Just went through hurricanes Helene and Milton here south of Tampa and power finally came back. Getting this amazing video from one of my favorite YT channels is uplifting inspiration. Thank you Doug. You are the man. (PS: I evac'd with just my dog, my Marshall and my guitars. That's all a man really needs.) 🐕🦺🔊🎸
Wow, I’m really glad to hear you made it through safely. That means a lot to me, and I’m humbled that my video could bring some inspiration during such a tough time. Stay safe and wishing you all the best!
@@00_MyBestAdvice_00 that north eye wall was a freakin rocker. I could handle the 1st half. Walking in the eye was cool. Back half of the storm....not so much fun.😳
One thing people never really get about Eddie is he's one of the few guitar shredders that actually wrote chart topping amazing songs his whole career. Players like Vai, Satch, Yngwie, etc. all appeal to guitarists and musicians but don't attract the general listening audience the way EVH did...
One thing I have noticed learning this stuff, is that EVH wouldn't just pick the first note on each string for those fast runs, but would sometimes pick the first and last note on a string, only hit the first on the next and maybe all 3 notes on the next string. Those nuances are hard to hear but are sprinkled all over his solos
Eddie is king! 👑 I appreciate this video and all of your insight. I'd love to see more Nuno and maybe some George Lynch. So much to uncover and learn from. I love this style of teaching too
@fulltimeguitar I'm going to date myself. I was sitting in the senior parking lot at High School in my band mates car when Eruption can on the Radio for the first time. Our jaws hit the floor. I've been a huge fan ever since...
Its worth remembering that Eddie and Alex played wit their father in a jazz band for a long time before doing rock music - Its why I think Steve Vai was the very natural choice for Dave Lee Roth when he left Van Halen
Yeah i am in Eb standard (all strings down half a step) some text says this but i probably should have said so verbally too in the video haha. and thanks!! :D
This was a great video man. Some beautiful exercises put together. I really struggle getting beautiful pinch harmonics on the lower E and A string as I would on the G,B and High E. What's the "secret"? They just don't "pinch, sounds very muted.
thanks so much! in theory harmonics are the same on those lower strings.. just make sure your strings arent too old, humbuckers and tone controls set for lots of trebel, plently of distortion. those lowers ones on the low strings tend to sound better with vibrato. and you could use a wha pedal for extra juice, zakk wylde style :D
oh yeah you are right, the shape is the same but im playing 2 frets higher... i transposed that lick from jump for the exercises. It'll line up in exercise 2 for sure. i forgot and used the tab from the exercise but here i think im playing in the key of the jump solo. i hope it doesnt throw too many people off lol
in terms of upbringing and circumstances, we cant go back in time and change those for ourselves. we can only do the best we can starting from now. so i say, if we can learn one small thing from Eddie today, lets do it :)
@@sometingwongwai9679 i think most players copy little bits and pieces from they're favourite players. then when they fail to sound like who they copy thats where they bring their own influence. just IMO anyways :)
Huh? You do realize there are a ton of people, and just about anyone that practices enough, that can play some great Van Halen? Either you are a novice, or do not play at all. That was a very strange comment.

yeah a lot of those interviews i used clips from, Vai, Satch and JP all talk about his awesome rythm playing too :D
@@fulltimeguitar He had that swing thing down so seamlessly..
💯
Thank you! You did such a great job on this. That compilation of licks solo you did at the end was fantastic!
thanks so much :D

Excellent tutorial format for advanced guitar - very impressive
Thankyou! :D
So cool ! Thankyou for sharing
thankyou! :D
Amazing lesson, so clearly explained and well presented. You got yourself a new subscriber.
Thanks so much! :D
Great breakdown of Eddie's fancy licks and his utilization of rhythmic displacement! Subscribed! Cheers and rock on 🍺🍺🫡😃!
Thankyou :D
Very well done!
Thankyou :)
Learned as much here, as from a pile of other vids.
Had to Sub!!!✨✅🍀👍👍
And, I am not even a part time guitarist..

I have that same Charvel! Its awesome!!
It is indeed! i have the same one in matte black with a fixed bridge too :D
Great looking guitar. What model is that?
its a Charvel DK24, i record through my fractal audio AX8 which emulates a Bogner Shiver :)
@@fulltimeguitar Nice and thx!

right on
Thanks bro :)
Great playing and an awesome tone. Any videos on the gear you use?
i try to focus on technique but ask me anything here in the comments about my gear :D maybe i'll make a rig run down video if enough people ask :D
The way I hear it, is that Eddie van Halen plays the 5-note pattern as a triplet followed by a 2-note shuffle, and not as 5 evenly spaced notes :)
best leas lessons explained.
Thanks :)
Love the video , great job it explains eddies mind-blowing riffs slowed down Is this in half step down or standard tuning
Yeah i am in Eb standard (all strings down half a step) some text says this but i probably should have said so verbally too in the video haha. and thanks!! :D
Jump last note =Egyptian note. Both EVH and Mick Mars used the Egyptian tone in 1983. Looks that Kill and much of EVH on 1984.
What Charvel model is that guitar? looks amazing!
Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HSH MH. thanks :D

Great tone! Are you using a noise gate?
im not, but in some places while editng the video i mute the string noise if im talking, so its gunna sound like a gate haha. and thanks!
Curious, but what is your opinion on Jake E Lee?
After last week, "A Shot In The Dark" takes on new meaning. :(
Yawp, mindblowing !! Amp destroyers and brain cells too , cause simple sick !! Awesome job 🥰👏🤘🎼🙏🍀🎼🎸❤️🔥 ps : rest easy Ed 🫂🕊♾️
exelent, you only forget the volume notes and chords style of Eddie V H he uses the volumen to introduce chords or notes
wow
Thanks :)

Eddie said he totally messed up the beginning of eruption and never bothered to fix it . I wish I could mess up that bad .
thats nuts. yeah sounds like we need to be working on our mess ups haha
Ah, EVH... There were never any wrong notes in any key for him. He used all 9 notes!
Thats right :D
Marty Friedman lessons please!
lets see :D
Long skinny fingers helps.
haha. on a serious note though, we can find guitars with slighty smaller fret spacing as needed :D
refreshing honesty. stealing his licks 😮
i think the way you outlined practice is more valuble then the licks 👍
Thanks! I got a video focusing specifically on practice methods incoming soon :D
Kent carlevi …… really 😂
Ps lucky bastard had a upbringing of musicians around him helps and that is why nobody can touch him in technique so why bother ?

VH is the last person you want to try copy.
