OMG! My sister and I had those same Purrtenders! They burned in a housefire in 1996. I am so emotional seeing this because no one else I've talked to remembers them!
Purr tender was my favorite childhood toy. I saved mine in pristine condition and then my mom gave it away without my permission 😭 I bought a used one on ebay for $50, its dirty and it smells 😔 thanks for this video 😊❤
I just bought my mom some vintage care bears for Christmas that we had when I was younger, and this video has been very helpful for me! I’ll update with how cleaning them goes :)
daydream bear is one of my favorites too! happy to see her get the love she deserves. i’m currently pulling all of my childhood care bears out of storage so this video is a great help for when i’m cleaning them!! thank you :)
I have a question. My Care Bears still have tags on them. I could still use the same laundry detergent and warm water method, just without the submerging and a lot more scrubbing....is my guess. Can you help The paper tags attached with the plastic attachment
I came by a care bear in a thrift store and it was 99¢. I bought it with the intent of repairing it or if that didn't work out just getting the belly patch. The belly patch was almost completely off. I think it was a bed time bear. I'm not sure what year it was but it had the little strand of hair.
I'm more into Popples, but I love Care Bears, too (I ship them in my stories lol ...and yes, I'm a man in his 40s---no judging!). The Purr-Tenders are nice, too. though they aren't my favorite. The black one is named Flop-Purr, and his 'sona was the duck. They never made a big version of Flop-Purr (alas!).
Submerging any plushies in water is very bad because it soaks the stuffing inside. Even if you air dry it, that's very bad for the stuffing, it makes it very easy to mold too. I recommend taking a damp cloth and wiping down your care bears. The whole reason we don't put them in the wash is so the insides don't get wet. You have to replace the stuffing in these bears at some point to be sure they don't mold.
Hi! Thank you so much for this video it really helped but my Care Bears hair is also cut off do you know how I can add it back? She’s surprise bear from 80s
I'm glad you liked the video! You could buy doll hair from craft stores and possibly glue it on with fabric glue but I have not experimented with this before and it may ultimately just damage the bear more. So possibly try it on a cheap store teddy bear first. Overall the lack of hair on the bear isn't that big of a deal as it happens quite often!
I believe all the bears in this video are from Ebay and Mercari. We were able to get the monkey because the seller didn't know what he was worth which is a rare thing but it happens sometimes. I was being really consistent with checking the listings and when you see it you gotta jump fast.
Ahh this is exactly what I’ve been looking for!! Thank you sooo much!! I have a 2003 glow in the dark “Wish Care Bear” (mint green) that’s picked up some major grime over the decades. I was looking at other vintage bear cleaning videos (mostly Mohair fur) and the one thing I noticed was that they do not recommend using a washing machine, because it can cause the filling to clump up & the fur to weaken-have you noticed this for your washes? Unfortunately, out of my ignorance, I put my bear in the dryer after placing her in the washing machine (3+ times max over the years). I’ve only been hand washing her since then & spot cleaning, but her inner filing has gotten weak in the arms and legs, and she’s starting to crackle around the neck, arms, and legs. Not sure if this is due to too much loving, from the use of the machine dryers, or if it calls for full-on restoration DIY + replacing her stuffing entirely. I’m trying to avoid that last option for obvious sentimental reasons lol. Sorry for the long message, but my question is, do you have any recommendations for preventing crackle & cleaning that also help promote the overall longevity of my early 2003 Care Bear? I’ve had her for 20 years and I want to keep her for at least twice that long in the future. How should I approach cleaning the weaker/thinner areas? Also, how do you feel about using baking soda? Thanks so much!! you’re pretty much the only expert I’ve found that specializes specifically in Care Bears, so any advice you have would be incredible!!!
I've never personally used baking soda on a care bear but I have used baking soda on a cabbage patch kid and that helped brighten the skin so maybe it would help brighten the fur. However I would try it on a small spot on the back first. I would recommend not cleaning her in the wash anymore. As far as the cracking goes I'm not sure what to recommend. Dawn dish soap does a great job at spot cleaning. If you want the bear to last for years to come I would recommend replacing the stuffing inside. Hope this helps I wish you the best!
Today I got three care bears from an antique store I got share bear year:2003 I also got Wish bear year:2003 and Tender heart bear year:2020 they are so cute :)♡♡♡
Hello! I am trying to hand wash my 1980s eeyore and bedtime carebear, im terrified they will end up getting mold in the stuffing when air drying because i cant put them in the dryer, and its cold here in utah, please please help me Eeyore has fur, polyester long fur, and very dense. I need to deep wash him and not just spot clean, and bedtime carebear is very fragile
A couple people have had concerns about mold but I have never had that problem here in Michigan washing them at all times of the year. I recommend putting them in front of the heat vent or fan and leave it for several days, turning occasionally to fully dry
I would only recommend a damp soapy cloth, nothing more because you have to be careful around any painted areas! Mr. Clean eraser would be too abrasive

lol I remember the Purrs (as I call them). The Sock-Ems (the little ones) from Burger King are the ones most people had (myself included).

@@tatumwildcat123 thank you!!
What do you use to brush them out after they’ve dried to get them fluffy again?
I used just a regular hairbrush. Nothing fancy
I like using a soft bristle baby brush. Pretty good for fluffing them up gently, considering the fabric/faux fur used on them.

hii, how can i wash the rubber face type care bears, i bought two but they're nasty and i'm scared of just washing them
I would only recommend a damp soapy cloth, nothing more because you have to be careful around any painted areas! Mr. Clean eraser would be too abrasive
