@skyweezynU thanks for the info, is there a 2 year contract that goes with it or a month to month service. i have to say, i m not a fan of sprint. but it looks like they are kicking up there game to compete with verizon and at&t. thos overdrive is very tempting.
@yojojonathan from my understanding, Its like a mini wifi that you get through sprint, you have to set it up on the computer, and then have a password. then your all good i guess...it sounds awsome
@CDMix12 so the data card has to be connected to wifi or anything or you can go let-s say on the road and turn it on and you have wifion your phone, laptop etc?
@lexousa UK is also light yrs ahead of the US with data plans, network speeds etc, we also have ps3 or psp go or laptops given away for free to sign up for things, no idea why the US is still is so behind in price etc..
i don't know if it's the Sierra Overdrive or the Sprint 4G service, but the two don't match up correctly, not here in Chicago (tho a Sprint rep told me it is the 4G network). 3G seems to be fine (i saw in the video he was linked to 3G) but 4G is still problematic as of 12/22/10. see if another company handles their 4G network reliably before trying Sprint, in Chicago any way.
Carlos: how can you be getting 4G coverage in NJ? According to Sprint's website, it's not available in NJ or NY. Are you picking it up from Philly? That would be impressive!
I just got a T mobile ad before the video about their 4g lte and 5g network being the largest in the US meanwhile I have no signal next to the T Mobile headquarters here in Washington lol.
Thanks for the great review, I picked one up after seeing this video. It already has better speed and much better 3G coverage than ATT. Can't wait till 4G shows up here in June. Thanks again for the informative review.
@tylr1522 First: iPhone can't access at 4G speeds. Also, if you have an original iPhone, you can't even accesss at 2G speeds. Also, the iPhone can move around, while your datacard is fixed = better signal. Also, VoIP requires a Wi-Fi connection -- lowers phone bill. Also, it's not just made for your iPhone, it allows your computers to have faster Internet access as well (and can cut DSL/cable charges). Also, it is a battery box: you can now have web access even if your power goes out!
great informational video on this. interesting that you have sprint network service but never had a phone through them. side note - What! you have your Ipad sitting on your desk like just another package and no unboxing vid? ugh!
@truedokyun lol og course there is a fee, what you think it's free? mobile data is EXPENSIVE not only do you have to buy that box but plans typically start at $60 per month, from any provider whether it be Sprint, AT&T, or Verizon.
i dont understand these mobile hotspots, like why connect an iphone to it when the iphone has signal, and if you dont have signal can you use the hotspot to make calls? can someone explain?
Wow it actually connects to satellites. :O I thought it connected to an existing internet connection from a home network then rebroadcasted it until I heard the $50 a month subscription.
That mobile wifi service is expensive. $100 for the unit (with discounts!) and $60 for the service. Here in Japan they give away PS3s/Wiis just for signing a 2 year contract. the unit is free and the service is like $45 for unlimited service. It's also a third the size of this sprint unit. The cap sucks for people who aren't in a 4G area. It's a nice service but it's too expensive. I thought it was expensive in Japan until I heard about this.
carlos it uses micro USB because its a mobile phone industry standard, just about every phone on the market has switched over to the micro USB, companies like HTC LG Sony Ericsson and samsung and more have all ditched their proprietary connecters and have switched to micro USB. The only one who hasnt switched is really apple who refuses to use micro USB and uses the 30 pin connector instead but i dont blame them just about every device they make and have made in a long time uses that connector
lol, love the teaser for a giveaway. If you do give away an iPad that would be a bit excessive but holy (bleep) would that also be generous! Looking forward to your unboxing, they are always more entertaining than other's lol
Dude, Where have you been? We need you! MPTFlyers is just not enough we need you! Arg!
Damn Carlos! I love you man! Not only are you reviewing the Overdrive, but it's your OWN active Aircard! You're just awesome....
@FunAndJokes You can take the Sprint Overdrive anywhere and get wireless internet unlike a home router though.

sprint is coming out with a new phone called the htc evo 4g that does the same thing as the overdrive but allow up to 7 users..... cool right.
does the case effect the range/speed/abilities of the overdrive?

Users close to Carlos family comfirmed he past away. Carlos R.I.P we will all? remember you bro. This page will remain as a tribute to you
So this overdrive lets you connect to the internet? Do you have to pay for the service itself?
you mentioned the $50 a month for the data plan, but what was the pricing on the overdrive itself?
carlos what ever happend to the givaway you were doing on the speck tuckpack?
reply back letting me know please
