I feel that if I’m having fun while learning languages (speaking by myself… pretending to have a different personality…😂😂) I’ll memorize and learn much faster
I once worked for a language school that used these techniques. In addition to putting vocabulary into a personally meaningful context, we had them record the sentences, phrases, etc. in their own voice rather than listening to tapes of native speakers reciting dialogs etc. I can't cite the study, but it showed students were more attentive listening to themselves.
Wow I wish I had a place like that when learning these languages :') Especially in schools I feel like the system makes students hate learning languages by complicating it even further for them
Context has always been the best way for me to retain vocabulary while learning Korean. A list of words will be something I remember short term but if I have context it has a better chance of sticking around
Thank you so much! I just found your channel and all you language advice has been EXTREMELyyy helpful!! I already know 3 languages(two of which are just my native) and now I want to learn French! If you could tell more about your Freanch journey, I'd be very thankful :)) Hope you have a great day💗💗💗
Imagination can actually be a very helpful resource when learning and practicing a new language. By the way, I think your Spanish is awesome. Have you ever considered making a full video speaking Spanish or maybe any other of the languages you know?
I mean that sounds pretty reasonable. But overall it's pretty hard to learn every new word with context. Especially if you're still in the beginning phase of learning. I would recommend to achieve a certain kind of vocabulary knowledge and then start reading texts. Children's books e. g. or children's tv shows are pretty helpful for that, because the language they use isn't that difficult. So to make it short, learn a language like others would learn it while growing up. The same way you learned your language while growing up. I mean of course it's not the same, because your environment won't speak like that, but it's still pretty helpful. And if you don't know certain words, underline them and write the translation somewhere beside the text. But you should have some basic vocabulary beforehand, otherwise your textbook will be so full of notes that it isn't really helpful anymore. I could do that with French or Spanish e. g. which I have learned for years by now (I'm still far away from fluent, but I'm able to make basic communication with others). If I would do that for Thai (which I have only recently learned; + the alphabet is completely different, I mean I'm able to read the letters by now, but it's still hard to read and understand them in sentences let alone texts, especially because Thai language does not use space between certain words. So sometimes I don't even know where one word ends and the next one begins. I need to know way more vocabulary so that this method would make sense for me), it would be way harder for me.
Thanks for the useful tips 😊 I’m terrible at learning languages. I had to learn Afrikaans and Zulu in school but I was terrible at it and forgot it all when I finished school. I also learned French 2 years in high school but forgot it all. Then I tried learning Spanish but I stopped when I started learning Korean 😂The basics of Korean was not hard but now I’m finding it difficult to improve further. My memory is terrible but I will give these tips a go, I think they should help 😊 And I just want to say you have a really pretty name. 😊
Hi Eylül, I wanna say that your pronunciation and fluency are very impressive actually. If you had not written and said your name, I guess that someone who is watching this video wouldn't be able to understand you are from Turkey :) Before this video I have just watched your Q&A video and you said that in this video you have learned English from Disney Channel literally. If I ask to you make a video about how were you using Disney Channel for your English learning journey literally, what would you say to me? :) It actually would be very useful for us who try to reaching an serious and solid advanced level of English. Thank you in advance :) Eylül merhaba, Telaffuzun ve akıcılığın oldukça etkileyici.
When I click on settings in your video there is an option called the Audio Track and there I can select six different language languages to listen to you in: spanish, italian, german, portuguese, french, english. I listened to your video in italian. My question to you: did you do anything to enable the Audio Track feature or did it just show up on its own?
@@eylulnim This is useful to me as an anglophone because there is a lot of good video content in English and as the Audio Track feature is rolled out to more creators I can increasingly watch videos dubbed in my target language that I’d otherwise have watched in English. Automatic dubbing isn’t yet available for all creators, and you can only manage it on TH-cam Studio on your computer. This feature is turned on by default. When you upload a new video, dubs will be automatically generated. To see if you have this option as a TH-cam creator, or to turn it off, go to: TH-cam Studio/Settings/Advanced settings/Look for the option: Allow automatic dubbing.
I tried something very different . Asked chatgpt to give me a passage in english and switch some high frequency words into french. So I had to guess and it worked
Thanks for this! Random question and not sure if this has been asked or answered before - Do you find your personality changes at all with each language? for example maybe your sense of humour or how you might address a certain situation
Thanks for the tips! I am currently learning Italian and German and your point about context is really important. It helps to put the words into situations rather than isolate them. I have a question though. Did you learn more than one language at one point, and if so, is it recommendable?
I hope they help! I personally never learned two languages from zero at a time and only started with the next one once I felt like I was at least intermediate in all the language I spoke at the time:)
so when doing the last step as in taking advantage of the emotional memory do you use subtitles? because iv'e been using subtitles for me to understand them as in the movie or show is in tagalong and i have dub titles on
I feel that if I’m having fun while learning languages (speaking by myself… pretending to have a different personality…😂😂) I’ll memorize and learn much faster
Exactly! And this whole time I never really thought too much into it….turns out it’s one of the best things I could’ve done lol
Haha that does sound like fun!!🤩
What language are you learning?
Based on ur pfp I'd guess Japanese or an Asian language? Am I right?

"I cried, but I learned" 😄 That's wise.
Hahahdhdhd it was a general statement apparently…

Selamlar!!! Teniendo en cuenta lo que mencionas acerca de las series. Por favor podrías recomendar series turcas de comedia. Teşekkürler
Selam!!! No sé que nivel de Turco tienes, pero algunos de mis favoritos seria; Yalan Dunya, Avrupa Yakasi o Gibi :)
Gibi puede ser un poco mas dificil de encontrar pero yo siempre lo veo en sitios ilegales jajajaj
