Hey all. I will be live streaming in 5 minutes on my new twitch account! twitch.tv/designcourse -- Give a follow, I will be live streaming here on TH-cam still, but I will be live streaming more frequently on Twitch.
Although Facebook was the biggest redesign, I like how in the Amazon one you show that small details can improve a lot of the visual result. Well done!
I don't agree with you!! there are a lot of people better than him at the design on it. and web flow is a great tool, don't worry web flow is not gonna replace talented programmers it will just remove the grind of programming, so people(programmers) will focus on more creative problem-solving and complex front end development.
@@androidanythingnbpranav7195 I hate to break it to you bud, but Webflow isn't the one doing it, you're falling for the marketing. Wordpress and Shopify are 70% of all websites, and 90% of websites that actually make money, Webflow isn't even 1%. Contrary to Webflow's BS marketing, you can definitely build a website with no code easily on Wordpress, you can just do more with code. I own a web design/development agency that mostly does business with $1 million+ revenue companies and our clients would NEVER use Webflow. They either don't know about it, or the ones that do actively ask us to never use it. It's a glorified Wix, it's only good for simple portfolio websites or landing pages.
Definitely, Amazon and FB should consider your redesigns. They are way better than they have already implemented! 😅 Btw could you do a tutorial on naming conventions, like btn-primary vs button/primary? Please 🙏🏻
You're absolutely correct, you did an awesome job of the last one. I'd really love to see and learn more about designs regarding that kind of content navigation -- or just content navigation in general! Browsing content with subcategories, yet still making it look nice, is harder than expected.
Great job, thank you. The Facebook part is very nice, the search has its own space, better than aligning the text field and the button with the left title like in 1999 ;)
while i can see the merit in adding white spaces easy reading and breathing room. but in my experience (years), many clients (and especially my boss) don't want that big white spaces. It creates too long scrolling, it's a pain to scroll etc, that what he always said. it waste space etc. in the end i have to make it tighter, reducing alot of spacing/padding. don't know about others, but that just my experience.
@@mazagoez7190 I did mention the scrolling consideration I believe -- but I think even just a few pixels of white space would be worth the small amount of extra scroll.
Really liked what you did to the Apple's slider design. The Amazon design, I liked their layout more because all the meta information is at the left. In yours I have to look at left and right and left again to read content. Obviously, the last one was the best! Really love your content.
Good concept. I liked all of them except Google. I guess I got used to it. Especially Facebook is great. (For me, it would be greater if you had redesigned the navbar)
7:05 I think putting review date on the right of review title is not good decision. The title text could go upto 100ch & it will not look good in two lines.
Great content Gary, been working as a freelance UI designer since the pandemic started and your channel has helped me truly P.S when are you dropping a workout vid
The problem with the new google is that it will only work for that specific example with one result in the view area. As soon as you get multiple results in the view, all the spacing will just blend them all, you will not be able to easily recognize where one ends and one starts.
With the netflix layout, I might have preferred to align everything to the left. That centered title doesn't really match the left-aligned text at the bottom, it's a bit awkward I think.
I agreed about the Google one needing a change, but I feel like something else needed to be done instead. I thought the others were spot-on, however, especially that Facebook one.
I think the Netflix design was alright with the text being in the centre. When moved to left it just breaks the symmetry. Apart from that the rest of the revamps were great.
Question to anyone watching this video on an iPhone 11. At 2:48 is the Netflix logo on the top right pixelated around the edges? For some reason red pixels in videos get pixelated on my iPhone...
I think you did a great job! In the Facebook page, I would have gone the extra mile and moved the horribly placed search bar nearer to where the actual places and search results be, so to the mid-bottom left. This is just bad UX in the original design.
I like all your redesign except Netflix's, I personally think the original is better because of the alignment. But i would like to see you redesign stackflow's thread page, even until today i still get confused on how to navigate stackflow's thread 😓
i disagree with what you did in netflix and google, maybe i am just used to see it and now its wierd to see the change. But facebook and amazon is amazing how such a little change make such a big difference
I agree on the Facebook design, your was way better. With the rest of them, there really wasn’t much there to work with, how do you dramatically improve essentially a block or 2 of type. Lol. I personally hate Amazon’s design, everything is cluttered and hard to find the info you want, plus the 3rd party sellers don’t really follow the guidelines. Unfortunately I thought you actually made it look worse. Meh, but that’s just me.
That's the main issue I have when I do design. Should there be no restrictions, I would add spaces everywhere and every design would look like a perfectly balanced Dribbble shot. But the point is that in the real projects you always have a bunch of restrictions, like the amount of content which is essential, the text mustn't be too widespread, if you put too much negative space, users will have to do more actions too see all the necessary content, not everyone works on huge screens etc. Definitely your versions look better, but I bet there were actual reasons why the companies had such and such elements designed like that. Except for Netflix, their choice of font hierarchy looks so weird.
I feel like there should be a transparent visual overlay(underlay?) on that blue Facebook bar. That Facebook bar looks like a 1970s enamel saucepan. It's very monotonous.
I didn't like the redesign of Netflix's form ... I think it's better to be center-aligned The Facebook redesign is very good ... but it's better to not stretch the places section to the end of the screen
The Netflix redesign looks much worse to me. The 'by the books' student-teacher design philosophy should really only exist so far as a guide. The implementation here takes away too much from the uniformity and focus point of the original design.
I've learned more about designing from all your youtube content than any other source, partly because I don't really know what sources I can trust with UI/UX. I agree especially with your redesigns because they make it easier to read the information. As a millennial here I remember as a kid and even when I was in highschool with days of myspace html, it's always been about information. I prefer clean simple non-flashy designs, not only because they appear more professional but because the ease of use, including accessibility factors.
I definitely can not call myself a designer, but I think the reason behind all these "outdated" designs of amazon and facebook are first of all because people get used to it a lot because they use it on daily basis and probably making even little tweaks is a big deal for such huge platforms and secondly specifically talking about the whitespace - if their pages and sections had more proper spacing between elements then you would have to be doing much more scrolling which is a big deal for such websites where there is so much info on all the pages.
Omg I hate their ux! Not even the design! TH-cam still don't have a search for the channel, and autoplays all, if you actually play something within the channel. Facebook mobile is catastrophic, they still don't have what twitter always had, that is to continue reading where you left off. The top bar in fb isn't sticky, you have to scroll to the top of the page if you want to go to most recents... Catastrophic experience. I guess Twitter is the only usable for mobile.
So, his final words are that Google, Netflix, Apple, and Facebook don't have good designers. Companies with hundreds of trillions worth of value need to learn from you! Isn't that so?

You could redesign the nav bar in the facebook screen shot, even that looks kind of old school due to the gradient

Love the Facebook's redesign!

That facebook redesign though... can someone send that to them and make them implement it thats actually way cooler.

Facebook Redesign is looking very great👍
That FB one was pretty neat.👍
i'm curious about the responsive "look". I like the readability ur designs have, easy on the eyes

Awesome work in all cases. There is something about the positioning of the search box in your Facebook redesign I don't like.
Amazon one was My favorite!
Improvement ok I am watching you what you do.

inspirational as always 🖤...love from Bangladesh
I loved it.....but dont you think that you placed too much whitespace after "places" label in facebook redesign
I think the Netflix design was alright with the text being in the centre. When moved to left it just breaks the symmetry. Apart from that the rest of the revamps were great.
Completely agree, but for the 4th line it's a right choice to place the text, right at the bottom of textbox.
@@pourianayeb1063 Yep, I agree!
can you do tutorials on how to code these
Hi Gary, nice, brave attempt. For FB, I like your style, but I see why FB did what it did. You can see more at a glance.
The new Facebook page is much better!

Garry made the next Facebook! 🤯🤯
Which facebook is that? facebook.com isn’t like that rn

Didn’t realize how bad Netflix homepage is 😅
I am guessing #5 is amazon.
Edit: I was wrong
sir your design always win I don't know why 🙃.
i think your facebook design awesome
cool!
Tbf nobody looks at that login fb page. Also gr8 work on Amazon.
A more fair comparison for fb would be the new feeds page (after you log in )
Nice
fantastic all of them except netflix
So coooooool
Small details make big difference
whenever someone says that my design is bad, i say that it's brutalism ✌🏼😂
Yes you can 👍
By seeing your review they might change the layout :p.

Amazon's review section has always sucked and I'm surprised how long they've stuck with that layout.
That true but amazon was pioneer for lots of best design practices in the early internet-era. .

Let's be honest, Netflix is beyond the point when their UX can be saved, they stopped caring years ago.
