They were able to shut down the shoplifting in Georgetown almost overnight. About 15 years ago, crowds of thieves would come down from rougher parts of Maryland and swarm the boutiques and shops along Wisconsin ave and whatnot. We weren’t about to allow that bs to happen and let criminals destroy our local economy and community so, in response, shops hired security guards, increased police presence, and began prosecuting anyone who stole/looted to the fullest extent of the law.
You can’t play around with people who feel entitled to destroy others hard work for their own selfish reasons.
These people aren’t stealing out of hunger or desperation. They are stealing luxury goods to sell to others for their own profit. It’s not abnormal to see grown men stuffing their pockets and bags full of expensive cosmetics to resell online. I wouldn’t open a franchise in Columbia heights either. I’d be too paranoid about the safety of my employees. The markup one would need to add just to cover security costs alone is astronomical. It’s not viable. The saddest part it the law abiding people who do live in areas like that end up paying more for less simply because they have the misfortune of living amongst criminals. It’s so messed up.

This is what happens when law makers protect criminals more than law abiding citizens. I saw this coming, hopefully more store owners will catch on and make the city desolate so bad that Bowser is forced out. She’s a total disgrace. I’m glad I’m not a resident of this God-awful town.

The city council is more to blame than the mayor.

Mayor Bowser can't be the blame for all crime in DC the District's high crime dose not stop bar owners from neighboring Virginia from opening their bars in the District.

@@novatotornero6508- oh please. It's not drunks stealing. It's drug addicts, uncontrollable teenagers, & various other criminals who know they won't be held accountable for their actions.

When the criminals are taking care of better than the store merchants it's time to move your businesses elsewhere. Your politicians care more about the criminals than they do the citizen that have to suffer and go without when store closures happen. Remember this when you're voting.

Interesting that Fox 5 never makes a direct correlation between the CVS closing this store and the shoplifting the store suffered. It's just heavily implied by the way the news is presented. I'm thinking the business model of having multiple locations within a short distance of each other is becoming unsustainable.

It's not like that's happening everywhere else for the same reason.
They still have stores in the area but if this continues then there won't be any left

This lawlessness that is being allowed to continue to happen and spread has to stop. It is raising the costs of goods and services that hurts everyone pocket especially those in lower income groups as well as causing stores to closes in lower income communities where this crisis of crime is rampant. The end result will be areas that are void of stores of all kinds.
It is time the bleeding heart liberals admit there being soft on crime is destroying communities and causing greater hardship and suffering to the honest hard working people who live in those communities. Politicians and police as well as the people of the communities where this uninhibited crime is taking place need to come together to fight it. This means the elimination of no and low bail for theft of any sort. Third strike rules that impose harsh punishment for repeat offenders. Mandatory penalties and sentencing for theft that the offenders acted violently. Additionally children and teens who are below the age of 18 must be held accountable for skipping / not attending school. The return of teaching civics and manors classes in schools as well as enforcing the rules and lessons taught in them starting with language and the return of detention to include not only after school but Saturdays as well. Make participation in school sports a privilege and kids who skip school, misbehave in school or get arrested for crimes are no longer eligible to participate in school sports until restitution and sentencing punishment is fulfilled. In short children, teens, and adults need to be held accountable and responsible for their actions without exceptions. In short people of all ages need to start acting like they are living in the 1976 or before. Lastly people and government need to stop blaming inanimate objects such as firearms, knives, drugs or whatever else on people’s bad behavior and place the blame and punishment on the people committing the crimes as well as mandating that restitution be made when items are stolen or damaged as well as when victims are injured.

Sad truth is as long as THE MEDIA continues to vilify police and make criminals out to be misunderstood good guys this will never change.
The MEDIA pushed their agendas and continue to do so.
How bad you think it will be when the MEDIA gets their way again and has vehicle pursuits banned? So police aren't allowed to chase criminals that flee in vehicles when trying to pull them over. Everybody will be out driving vehicles w/ no license, no insurance, no registration, no real license plates and will be armed to the teeth robbing every single store in the suburbs and valleys. Knowing cops can't chase them.
Because THAT is what the MEDIA has already begun to do. The are pushing their agendas again. They are vilifying Police while saying it is their fault some violent criminals who just carjacked an 80 yr old woman and were driving 110mph running from cops killed a person the fleeing criminals crashed into.
The MEDIA wants criminals to have free reign. Why? Because it allows the MEDIA to be constantly reporting on what iS happening. Making money. It's all about making money to the MEDIA.
Vilify cops. Get the community in an uproar. Get community to riot and loot. Go out for days on end and report 24hrs a day. Make money!!

Lol! You all won't have a single store left along the bus routes, in your neighborhood, all because you allow this to happen.
You wanna be able to get your prescriptions, your mother's prescriptions, your grandmother's prescriptions, your great Aunt's prescriptions? You all better do something about these thieves shutting down all your local stores.
It's up to YOU to do something about it.
If 6 people are running inside stealing everything in sight then you better be standing in the doorway with 10 other people to stop them!
It's your neighborhood stores you all are losing. Ain't nobody gonna deliver to you knowing they gonna get robbed if they pull up to your street.
