Good morning John. Just wanted to say congrats on being a Grandpa! Its the most rewarding gift you could imagine. Such a blessing. Great video as usual. John (Halkias) told me you you are bailing on the grouper trip in Florida. Don't be a weenis. I'm going. You'll have me AND Doc to keep you entertained. BTW, you have an interesting way of rigging your jig hook on the whole crab. You should spend some time on articulating that technique. Great to have you still up here this late.
All of that bait with nothing on it has been the theme of our fall run in Gloucester, MA/ most of the North Shore. Football fields of mackeral and pollock, on the shore out to 100ft of water without a bass on them
I remember fishing off Mattituck in a Craftis rental, Charlie said it's been real slow but he has some hermit crabs and I may have better luck with them, spent the whole morning on a structure with zero action on any bait, when WHAM! landed a 10lb'er, there was another boat off my starboard with 2 guys fishing, they yelled out "Yo man! Way to go! what are you using for bait? I revealed the hermits, but I only had like 2 left and couldn't share, I told them Charlie had plenty! but they didn't go in. Fished another hour or so and I moved over to the pipe line and the fellows followed me, Anchored up and WHAM! a 6lb'er and the boys yelled out "Dang Man!! you sure you cant throw a few over" I said that was my last one! I told you where you could get some" After that there was no further action, but still not a bad day 2 fish 16lb's....
John, what are the specs of the trolling motor on your boat? How long do your batteries last when you use spot lock for black fishing? I apologize if you've gone over this in one of your videos already.
Awesome, totally awesome way to go Skinner! Approximately how long were your biggest? Be nice to have some measuring reference on the yak or net or something.
Not sure if I'm loving it or getting jealous. Great video. With such a light jig, does it hold the bottom and stay in one place or it slides along the bottom a little bit? Thank you in advance.
Hey John, when fishing the surf for striped bass, how far past the breaker waves do I need to be? I'm newer to saltwater fishing but a friend of mine said that sometimes the bass will eat at your feet and sometimes you need to get as far out as you can. So my question is: how far past the breaker waves do you need to be?
The bass run on the North Fork is non-existent the last couple of weeks. I've been surf fishing on the south shore. My previous and next videos are bass vids.
@johnskinner love these reels but they’re way too heavy for me! I own two after watching your videos /reading your article on them. My wrist gets sore since it’s almost 11oz
Sorry to hear that. What reel do you use that has a stainless gear train and these capabilities that weighs less? You might shed an ounce by swapping out the metal knob with the foam one they include in the box.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I use the shimano Stradic. Two yrs of hardcore fishing and it’s still very smooth. I just rinse with water after each use. I wish tsunami had a carbon version because the reel and drag sounds and looks so cool
@ awesome, I wish they made all the skinner rods in different colors. I have 3 kids that fish and they like having their own poles that they like to use.
To get to this location with my boat would require a long run or having to launch directly into the Sound, which can be a problem if the wind comes up the wrong way. The kayak eliminates those problems. I'm not at all uncomfortable in that kayak. Less things to worry about.

From now on I'm going to refer to you as "Doc" . This man has a PHD in theory and execution. Absolutely surgical when it comes to fishing.
But, he fishes with Doc? What ya gonna call him then?
That was some quality Togs. Amazed you got that fish loose from the rock.
Another great blackfish video!
The blue and green rods remind me of the old Garcia Conolon rods when I was a kid just starting to fish
Those big males are fun to catch!
Keep up the great work John! The info you produce has helped me tremendously while fishing the Chesapeake Bay!✔
Thanks!!
John u are a beast at fishing
Nice, quality fish. Between work and this dam wind I can’t get out as much as I would like.
Great trip again! Thanks
Watching yous the only way I see fish these days . Your crazy on that little kayak in that temp
What a day.....
I'm glad you're good at fishing in cold weather. Lots of people are not.
Wow that was a nice Black Fish he must of been down there for years 😂
And he still is :-)
I'm so used to using fast action rods, it seems odd to see one that bends all the way to the butt. Thanks for another great video!

It's a strange year in many places.
Why do you like the “collar” on the tog jig. Thx for the videos and info John. Hope to meet you one day.
This guy.
I spent a lot of time and caught few fish when I had mug boat.
I loved it,though
Cold weather? It was in the 70's here in the Western Sound. 😮🙂
Not two mornings ago, but 73 this afternoon on the North Fork.
@JohnSkinnerFishing
I'm heading out tomorrow for some afternoon togging, and I hope the cold mornings brought the water temp down some.
2nd Tog - lucky Tog

I think if you tried hermits these days the sea bass would clean you out. They certainly were the best years ago.
John we need your old SS Flounder bucktails back! The new ones are really poor quality hair and hooks.
The skinner bucktails will be available next year under the Dark Matter brand. Just yesterday I got my hands on the prototypes.

It's been hot here in West Virginia John

WOW! What a black fish! It looks like later in the fall the bigger they are. Do the black fish migrate south too?
Colder weather= bigger fish
Hey John, any reason for the blackfish fishing vs. the striper fall run? Just preference or something else?

What brand of boots?

Thanks for that response!
@ for sure. Btw, I bought all of your Gulf series bucktails from J&H lol
Is the green rod available to buy?
No.
Not Keeping Keepers?
Not this trip. I had fish in the fridge.
Is that the same rod just different color?
Yes.

Why choose the kayak over the boat? So much more comfortable.
