    Waymo did fine, you were a nervous wreck. Waymo had the right of way when it started to do that right turn, it did NOT cut off that other driver, the other driver went into the intersection AFTER Waymo started its turn. It drives "over the middle line" sometimes just like every human does, it's doing so to keep space from the parked cars.
    You also exited the car before you were supposed to because you weren't paying a BIT of attention to the instructions. The car was almost to its destination, and was telling you what to expect when you got there.

    Your commentary definitely made me more nervous than the Waymo did. On Friday evening, I rode a Lyft to a SF street festival and a Waymo back home. I will say that the Lyft driver drove way more dangerous than the Waymo did. On the way the Lyft driver cut across 3 lanes of freeway traffic and stopped on the freeway shoulder before merging back into traffic--which was SUPER SKETCH and made me fear for my life! On the way home the Waymo drove way safer and stuck to city streets. I find the Waymo cars drive more confidently and don't hesitate when there's space to go (just something you have to get used to). Overall, it was about a $7 more expensive to ride the Waymo. Not insignificant, but I found it safer than the real driver I got that day.

    This ride seemed fine. On narrow roads, it’s safer to drive in the middle of the road so you won’t get surprised if someone walks out into the road or opens their car door without looking, though you do have to quickly scooch over if another car comes, as Waymo correctly did. And it was correct for Waymo to cut-off that SUV. It’s an all-way stop, and Waymo was there first, so it had right of way. It was the SUV driver who was driving recklessly by barging into the intersection out of sequence. I would also have asserted my right of way there.

  • @林金忠
    @林金忠 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    I think Waymo had the right of way after the stop sign. I'm sure it won't crash into the SUV if the SUV was infront of it.

  • @Kwijiboi
    @Kwijiboi 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

    Dude. It has better sensors than your eyes. It isn't going to hit anything that you wouldn't hit.
    Why is it going that route? Dude, it has all the data that google Maps and waze has. It knows better than you. Also, it may be taking dead routes as it has the lowest percentage chance to get into an accident.
    Middle of the road = it can see there are no cars in opposing lanes, but it has a harder time dealing with parked cars opening doors into a waymo, so being out wide is actually safe.
    Host is making a lot of dumb comments, considering waymo has a better driving record than the host.
    I'm just disappointed by the price, which should be less than Uber/Lyft by a fair margin since it isn't paying for a driver. Guess they are recouping R&D costs.

    • @agildehaus
      @agildehaus 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @agildehaus ah, I haven't ridden waymo yet, so I don't know if they "surge" or not.
      The cool thing about their model, is that they can run as many cars as there is demand, and utilize them heavily, like domestic planes. No driver to rest, no driver to take breaks, no drivers quitting "early" or turning down routes.

    I hope autonomous cars help calibrate and align all the incredibly skiddish/passive drivers AND the really aggressive drivers to the nominal population. Like at 2:59, that's totally normal distance for everyone, this helps calibrate your own driving to see that its indeed ok and the oncoming traffic is still like 10 car lengths away. It'll help make everyone either more confident in their own driving, or more reserved if they're normally dangerous drivers.

      Prototype phase. Once it really works well, they can take them out but for now, they likely need people sitting in the driver's seat to test new functions.

      It's not cheap yet because it's new technology and they don't have too many cars to have the demand for all their passengers.

    • @mark99k
      @mark99k 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Other than at rush hour, Waymo fares are about the same as the _pre-tip_ Uber or Lyft fares, so it ends up the same or cheaper.

    • @pennytrui1149

      How many do they make compared to humans lol. How many humans died this year in traffic vs in a waymo remember they make
      100k rides a week and no one has died. I'm fairly certain waymo will get better it's new technology

    • @davehugstrees
      @davehugstrees 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pennytrui1149 There won't be a fatal accident driving around at 20 mpg in San Francisco, but people have been hit by Waymos and left in critical condition. There was a near accident just in this video. Like I said, I would avoid using one until the technology improves.

      @davehugstrees show me a link where people have been hit by Waymo and left in critical condition that's false lol. I think you're thinking about cruise which got suspended and got their license taken away. It would definitely show up in the news if it was true

    • @mark99k
      @mark99k 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@davehugstrees That was Cruise, not Waymo. Maybe get your facts straight, hm? FYI Cruise's license to operate was later revoked. Waymos are involved in far fewer accidents than human drivers.
