- I've created hundreds of custom team envelopes with an ancient ink jet printer (HP5550), Microsoft Word software and cheap seed/coin/stamp envelopes from Amazon.com and am sharing these "secrets" (really not that secret) within this video. I'm hoping this tutorial proves helpful to someone out there looking to pretty up their tabletop sports card collection. I'll be posting four "templates" on my Facebook Group page, "Tabletop Basketball Board Games," that should make the custom envelope creating process easier than starting from scratch. These templates will be labeled "A" thru "D." Cheers! 🏀

Rod, thank you for making this instructional video. I am happy to say I have made custom team envelopes for my 1977-78 Bank Shot Card set and I am proud of the results.
Great job, Joe. Isn't it nice to be able to find your Bank Shot teams without thumbing thru a box of cards? My journey originally started with Fast Break. I have 11 seasons (plus two home brew seasons) and they were just filed in shoe boxes. Having those cards in envelopes not only made them easier to find but a lot more fun to play. Take care. 🏀
Great instructional video! Thank you!
Glad you could decipher it, Jason, lol. Not an easy one to do as everyone's computer programs are a bit different. Have a good one. 🏀
Rod, You keep knocking it out of the park with your videos, Great Job!!!! Do you remember back in the Mid-70’s when the NBA would have a One on One tournament on TV Saturday or Sunday Mornings. I always looked forward to watching that tournament every week, It would be wild to have that on with today’s players. Take Care
Thanks again for the praise, bruinsfan. I was a little on the young side for the "One on One" competition but have watched some of those match-ups on TH-cam, including the final at Madison Square Garden between Geoff Petrie and Barry Clemens (both were Trail Blazers, with Clemens added to the team in 1974). I really enjoyed the H-O-R-S-E and Slam Dunk competitions from around 1977 and 1978 that they'd show at halftime on CBS. Have a good one. 🏀
Rod my friend, how much is a "thumb"?
Good question. For the 72-73 Lakers envelope made in this demonstration, a "thumb" is about a 3/4 of an inch gap at both the top and bottom of the card. This rule of "thumb" will vary from envelope to envelope. Have a good one. 🏀
Good hands on walkthrough. I thought I had done a lot of these but nothing compared to your stash! Glad to know I’m not the only one still rocking the 20-yr old inkjet printer…
Thanks, Larry. If it ain't broke don't throw it away, right? That inkjet has been a fantastic printer for envelopes and color photos over the years. I buy recycled cartridges, which are very inexpensive on eBay. Have a good one. 🏀
Excellent Video Rod. Thank you you for posting.
Thank you. I hope my "old school" printing methods work for you. Have a good one. 🏀
Nice
Glad you enjoyed it, Dave. Cheers! 🏀
Where do you get the storage containers for the team envelopes?
Great question, rocketj. Those containers are $1.25 each and I find them at various Dollar Tree stores throughout the Portland Metro Area (in Oregon). I use blue ones for baseball and orange for basketball. They stack well and you can't beat the price. Even if that particular design isn't available, I find that the Dollar Tree has the best prices on all sorts of storage containers. Tip: If you find a container you like, get as many as you'll need in the future because these "factory seconds" might not be coming back. Have a good one.🏀
Nice
Glad you enjoyed it. 🏀
Great video! Thanks for this. One question - what is the type/size of envelopes you use for Hoops Basketball? Thanks! Jim
You ask the best questions, Jim. Unfortunately, that's the one set of cards I don't have envelopes made for yet. The cards are larger than the typical card. I have them lightly rubber banded (by division) and mostly in a file drawer cabinet. Those orange bins in the video cost $1.25 each from the Dollar Tree and the cards do just fit into them. In short, I'm still looking for a better storage solution for Hoops cards as Hoops is a favorite game of mine. Take care. 🏀
Thanks Rod. Yeah, I saw those in the video and thought that was my ticket. At $1.25 each.......that is not my ticket :-)
