nudie suit, named for the tailor Nudie Kohn who designed and created the flashy outfits favored by so many country western stars well into the 80's or 90's when a more subdued look from the young up and comers took over.
My Dad played this song as an intro to meeting my Mom. He and my Mom were both crazy about horses, and he was a trainer at the time. He'd seen my Mom around the riding trails and wanted to meet her. He used this song and a beautiful horse named Bingo, and the rest is history- my brother came along in 1957, and me in 1959. Hank Sr had such a promising career ahead of him. It's a shame he left us way to soon. His son, did pick up his mantle and create some good sounds of his own. Two legends.
A little trivia: this was from the Kate Smith Smith Show. 1951 I think. The stage manager for that show at the time was Fred Rogers who would become famous later for Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.
Hank Sr died when Jr was about 3 years old... Check out their song "There's a Tear in my Beer"... Gotta be the official video... You get two for one... Jr covering his father's song, with some Original Sr footage dubbed in... Pretty impressive for 1989 technology... Sr is one of the biggest influences in country music history....
There’s also “I’ll Never Get Out of this World Alive” with the three Hanks. They took Sr’s recording then Jr and his son added their vocals to it. They released an album called “Three Hank: Men With Broken Hearts”.
